Posted May 14, 200916 yr Some news gleaned from recent press conferences in Moscow... # The juries did choose one of the finalist on Tuesday night (i.e one of the ten songs that qualified was not in the Top 10 in the televote). There are two rumours floating around here, one is that Israel got the jury pick, the other that Sweden got it. Neither would surprise me. # Next year's contest will be on 18th, 20th and 22nd May, but as has been pointed out, that is the same night as the Champions League final which switches to a Saturday next year. It would be unusual to have both big events on the same date. # It looks like The Big 4 will be with us for another year as the reference group seem to want the status quo and several cash strapped broadcasters are happy to have the financial input from France, Germany, Spain & U.K. # The was a lot of nonsense about Filip Kirkorov (who chairs the Russian jury this year) having dinner with Alexander Rybak and whether this would help Norway. # The stage is using 30% of current global stage LED lighting. # There are technical issues with some props in semi two (the Azerbaijan-Greece-Lithuania section is causing delays in set-up and Ukraine is causing all sorts of problems). # There are 2,300 people accredited this year, the biggest ever. # There will be no "Winner's Tour" due to the expense involved. # The EBU is still working on trying to get Italy back in the contest, and as well as the participants, Australia, New Zealand, Austria and Kosovo are showing the event. # There was a hint that the final might include a live link-up with the cosmonauts currently in space. # It was confirmed that the budget for this year is a record breaking €30 million with the EBU contributing around €3.5 m and it is felt that next year's show will use a considerably smaller budget, no matter who wins.
May 14, 200916 yr Cool news, thanks. Glad the Big 4 will stay for now, but I think if Italy come back, they would want it to be Big 5. As for having EUrovision and the Champions League final on the same night, I can't see the problem, how much fan crossover can there be? I do think Kirkorov will do what he can to smooth the path for Alexander... but I can't see them spending this much money on the contest AND fixing the result :kink:
May 14, 200916 yr Is it just me, but is the host presenters really bad, or is it just me? :( EDIT: Is it just me but did I say "Is it just me" 1 time too much? :P Edited May 14, 200916 yr by Jerick
May 14, 200916 yr They are Xylem, hopefully Alsou and Ivan Urgant will do much better... Erm, yes Jerick :kink: They're $h!t. I didn't understand a word on Monday, their french sucked, there is no chemistry, they're the gruesomest twosome since Doctor Death and the Tooth Fairy.

May 14, 200916 yr ROFL! Although i don't know French (yet) i only could distinguish some unknown chinese-korean-portugese random words all mixed with the hideous russian accent. 'F' to you, Vodyanova and Malakhov!
May 14, 200916 yr Oh f*** at Champions League coinciding with Eurovision next year. That'll make it difficult to watch...
May 14, 200916 yr Oh f*** at Champions League coinciding with Eurovision next year. That'll make it difficult to watch... I can see them moving Eurovision TBH. Worst thing is - it's in Madrid. What the hell will they do if Soraya wins? :)
May 14, 200916 yr Oh my, if Soraya wins... Barcelona probably? That would definitely lead to a rescheduling of one of the two methinks...
May 14, 200916 yr I would be very happy for Spain to win, but TBH I can't see it happening. Low top 10 I think.
May 14, 200916 yr AKOE are going RIGHT down in my estimations - they predict last place for her, citing Spain 2007! That and predicting Latvia (as well as Belarus and Macedonia) as guaranteed qualifiers :/
May 14, 200916 yr As for having EUrovision and the Champions League final on the same night, I can't see the problem, how much fan crossover can there be? Well I'm one of them for starters. That would be madness to host Eurovision on the same evening as the ECL Final. So if an English club makes the Final of the ECL, then Eurovision is going to lose out on my viewing..
May 14, 200916 yr Well, each to their own. At least the CL will be on ITV or Sky, not BBC.. AKOE are going RIGHT down in my estimations - they predict last place for her, citing Spain 2007! That and predicting Latvia (as well as Belarus and Macedonia) as guaranteed qualifiers :/ They do tend to make stupidly negative predictions, especially Peter. It's nothing like Spain 2007 either  But I do think Latvia has a good shot! :kink:
