Posted June 21, 200619 yr It's now official. :yahoo: Following the recent appointment of Tavistock Wood as Will Young's acting representative, Will has landed another impressive acting role and will be treading the boards at Manchester's leading theatre company, The Royal Exchange Theatre in a brand new production of the classic, darkly humoured and biting Noel Coward play The Vortex, directed by Jo Combes. Following Will's much acclaimed debut on the screen in Stephen Frears' Mrs Henderson Presents, Will's next challenge will be on the stage for a 13-week run playing the lead role of Nicky. Will is no stranger to live stage performance, however this new and exciting acting role is something totally different. Having always had a love for the theatre this seemed a natural step to take and he was keen to get involved in a small, independent production playing one of Noel Coward's greatest roles. Will says: 'I'm really excited to be involved in this project. I'm sure it will be a fairly daunting experience initially but I want to be able to grow and learn more in this field so I¹ll continue to enjoy what I do and also offer something new to my fans.' The Vortex will open at Manchester's Royal Exchange in December which will follow on from his Keep On Live tour which kicks off in Cardiff on September 12th and runs until October 2nd.
June 21, 200619 yr Well done William :yahoo: Anyone know who he's playing? Off to Google Vortex
June 21, 200619 yr Author Well done William :yahoo: Anyone know who he's playing? Off to Google Vortex  He has the lead role of Nicky. :cheer:
June 21, 200619 yr I wish I could go but Manchester is so far away and I doubt it would go down well in my household!
June 22, 200619 yr Having slept on it, I have decided that unless things drastically change (ie my husband comes round to me liking Will) I am not going to go to this play. Having looked at the plan of the theatre, I feel that I would be a bit claustrophobic so close to the stage in a venue like this. Going all the way up to Manchester would cost an arm and a leg and for me that really isn't viable. However, I do hope all of you really enjoy it and I expect lots and lots of reports. It is a real feather in his cap for Will and I am delighted that he has got this role. I think the play sounds interesting but a bit dark for my liking. I wonder if they decided to put the play on and then auditioned Will for the role or whether Will was chosen to play something and the play was chosen afterwards.
June 22, 200619 yr Author Well happy booked my ticket. :yahoo: February is certainly going to be a brightrer month in 2007. :D
June 22, 200619 yr Just managed to get through - booked for 4pm matinee on Saturday 20th. Just hope the weather's ok. They've extended the run to the 10th March and put out a special 'hotline' number for the Vortex :D May book again - it's my husband's birthday on the 9th March. Really looking forward to this. Quote: Quote from Manchester Evening News POP star Will Young is to appear in a play at a top Manchester theatre. The 27-year-old singer has landed the lead role in the Royal Exchange's 13-week run of new production of The Vortex, a darkly comic Noel Coward play about a debauched musician. The role comes hot on the heels of Will's acting debut in Mrs Henderson Presents, where he played a gay bandleader alongside Dame Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins. Daunting Will said: "I'm really excited to be involved in this project. I'm sure it will be a fairly daunting experience, initially, but I want to be able to grow and learn more in this field, so I'll continue to enjoy what I do and also offer something new to my fans." Will shot to fame after winning TV's Pop Idol and the former public schoolboy has developed into a critically acclaimed artist, enjoying British number ones. In The Vortex, he will bring to life "divinely selfish Nicky", a young man engaged to be married who returns from a debauched year in Paris with a drug habit and a question mark hanging over his sexuality.
