I can't believe that for once since maybe 2005, that the chart actually looks ACCURATE! :o

Yeah I completely agree!

Lots of new entries and finally songs that ARE big everywhere in Europe!

Wow, great chart, hope it's for real! And I hope it is on MTV Hits on Monday!

By the way, this is maybe not the place to ask, but does anyone know if there is a European Top 40 radioshow? I remember listening to one on a local UK station in the mid 90s...

Hello!

I would like to ask the chart of 11/04/2009. Is there a chart with this date? Just because I always read this topic and it occured that there is a new chart with new - and re-entries. But this chart is very similar to the former Billboard European chart without any unknown artist. Let's see:

Billboard European Top 100 Singles №15/09.04.2009

1. ( 1 ) Lady GaGa - Poker Face

2. ( 2 ) Flo Rida - Right Round

3. ( 3 ) Enrique Iglesias & Ciara - Takin' Back My Love

4. ( 7 ) Noisettes - Don't Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go)

5. ( 20 ) A R Rahman & The Pussycat Dolls - Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)

6. ( 8 ) Milow - Ayo Technology

7. ( 4 ) Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You

8. ( 13 ) Metro Station - Shake It

9. ( 6 ) Lady GaGa Feat. Colby O'Donis - Just Dance

10. ( 9 ) Silbermond - Irgendwas Bleibt

11. ( 10 ) James Morrison & Nelly Furtado - Broken Strings

12. ( 12 ) Kid Cudi - Day N Night

13. ( 24 ) Lily Allen - The Fear

14. ( 26 ) Helmut Fritz - Ca M'Enerve

15. ( 15 ) Razorlight - Wire To Wire

16. ( 16 ) Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody

17. ( 11 ) Beyonce - Halo

18. ( 5 ) Pep's - Liberta

19. ( 19 ) Mando Diao - Dance With Somebody

20. ( 42 ) Katy Perry - Thinking Of You

They seem to have stripped out the foreign language songs. But the thing is, apart from this, it looks like a genuine European chart (no John Legend, or obscure Jason Mraz songs...) I will check to see if this is on MTV Hits on Monday :)

Actually I agree with Bobiloko that the Euro Top 20 is much better. I do not like both those new charts at all regardless of there accuracy in reflecting the individual charts from countries in Europe.

The difference between those charts and Euro Top 20 is that Euro Top 20 graded the songs relative to themselves and not in comparison with other songs. So imagine that "Poker Face" and "Right Round" were really bad songs and weren´t doing well in those countries but were only topping the individual charts because they were the "best" at this moment in time so Euro Top 20 would correct this by giving them a position that they actually diserve and then it would look like the chart is inaccurate when infact if those songs were released at a time when the competition was tighter the songs wouldn`t perhaps be performing as well. Songs in the past have been known to peak at number 2 or 3 etc. for several weeks without reaching higher what so ever if they didn`t "qualify" for it. This is why I think Euro Top 20 is better afterall when you sum up a year by arranging all the number 1´s and the well preformed number 2`s in order you still get what the consensus considers to be the greatest hits of that year.

Is that the real chart? Surely some of those new additions were from previous charts that werent updated until now. Looks very messy, but I hope its back for good
I always figured that they based the European Top 20 on video play on MTV Europe, it would explain the recent American dominance. Controversial maybe, but as long as it goes back to a full top 20, I kind of prefer it this way...

LOL MTV barely plays music nowadays, so number 1 should be something like "Pimp My Ride" or "Made" or "Punk'd" because these shows are broadcasted every day on MTV

Hmm... This chart on MTV Germany seems like a really strange mix between the Eurochart and some random elements (I don't think the new Lady GaGa single has had success across Europe so far)... I think it will be important to watch European Top 20 on Saturday on MTV Europe to see what they broadcast then. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do it... tsetsi, what about you?

By the way, I was thinking about something. Like Xylem said, there have been many songs that have been played a lot on MTV Europe, yet they didn't even enter European Top 20; on the other hand, some songs weren't played at all on MTV Europe, yet they reached very high positions in European Top 20 (for example, "Anyone Of Us" by Gareth Gates and "Chihuahua" by DJ Bobo). The way the chart has been made during all these years is a mystery.

However, I can't believe one and the same person has been making the chart during these more than 20 years. Yet, if we assume that the chart-makers have changed from time to time, that didn't show in the chart itself - in the period 1991-2009 no edition looks completely different from the previous one. That's why I think that the methodology of the chart has remained the same the whole time, regardless of the current person "in charge" of European Top 20.

If that's true, it's much stranger that they would switch to the Eurochart since it looks like the methodology remains there, even if the person who has last been making the chart has "resigned"...

This is the chart of last week:

1. Lady Gaga - Poker face

2. Kelly Clarkson - My life would suck without you

3. James Morrison & nelly F.

4. Mando Diao

5.

6. Lily Allen - The fear

7. Alesha Dixon - The boy does nothing

8. Milow

9. Kings Of Leon

10. Lady Gaga feat. Colby O' Donis

11.

12. Enrique Iglesias feat. Ciara

13. Kid Cudi vs. Crookers

14. Katy Perry - Hot n cold

15. Depeche Mode

16. Ciara feat. Justin

17.

18.

19.

20.

I think that this the chart with the date 20/04/2009 becuase when the chart on mtv. de was always the chart of the next week - in this case - 27/04

In my opinion for example Flo-Rida was the 5., T.I. feat. Justin was the 11. beacuse these are relatively older songs.

To sum up, i hope we get a real chart for the week 16, and the week 17 also, because...I am nervous. :)

bad news! European Top20 will now be reduced to a top10 like the rest of the MTV Europe charts. It was an international decision...
Very weird that the Italy chart has two French songs... MTV really ought to make some statement about this, but it will probably not happen :(
