eurovision is still very big in ireland which shows there is great interest for it still in ireland and i must admit rte have advertised the eurovision and the semi finals very well i have seen loads of adds for the show on tv....i know we havnt a hope n hell of winning but id love for us to qualify this year as it makes the final far more exciting when your country is in the final i enjoy the voting far more when we are in
There's been no advertising for the semis at all here. The final yes, but not the semis, BBC3 basically just farted it out last night  Then again, we're not in it...
My mate today told me that Russia could only win this year because people will be happy to avoid the opportunity to host the contest due to the economical crisis. I don't want it :(
I don't think many people will think that way - not televoters at least. Anyway, they could refuse to host the contest if they won again, but Mamo is not a deserving song :(
Completely! Israel were robbed. No eurovision there next year! :drama:

If you say Ireland is not able to host because of money... then what about Malta? Lot's of debts!! There is a rumor that in 1998 Chiara came third because the last country didn't vote for her..... Malta is financially bad and therefore they made an agreement not to win...

We will still host the ESC if we won, but we do not have a big space to host an ESC, so therefore it would be a smaller stage than this year!

If Ireland where to withdraw when they won the most contests , that would be a great scandal for the ESC

Ireland won't withdraw. Eurovision is ratings gold for RTÉ (Ratings here would plummet if we weren't in it!). We've held 7 contests in very bad economic times, so I'm sure we could find the money to host another one. But I doubt we'd ever have to host any time soon because we keep sending bottom-of-the-barrel songs. :P

I think Belgium could throw in the towel. They have tried to send something new every year since the semi's were introduced and have failed every single time (except 2004 when they were automatically qualified). Why Kate Ryan didn't qualify is beyond me. Xandee should have come Top 10 at least, and Ishtar should have reached the final last year. Belgium have sent pop-dance (2004), a ballad (2005), uptempo euro-pop (2006), groovy dated awfulness (2007), imaginary folk (2008), and rockabilly (2009) and have had no success. They should try sending Death Metal and see how they do. If they fail next year, then I think it's the end of the road for them. :(

On a similar angle here, I think Switzerland could pull out. Austria is gone, and Italy went a long time ago. It seems like nothing they do is going to be good enough for them to qualify. Andorra may also pull out over the lack of support they got from Spain...

on saturday there will be a pro gay demonstration in moscow right before the show.

these type of demonstrations usually arent allowed and violence has been used in the past to stop the protesters.

one of the the dutch contestants (gordon, the blond guy) has now stated that if Holland will reach the final and the

demonstration is being stopped in a violent way by the police that Holland will withdraw from the event.

if Holland doesnt make it into the finals he and maybe the other 2 will participate in the demonstration that is asking

for equeal rights for gays in Russia.

the possible withdrawel is being supported by the dutch broadcast channel and our minister of foreign affairs.

Dont know if other countries will follow but this surely will create a stir. We'll see.

Equal Rights for all !!

No, just no. I mean i'm not against it at all, but it won't work and Netherlands will just have to withdraw. It's the f***ingly ridiculous nature of our homophobic country. Gays will NEVER 'have rights' here, at least while i'm in this world.

:(

In a USSR survey from 1989, asked what to do with homosexuals, Soviet citizens replied:

33% shoot them

30% imprison them

30% subject them to forced medical treatment

6% leave them alone / offer assistance

Hmmm, I imagine Belgium, Netherlands and Switzerland will probably be there or thereabouts...

if holland withdraws from the finals (if they make it) we will be disqualified for the next 3 years.

we'll see tonight if they make it or not.

I could see that, but to be honest, Shine was completely out of step with EVERYTHING that people vote for in Eurovision...
Maybe big 4 will get angry ,if they change the rules so the top 5 goes directly to final next year, and stop competing. Hope not :) :) :)
The Czech Republic need to stop sending such dire songs... I suppose 'Have Some Fun' wasn't that bad when it first appeared, but they wrecked it for the Eurovision performance. Belgium and the Netherlands are most likely to pull out next I suppose, though the Dutch have confirmed they are participating in 2010.
