July 13, 200916 yr Author I said they would win the league if they signed Eto'o which I think would be the case but that signing is looking less likely now but certainly I see definitely CL qualification for them this season Tevez is confirmed now Well I think they'll probably challange for 4th spot, especially since Arsenal will be losing their top striker. Wenger needs to invest in a couple of experienced buys if he's to challange at all for the title... Can't believe Tevez has gone to Man City either...! Just like Michael Owen, such a tool.

I agree with that especially as Fabregas is being linked to a move back to Spain for £40m, that happens then can' see Scum making Top 5 even though I think Arshavin will be the leading scorer in the Premiership next season

But their squad is largely inexperienced, especially in comparison to Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea. I can't see Fabregas moving tbh. Barcelona don't need him... this season at least. And if Real Madrid are not going to fork out £35m for Alonso, then I doubt they'd fork out £40m for Fabregas. Although this is Real Madrid.

Torres will start off bookies fav most likely, and good reason, his average is a goal every other game! I think Torres, Dropba and Rooney will be the top 3.

Forgot about Torres :o Rooney I can't see tbh, he wll be bound to have a few injuries or suspensions, Drogba again depends if he stays fit if he does he willl be up there for sure Are we going to have a premiership predictions thread for this season ?

Yeah I (or someone else) will create one, as they're good to look back at at the end of the season and see what we all predicted. But it's better to do it closer to the season starting, as there'll still be hundreds of transfers yet between the next month. But it is good to know that in roughly a month the new season will be starting.
July 13, 200916 yr Bruce has made his second signing: Steve Bruce has completed his second signing as Sunderland boss by drafting in centre-back Paulo Da Silva. The 29-year-old, who captains the Paraguayan national team, joins the Black Cats from Mexican outfit Toluca, where he also served as skipper. He has signed a three-year deal. Capped over 50 times by his country, Da Silva previously enjoyed spells in Italy with Perugia and Venezia and is predominantly deployed on the right side of central defence. Stadium of Light supremo Steve Bruce said: "I'm delighted to have signed a player of Paulo's experience. "He is captain of his country and has played at the highest level in South America so will bring leadership qualities to our side." Keep checking SAFC.com later today for more exclusive reaction from Bruce - as well as a first chat with new boy Da Silva.Pleased with this tbh. He's 29 so he's arguably at his peak, plus he's the captain of his country and he can chip in with goals on occassion. Will benefit Anton playing alongside him as well. He's still better than Zamora. I really can't believe Phil Brown is so openly chasing someone who played 35 Premiership games last season, in a team that qualified for Europe, and scored TWICE! He really is a complete fool. I suppose at least he's not going to be beaten to him by someone else, who the f*** would want him?! I don't think even I'd swap him for any of our 5 strikers! Debateable. VERY debateable. Murphy made 27 appearances last season and didn't score in any of them. Granted, he was played out on the left wing more often than not but tbh he's arguably better there than he is up front. He's lazy, clueless and i'm still LOLing at the thought Hull are prepared to pay anything more than a fiver and a packet of Haribo starmix for him. Oh, and don't let the goal he scored against Wigan fool you. It was a complete and utter fluke, he's never came close to repeating the feat since. He was probably trying to pass.
July 14, 200916 yr Author Manchester City have completed the signing of ex-Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez for a fee believed to be £25.5m and on a five-year deal. The Argentine, 25, left Old Trafford last month after rejecting their offer of turning his loan spell with them into a permanent switch. Tevez said: "City came with a very good proposal and ambition to become one of the biggest clubs in the world. "It was an easy decision and I am happy to be here." Tevez was mobbed by joyous City fans on his arrival at Eastlands. "It's terrific news," said City boss Mark Hughes. "He's an international of the highest class who possesses all the attributes to help drive us forward. "This is yet another deal that shows the commitment of the owner to make this club the very best it can be." Tevez, who will wear the number 32 shirt at Eastlands, spent a season with West Ham before joining Manchester United on an extended loan deal in 2007. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed he had texted Tevez and attempted to speak to the Argentine about staying at Old Trafford but that he received no response. "I was there for two years and Sir Alex never called or sent any text messages in that time," countered Tevez, who also denied any deal with City had been agreed in January 2009. "The only time he talked to me was after a match against Roma to discuss a situation about going to play for Argentina. "It doesn't seem that this is the way to treat a player in two years at the club. It doesn't seem there is a line of communication." But Tevez added: "I would like to thank David Gill (United chief executive), Alex Ferguson and the club's fan base, but this is a new life for me and I am happy to be at Manchester City. BBC Sport
July 14, 200916 yr Hooray for Manchester City the horrible stuck-up tossers that they are. Based on the signings they've made so far next season should be interesting. How the hell do they intend to keep everyone happy bar playing 2-1-7 every week? Should make for some interesting scorelines, most of them being 22-17 defeats I would presume. We won't be signing Dunne from them until they actually decide to start buying defensive players instead of over-rated strikers.
July 14, 200916 yr Author The strikers they've got so far are $h!t. Tevez is a good player, but Mark Hughes is gonna have a hard time keeping everyone happy. Their defence is still pretty mediocre. Don't think John Terry will go there, although he's using Man City as leverage to get MORE money from Chelsea. God, what a cockface.

If they'd had a better defence they'd have finished above mid-table imo. So the baffling thing to me is instead of buying defenders and trying to strengthen what was the weakest area of the team, they've only bought attacking players??? Like I say, the only way Hughes is going to keep them all happy is if he plays 6 up front every game. Can see it all going horribly wrong for them. Should be a good laugh, then.

It's not only that, they've bought a load of prima donnas who will want to play every week. Tevez moaned last year, Santa Cruz will moan and Robinho as well. And imagine if they get Adebayor. They still lack a leader, and no doubt Mark Hughes is trying to find one, but that's easier said than done. If he goes for a top defender from a big club then no player can justify the move, as it's all about money, which is a shame really. I think Man City have gone about their transfer business wrongly as well. If you want to build a good side from scratch then you need to work from the back upwards. Whereas Man City seem to be working the other way. Hope it all goes tits up for them, but I can't see it just yet. They should be up there come the end of the seaspn for that 4th spot, as Arsenal seem at the moment to be getting weaker than stronger...
July 14, 200916 yr I dunno tbh. I still think unless they sign a couple of strong defensive players they'll fall short again. At the minute i'd have them down to finish anywhere between 6th and 10th, purely because I can see them leaking stupid goals again and I can see it undoing their European ambitions. Guess we'll see come the end of August. The new Prem Predictions thread should be an interesting read anyhow

Other than the obvious 4. Everton look strong, but they still have their weak spots, and i'm not 100% sure but Jakielka is injured for the start of the season? Spurs could do it, but everyones been saying this for the past 3 seasons and they've yet to prove anything. Yes they look good under Harry Redknapp again, but they're far too inconcistant for my liking. They still need another good striker if they're to challange for the Top 4 imo. And Villa i'm not sure about. They ran out of steam last year, and have lost one of their most influential players in Barry - doesn't bode well for them at the moment. Man City are definitely prone to errors, but at the moment I think they're stronger than all the other teams I mentioned. They definitely need another defender, and more importantly a leader, as with so many primma donnas in the team they need someone to keep control. I honestly don't know who they'll go for if they don't sign Terry. They might try their luck abroad, but even then I don't know who they could get. But Mark Hughes does seem very keen on buying players who are proven in the Premier League which is interesting...

Out of all the teams you've listed, i'd fancy Everton to take 5th. Plus Everton usually have terrible starts to the season (Look at last season where they lost at home to Blackburn on the opening day etc). Spurs are inconsistent but they're still a good side and I wouldn't be surprised to see them finish 6th/7th, that sort of area. Unless MON finds a suitable replacement (Not Downing), Villa will struggle to perform as they did last season. Man City won't get Terry, i'm 99.9% sure of it. But yes, I agree they need a leader so that they can sell us Dunne to keep the whole thing together.

Spurs could do really well like I said, but in Bent, Defoe, Pav and Keane I think they're pretty weak. Keane and Defoe are the best two, but I don't think they accomodate each others strengths. But they have some really good players, but could still do with some tweaking. I know Huddlestone gets a lot of stick, but I think he could be a really good player. He just needs to work with a world class manager to sort out his school boy positioning skills. I think Man City could get Terry. I don't know what's going through his head. For all we know he might not like the new manager, and he doesn't feel loved by him int he same way other managers did. He seems to be a player who likes being the manager's pet. And Chelsea have missed out on all their apparent big targets thus far this summer, so who knows. I could see it happening if he doesn't get a pay rise.

I disagree based on the fact Everton are a proper team. One that's been built up properly and functions as a unit. They have a tightly-knit defence and arguably the best midfield outside the big four on top of having strikers that can put away chances. In Moyes they have a manager who can get them performing and performing consistently. City don't have that. They're almost a plastic team, if you will. They've thrown together a team collection of players and expected them to gel and to perform overnight and it just hasn't happened. And until they find a natural leader and a manager that can lead them forward (I'm not at all convinced by Hughes), they'll never go as far as perhaps some of their signings suggest. For football's sake I hope Everton finish ahead of City.
July 14, 200916 yr Why on earth do you want Dunne? He was probably the main reason Man City aren't in Europe this season.... He should've had stick worse than Titus Bramble has ever got last season. I don't think their defence is that bad to be honest. Bridge is a solid left back, Richards and Kompany at centre back protected by De Jong and Barry. I think that's better than all their competition bar maybe Everton. They do need a right back though... I definitely think they should stop buying forward players now. They already had Bellamy, Elano, Petrov, SWP, Ireland and Robinho and now have Santa Cruz and Tevez. If they do get Adebayor as well it'll be ridiculous.
July 14, 200916 yr Author Personally I hope both Everton and Man City fail, but I don't see it happening. @D Unfortunately I see Man City challenging for CL, but I do hope not. Guess we'll see though.
