I think she's doing the Hampton Court Festival tomorrow (would have loved to have gone but it was out of my price range) and she's said she's doing four songs from the album! I hope someone manages to get them recorded. One of them is called "In Your Shoes" and apparently it's a BIG one:

i will be back!! rehearsing a new song "in your shoes by meyself and @DjMunro and it sounds AWESOME!! xxxx
Then DJ Munro said:

Ah, @Beverleyknight you've let that one out the bag! Bet it sounds CRAZY live. Damn, the world just ain't ready for this!!

and when I said it sounded exicting he said to me:

@aaronfuller get your dancin' shoes on!

Can't wait now, glad she's got something like this on the album.

So at the Hampton Court Festival Bev played four songs from the new album.

"Every Step", "In Your Shoes", "Soul Survivor" AND the new single, "Beautiful Night". :w00t:

Apparently they got a got a good response amd her James recorded them. Sooo we might get to hear the single real soon! :w00t:

More people should record Bev at gigs, hardly any one ever does so we never get any vids on youtube. Only the odd 2 minute mobile phone clip on youtube.

I know! :( I can't imagine her being the sort to be strict about people recording footage either.

Wasn't there something about a tour DVD on her website a while ago? Hopefully that will surface, at least.

Oh no, to the contrary. When she did her gig at Selfridges she actually encouraged people to record it. The rules are set out by the venue, not the artist, unfortunately. Say for instance she performs at the Apollo, the Apollo will have some sort of deal to let in the press and photographers to take pictures and in return for a cut of the money, the press stipulate that no one else should be allowed to take photographs. Then when it comes to recording a video, you have all the copyright issues to deal with by the greedy music labels..

Quite a few of Beverley's tour dates have been 'professionally' recorded but for some odd reason, her record label never decided to release any. I once spoke to a guy who was commissioned by EMI to professionally film her 2002 Who I Am gig and he said that EMI were 'f*cking useless' .. Her Royal Albert Hall gig was professionally recorded too and was set for release but again, that never came to fruition. I just hate EMI, she endured 10 years of neglect and ill-decisions from those greedy w****rs .. I reckon the Royal Albert Live DVD would have finished off that era perfectly too. You have the specifically live organic album and the live DVD would have paired nicely with it ...

Yeah, that's what I thought, which is why it seems a shame onl "Every Step" seems to have surfaced from that appearance. Maybe people just don't get round to uploading it.

Ugh! I know I'd certainly pay for some sort of compilation DVD of all her tours, but I'm sure this footage will rot as it's owned by EMI? Still, on the day she posted the video blog about this album this was posted: "We know loads of you have been waiting ages for a live DVD. We're not quite there yet but it'll happen soon" so I'm sure the Royal Albert Hall one will come along...eventually. Perhaps ask her on Twitter? or submit a question to the Buzzjack Q&A about it?

Beverley's 'Auntie' Chaka Khan

Beverley Knight is so friendly with soul legend Chaka Khan these days that she refers to her as 'Auntie CK'.

The two singers have a single coming out later this year, and Beverley said: "It's Miss Chaka Khan and I - two big voices on a big song.

"I've known her a number of years now but when I first met her I was done in, now I'm like 'Auntie CK'."

Describing the song, she said: "It's a totally new song written by Guy Chambers so it's full on."

Beverley has already kicked off festival season by playing gigs at Hampton Court and the Isle of Wight, and says a highlight for her was watching Lemar at Hampton Court.

She gushed: "He did a cover of Sex On Fire by Kings Of Leon, and let me tell you it was fabulous, he was sexy, he was on fire. He always is."

MSN News

It suggests the single features Chaka Khan, but it also says the song is written by Guy Chambers, I thought it was with Amanda Ghost?

100% BEVERLEY KNIGHT!

UK SOUL QUEEN ANNOUNCES 6TH STUDIO ALBUM

Album taster track ‘Every Step’, produced by Jam and Lewis, to be made available as free download

UK soul queen Beverley Knight is shortly to complete work on her 6th studio album, entitled “100%” and due for release on September 14th 2009. The multi award winning star has worked with a fine array of collaborators and producers to complete a body of work that is sure to be widely acknowledged as the best album of her career so far.

The first taster from the album, “Every Step”, co-written and produced by Grammy Award winning legends Jam and Lewis (Janet Jackson, Mary J Blige, Usher) is currently making waves as a promo only cdr, and will be available to download for free for 14 days only, exclusively from her website from July 6th.

Following 2007’s critically acclaimed Music City Soul album, forthcoming set ‘100%’ represents a shift in style. Knight comments: “The last album was like a concept album –it was me revisiting some of my inspirations from the classic Southern Soul era. This new album has an altogether more contemporary feel. I worked with some fantastic people, legends even, and it has inspired me to make what I consider to be some of the best music of my career. It’s certainly the most fun I’ve ever had making a record.”

100% sees triple Mobo award winning Knight working with illustrious former writing partners Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams) and Jimmy Hogarth (Adele, Duffy) as well with multi Grammy Award winning legends Jam and Lewis, Ivor Novello winning song writer Amanda Ghost (Beyonce, Shakira) and acclaimed song writer Jamie Hartman, among others. Producers include hot UK duo The Rural (Gym Class Heroes, Beyonce) and award winning production partnership Bacon & Quarmby (Sugababes, Finlay Quaye). The album also features a duet with soul legend Chaka Khan.

September also sees the launch of Knight’s cosmetics range for dark skin: “K by Beverley Knight”, to be launched exclusively in Selfridges stores and rolled out to John Lewis and other stores afterwards. She comments: “Like the majority of black and dark skinned women I found there wasn’t any range that provided the full range of colours I needed. I was so excited to be offered a chance to work on my own range of products.”

A new album, a cosmetics range and a UK tour in November - details to be announced very soon - 2009 is set to be Beverley Knight’s year – 100%.

“100%” is released on Hurricane Records September 14th 2009.

Well we kinda knew most of this already, but I guess the cosmetic range is what the photo shoot with the other models was for! :o

It's good to hear that she considers the album to have some of the best music of her career. Let's hope what Bev loves is what we love! ^_^

Independently-released album and cosmetics deal in place for singer since departing major label

By Paul Williams

BEVERLEY KNIGHT HAS SECURED SIGNIFICANT financial backing from venture capital investment fund Icebreaker for the launch of her own label and a first independently-issued album since exiting EMI.

Knight, who left the major in 2007 following the release of the album Music City Soul, will return this September with an album on her own Hurricane Records, released to coincide with a range of cosmetics branded with the artist's name debuting in Selfridges.

The new label is a joint venture between Knight and her co-managers of 12 years Alan Edwards and Dave Woolf, supported by what Woolf describes as a "healthy" six-figure sum from Icebreaker, which has backed a wide range of projects by licensing, developing and exploiting intellectual property.

Hurricane, which also served as the name of her touring company, was launched after Knight found herself at a career crossroads, with her EMI deal ending and the option of either seeking out another traditional label deal or venturing out on her own.

"We had an absolutely open mind but having seen people do it themselves we thought it seemed like a sensible option for someone who had a fanbase and a brand," says Woolf.

"More people are choosing this route, which doesn't say it is right for everybody but it is for Beverley who wants to be in control of her career and destiny as much as possible," he adds.

The new set reunites her with some past writing collaborators including James Hogarth and Guy Chambers, while new names on board include Amanda Ghost.

"I knew Amanda was a fan of Beverley so we hooked that up and there are a couple of songs they have done together, including Beautiful Night," says Woolf.

Legendary US writer/producers Jam & Lewis, whom Woolf describes as Knight's musical heroes alongside Prince, are on board for the track Every Step, which has already been played by 1Xtra's Trevor Nelson.

The album features producers The Rural, whose past credits include Beyonce, DJ Munro and CJ Joseph, and Kevin Bacon and Jonathan Quarmby, whose CV includes Finlay Quaye and Sugababes. Chaka Khan, whose last Grammy-winning album was produced by Jam & Lewis, also features.

"She believes she's made the best album of her career and the feedback so far has been extremely positive," says Woolf.

At the same time Knight and her two managers have been able to hand- pick the team to work on the album, which is scheduled for release on September 14 with distribution through Absolute and backed by a UK tour in November.

The team includes A&R consultant Cedric Perrier, who executive produced the album with Knight and Woolf, former Relentless executive Roland Hill as marketing consultant, Lucid handling radio and Non Stop looking after TV.

Knight's own writing for the album is being handled by EMI Music Publishing, who she signed to last autumn.

EMI Publishing A&R vice president Felix Howard, who has previously co- written with Knight, says, "As soon as I heard she had been dropped from Universal Publishing I was straight on the phone to Dave Woolf. She is a brilliant writer. I'm over the moon with the new album. It's the best thing she has ever done."

The album's release will tie in with the arrival of a Knight-backed cosmetics range called K by Beverley Knight. The range, which will debut in Selfridges in September before being rolled out into other outlets, including John Lewis, for the Christmas market, came about through discussions between Knight and the range's consultant Sarah Foxwell.

The range is being funded and distributed by Jigsaw and manufactured by French-based Maesa, which has worked with brands including Ralph Lauren.

So does that mean she got a donation to start up the new record label? All sounds good for her, hope it goes well!

Ahhh how exciting

I know! And, yeah, that article I just posted says the single is by Amanda Ghost, so I doubt "Beautiful Night" has Chaka on it unless they worked with Amanda AND Guy on one song.

Really excited for this.

:o Really? I didn't know you were a fan.

Oh same, she really deserves some success.

I don't think the last album did all that well actually, would have been nice if it made 100k, but it didn't make 60k. :(
