The reason I was for UK #10's spin off is because it was the first spin off and i was literally caught in the moment. I look back now and see that I came 4th with my entry and over 100 points (For the first time) and I don't really care about it TBH! I care more about my number 10 finish with Keri & co. I just think spin off's are quite pointless unless we actually NEED them. (Like if someone's unable to host or something) and for me it's just TOO soon after the last spin off.

It doesn't help the fact that it all of a sudden came out of the blue. No warning that it was going to be after the last contest or ANYTHING. I personally would have preferred it a little more if we knew in advanced that the spin off was happening, then I could have spent time trying to find an entry that I actually wanted to enter.

Everybody was supposed to know we're having a spin-off in the time of Eurovision (don't remember before or after though). -_-
It was said quite some time ago, when the spin off's were first suggested that there would be one around Eurovision time to help keep the calendar in check
I have to say I'd far rather listen to songs I don't know than ones I do when it comes to BJSC. I gave my 12 to 'Armageddon' this month, but it's probably my 3rd favourite song from the contest behind 'Zero' (which I gave 1 point) and 'Ghosts' (3 points). I just really don't see what I achieve if I give my 12 to a song which I've known and loved for over two months before the contest started and has spent the last 6 weeks or so in my Personal Chart top 3, was recently a top 75 UK hit and by an act who'd had a top half finish in the previous contest.

I'd much rather show my appreciation and give my 12 to someone who's introduced an unknown as that's what I love about the contest most. If it was a song I already knew but was by a very unknown artist then I'd still give it big points (I gave 'Jungle Drum' an 8 in XV) but that didn't apply to 'Zero' at all really.

I didn't know Jungle Drum was fairly well known by some people here at the time...still it's not bad going when the most well known artist that I've used in the past year is Emiliana Torrini! I agree with you too, some songs just crash out of points contention...Summer Sunshine by The Corrs is (shockingly :heehee:) one of my favourite songs of all time but I gave it nothing because I felt other songs deserved points more, same goes for a few of the other entries which were penalised for unorigianlity...nothing huge, they just go to the bottom of my ranking group, so if it's a 9/10 song, I will prioritise all other 9/10 songs first for points

that sums it up perfectly really  what did I achieve by sending Robyn's Be Mine to the BJSC and coming 6th? not a lot really

That's why we need a Foreign Languages Spin-off :kink:

But that's the thing, the calendar is in check. XVI was held in the same month as VI was so there was nothing out of order. The last spin-off helped sort that out. This one isn't really needed at all. I suppose a plus point for it is that it's held more or less in line with school exams so there aren't too many people who have to sit out of XVII.

I dont think i'll enter the spin-off tbh. For the simple reason that there isnt a song out there, i like enough to send and to really give a $h!t about how well it does.

But that's the point. Spin-offs were meant to be the sort of thing people wouldn't send to the normal contest. I think Mark already said this, but I think this spin-off is only going to lessen the chances of a great foreign song doing extremely well.

The songs that finish in the top 10 of this contest, at least, would have probably qualified for the normal contest so it's a bit of a hollow victory. You might pick the winning track for this spin-off, but I'm sure you'd rather finish 5th or 6th with it in the normal contest where it actually 'counts' and I reckon that would have been possible for whatever wins this. (it would be interesting to enter whatever wins this in the next contest as a decoy and see how it does actually)

Foreign entries aren't that snubbed, whereas a top 10 hit usually creates a big fuss for being 'cheap'. Perhaps #10s wasn't such an inspired theme, but we kinda need to stick to themes that don't take away possible entries to the normal contest. (I was suggesting remixes because people very rarely send them)

Pretty much agree with everything Aaron's saying..

I mean, look at Marie Mai and 'Emme-Moi' which finished top 10 in the main BJSC. I'm sure whoever sent that feels much prouder of THAT than if they'd sent it to this and won. Like Aaron says, it takes potential away from the main BJSC..

The peak position for a non english track in BJSC is 6th, and 3 tracks have finished there.
And is that really a BAD thing?

i reckon we should vote on it.

Well obviously that can't happen now - but I reckon ther should have been a vote after the disaster that was the last one if we wanted them to continue in future..

I've said it before, but i'll say it again just so we are all clear.

This spin off is still happening

I didn't debate that it was? LOL

people are always so quick to blame the mods :heehee:

I remember those days :drama:

I would have voted 'no' quite possibly though, although I did enjoy the Rejects competition and the Best Of (for selfish reasons :kink:)

Exactly, perhaps people will care about this spin-off slightly more as people are less likely to know the songs but it's still just a spin-off and no one makes a big deal over it anyway. You'd be better off trying really hard to find a good foreign song and sending it to the main contest. I'm sure you'll feel better finishing top 10 against all the normal English female pop than winning when you've got all the English entries excluded.

Girls Aloud have already been pointed out, but so what? That's a good thing for foreign songs.

I don't get why people don't understand that finishing top 10 in a contest where at least 80% of the participants use English as their first language is a big achievement in itself. It means you've managed to crack what is a fairly difficult crowd.
