Posted May 27, 200916 yr The host city as well as the dates for the 55th edition of the Eurorovision Song Contest have now been confirmed by the EBU and NRK although the exact venue remains still to be decided. As announced today by the EBU and host broadcaster NRK, the final dates for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest will be Tuesday 25 May and Thursday 27 May for the semi finals, the Grand Final will take place on Saturday 29 May, 2010 in Oslo. The final decision on the venue is still to be made. According to NRK two options are being considered for the venue of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest: the Telenor Arena in Fornebu which can host up to 23.000 spectators and the Oslo Spektrum, the home of the MGP final, which is much smaller with a capacity of 9.000 spectators. "It is a great honour for NRK to host the Eurovision Song Contest once again. Together with our colleagues of the EBU we are determined to organise this event in line with the highest standards," said Hans-Tore Bjerkaas, Chief Executive of NRK. Norway is already quite experienced in the organisation of the Eurovision Song contest having hosted it twice before in 1986 and 1996, as well as having hosted Junior Eurovision in 2004. "We are looking forward to work with NRK on this enormous production. One year from now, they will have the opportunity to show Europe and the world what they are capable of," said Svante Stockselius, Executive Supervisor of the contest on behalf of the EBU. http://www.esctoday.com/news/read/14137
May 27, 200916 yr Author I actually think I'd rather prefer the 9,000 seater arena  I felt Moscow this year was a little too huge, even though the stage was epic. I think I'd kind of like an in-the-round stage aswell, although that'd be a logisitcal nightmare for setup  Can only book flights until May 16th 2010 so far :( Can anyone clarify the process of getting tickets for the actual ESC event for me? Do you actually get a ticket, or do you have to queue and they let people in on first come, first served basis? I don't wanna go if I can't actually get in
May 27, 200916 yr Usually you book the tickets online, and they sell out in hours! Anyway this is awesome! I'd book flights now, but I can't afford them, and as you said I can't book that late yet :(
May 27, 200916 yr I would go for the bigger venue personally - mostly because I know there will be such a huge scrum for tickets!
May 27, 200916 yr Author Yeah ... for purely selfish reasons I'd go for the bigger venue to make sure I can go  But in terms of practicality, I'd rather have Spektrum.
May 27, 200916 yr Author As I understand it's a little way out of Oslo (but maybe one of the Norwegians here can clarify/correct me), and thus Spektrum is favoured because it's very close to everything: locations for press centers, accomodation, food etc. Not only convenient, but also would earn Oslo 2010 status as a very 'green' contest, as it wouldn't take large amounts of wasteful transportation to the venue for thousands of people. I believe Fornebu is a short bus ride out of Oslo, though.
May 27, 200916 yr Fornebu is in West Oslo, its easy to come there and I guess they will set up more trains, buses etc to ESC, Fornebu is were the airport in Oslo were before. And I don't know if they are going to call it ESC 2010 Bærum if it will be there. it would be cooler if they called it Bærum instead of Oslo. I was in Bærum yesterday :kink:

May 27, 200916 yr The contest itself is on quite late 29th May is one of the latest i can remember myself as its usually around the 13th
May 27, 200916 yr whereabouts is Oslo's airport on that map out of interest Erik!?! Gardermoen is North/North-East-ish. There's a pretty speedy train into Oslo S from that airport. You'll fly into there if you fly with SAS or Norwegian. Norwegian have really cheap flights to Oslo from the UK compared to SAS. Sandefjord (Torp) is south of Oslo and is quite small. Ryanair fly into there. You can get a bus to the Oslo S bus terminal. If I remember rightly, it takes about 1.5 hours, but the scenery is great. Lots of coniferous trees and farms. ^_^ Here's a map: http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd143/razrrokr3/norwayairports.jpg Black is Torp, Blue is Gardermoen. They're approximates, not exact locations, but pretty close. :) The bus from Torp will stop at Drammen and Asker etc. It goes along the highway E18. :) Edited May 27, 200916 yr by Cal

Ryanair have REALLY cheap flights from some places in UK, I think I saw a flight for only 200 one way the other day. I know its from Stansted from London. EDIT: The black dot should be on the other side of Sandefjord, between Sandefjord and Stokke, where MGP semi final 2006 where ^_^ Edited May 27, 200916 yr by Birthday Erik
May 28, 200916 yr There is train from Torp now too, they started up with trains from there last year :) Oh yeah, I forgot about that! I got it from Larvik to Torp station when we were catching our flight to Bremen, Germany. Our flight to Dublin the previous day was cancelled because the radars at Dublin shut down, so no flights could get in. We stayed in Larvik and it was pretty. ^_^
May 28, 200916 yr We stayed in Larvik and it was pretty. ^_^ Larvik? :manson: Sandefjord is so much prettier :(
May 28, 200916 yr Larvik? :manson: Sandefjord is so much prettier :( But we needed somewhere to stay, and Larvik was the only place near us that had rooms available. :heehee:
May 28, 200916 yr I'm planning to get to Norway by water from St. Petersburgh. It's really expensive to have a flight  I'm already EXCITED! :heehee: btw I will be 1 week away from my first exams next year at 29th. :heehee:
