Who can you bring in for less though that is better ?

The 17 goal last season players or ones who would have got 17 if they had been fit were likes of Torres, Lampard, Gerrard, Drogba, Anelka, Adebayor, Rooney, Ronaldo and so on, Bent while not as good a player as the ones I listed matches them for goals so I can't think of someone cheaper who would get more goals for you

Yet he's the worst striker in the Premier League?

Yet he's the worst striker in the Premier League?

Not worst striker by any means that is not what I meant, but I would say he is one of the worst FOOTBALLERS, he is great at getting goals but apart from when he puts the ball in the net it is like playing with 10 men

You can't really compare Crouch and Bent as they're different players. Bent is a poacher, and Crouch is more of a work horse (although he's not). Bent would probably get more goals, but Crouch's play to the team would be more valuable. Wherever he ends up he'll improve the team. Wouldn't suprise me if he went to Spurs because of Harry and all that. And he's probably got the best chance of making the England squad if they get to the World Cup with Spurs. But I could still see him going to Fulham. Looks like Harry Redknapp is just re-creating 2008 Pompey. Whatever next, bringing back free agent Sol Campbell to WHL? hahahaha.

Didn't think this really deserved its own thread, but Sven has been appointed Director of Football at Notts County.

Absolute madness. The wealth of the English leagues are ultimately going to be its downfall imo. It's just getting stupid now.

If he does stay and help them it could be inspired... As a Forest fan I hope Notts can reach the level that we can play them competitively. You can't blame their fans for loving it though, in the last five seasons they've finished 19th, 21st, 13th, 21st and 19th in the bottom division. It's not as if they're going anywhere and most will prefer the journey even if it ends badly.

On playing matters, they've signed Lee Hughes!

Meanwhile, after becoming the Championship's biggest spenders on Monday, Forest have spent a further £1.2m since! Billy Davies.

I think it'll improve them, but i've got this feeling that it's all going to go wrong for them somewhere down the line. Something's not right with it - Sven could apparently have got more money to go elsewhere, yet he chose to be at Notts County? Something doesn't add up.

Alonso had a minor 'knock' apparently and missed Liverpool's pre-season against Thailand. Can't be long before he's gone to Madrid now! :(

Don't understand the appeal of Eriksson ...an article in today's Daily Telegraph had some interesting points, basically he happens to have advantages on his side... led to Benefica to success in Portugal (one of the biggest clubs in the country), IFK Gothenburg (another big club) and Lazio (whose owner showered millions on the club). Why would you appoint someone as director of football in the fourth division of football who has no experience of working this far down in a league.

Whoever fills in Sven's application forms ... could he help me when I do mine??

His CV's pretty impressive. I mean, just look at the mess England went into when he resigned..

Top managers can do well in lower leagues, and then work their way up to the bigger leagues, so I don't see why the opposite can't happen at Notts County. But his role is very ambigious. I mean, what exactly is he going to be doing? He's not going to be managing the team, just buying the players and being used as a tool to make them join I think.

Yey for Spurs and Bent.

We've signed Lorik Cana and word is he's going to be our new captain (To replace Cpt Backpass who's gone to Stoke for about £2.99 million more than he's worth LOL). Watched this video and all I can say is he's the exact opposite of Whitehead. And a psycho. This season should be a laugh then.

Meh, we needed battlers and I suppose that's what we've got. To be fair he gets the ball in most of those clips, it's just a shame he tries to snap the other players in half at the same time.

According to Darren Bent's Twitter (lol) he's up here for a medical tomorrow.

Apparently we're also "close to signing" Paul Baysse who claims he's rejected bids from Blackburn and Wet Spam. Hmm...

Edit: BBC are reporting it now, looks like something's happening then:

Sunderland have begun negotiations with Tottenham about bringing striker Darren Bent to the Stadium of Light.

The 25-year-old is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane following the signing of Peter Crouch for about £10m from Portsmouth.

Tottenham signed Bent for a club record fee of £16.5m from Charlton in June 2007 and will be looking to recoup as much of their outlay as possible.

The England forward scored 17 goals in all competitions for Spurs last season.

Bent did not travel to China, where Spurs are playing in the Barclays Asia Trophy, in order to negotiate a move away from White Hart Lane.

New Sunderland manager Steve Bruce looks set to exceed the club record of £9m that the Black Cats paid for goalkeeper Craig Gordon two years ago.

Bruce is keen to bolster his forward line having signed 21-year-old Fraizer Campbell from Manchester United to complement Kenwyne Jones.

Looks like Arsenal are gonna get around 15mil for Kolo Toure from Man City, which is a great deal for us tbh, he's been great for us over the years but at times looked awful last season.

Wonder how much Sunderland will pay for Bent... probably around £12m i'd have said. Spurs fans must be laughing.

I can't see how Crouch will fit into the Spurs team either. Keane is Spurs' captain non? So it's likely he'll be first choice, then Crouch, Defore and Pav will all rotate around him. Crouch and Defore are the best two strikers you've got, although Defoe's a little c**t.

Unsure about Toure going to Man City too. It's a good deal for Arsenal, but if he goes then Arsenal are looking seriously weak. Arsenal need more senior players, and they've just sold/are about to sell two of their most senior players! I know Wenger will probably use the money to invest in another defender and striker at least (Hangeland and Huunterlar i'd guess) but it's a bit of a gamble to do.

Can't wait until this $h!tty window closes.

Crouch and Defoe had a great partnership at Pompey

According to Spurs ITK's and we probably have the best ITK's of any team we are looking to offload Keane so that particular issue is solved

The attacking side of the team is going to be built around Defoe this season so it makes sense to buy his strike partner at Pompey

Keane will be on the bench for most of next season if he stays

Something like that. £10m or £12m, or somewhere in that region. Either way we're paying over the odds but that's nothing we're not used to. I still think Bent can come here and do a job though I won't be jizzing in my red and white striped underpants like a few of our fans are over the whole thing. Some of them are getting very carried away and talking about Bent scoring 15 to 20 goals this season. Personally i'd be happy if he got into double figures for us, and can see him scoring between 10 and 15. I'm not getting too excited by it all though because it'll only end up in frustration when he doesn't meet the expectations of the fans and the goals dry up *cough*Cissé*cough*

Bent will probably score goals, but only if the chances are made for him. I remember he had a very prolific season at Charlton, but he's vastly overrated imo. I don't think his overall play is much good. Yes he probably scores some goals but he's been very poor at Spurs overall. I can see him easily getting into double figures next season. He's better than Cisse. Cisse is just all pace and no end product.

Arbeloa going to Madrid. :( :@

It seems Zamora has decided not to come to grand old Humberside. Must of been that chance to partner Daryl Murphy upfront not happening change his mind. We have now made zero signings. Scunthorpe derby's here we come.
