Although a lot of us are doing well these days by picking songs that are confirmed for release in the next few weeks as entries, what seems more interesting to me is the songs that are being picked well in advance of anyone possibly knowing that they could be UK singles, and absolutely excelling in the BJSC finals! Anyone else think that UK record companies should actually look at the songs that do really well in BJSC as looking at our past form, between us we have had a load of BJSC top fives that have much later gone on to be UK hits, many of them surprisingly so :o

Sara Bareilles - Love Song <> Won BJSCIV <> UK #4 hit a few months later

Lily Allen - I Don't Know <> 2nd in BJSCVI <> UK #1 over 6 months later as The Fear

Lady GaGa - Just Dance <> 2nd in BJSCVII <> UK #1 6 months later

Lady GaGa - Paparazzi <> 2nd in BJSCX <> Set to be big very soon

Lenka - The Show <> 1st in BJSCXI <> Set to be huge in a few weeks

Agnes - Release Me <> 1st in BJSCXII <> iTunes #1, set to debut inside the top three this week

and these are just the songs that had more than 3 months between BJSC and UK release...makes you wonder how well the likes of Will You Remember Me Tomorrow, Quicksand, Not A Love Song, Embrace and Breathing Your Love could do with a bit of a promotional push here!?!

In all honesty, I have been thinking that record companies HAVE actually just been on here "by accident" and give the songs they like a decent go :heehee: However the fact 'Will You Remember Me Tomorrow' hasn't been picked up yet has slightly let go of any thought I had  (Yes I know WYRMT is eons years (Well 4 (??) years) old :heehee:

I think WYRMT is only 2 years old actually, but I'm not 100% sure...Untouched by The Veronicas is almost 2 years old and happily heading into the UK top ten :heehee:

I think they really should.

A lot of former entries into the contest still haven't been released and they have some major potential. We seem to be pretty good at predicting the future hits.

and the songs that flop in BJSC generally flop in the UK :o which leads me to believe that Noisettes' Never Forget You and Paloma Faith's Stone Cold Sober aren't about to do much chart wise

there are exceptions of course...If This Is Love by The Saturdays missed the final and went top ten in the UK, and then The Girl & The Robot/Shark In The Water won the contest but aren't exactly shaping up to be huge hits here :(

There are exceptions to every rule, but a lot of our entries could do very well.

Don't Stop Looking has just had it's video filmed :o

Fingers crossed that'll do somethin chart wise.

I think Shark In The Water could be a hit. Well, Top 20. It's getting lots of airplay.

Anyhow, yes, they should. I am dying to see Discotheque get a release date, but it's remaining on Coming Soon for ages.

WYRMT was released in 2006 in Norway but I still can't see it ever being a bit hit over here - It doesn't really sound like any other popular songs and it failed to have much impact when it was released so I think it's more of a BuzzJack hit than a potential single. And that's also why I wouldn't imagine too many record companies would be interested in BJSC as we are a small group of people who have relatively similar tastes in music so a hit here won't nevessarily be a big hit across a much wider range of people.

All the record companies so should come here on a monthly basis to choose next singles for release :heehee:

I think Paloma Faith will do 'The Saturdays' in this contest and become a Top 10 hit in the UK. :o

To be fair we are quite a diverse group of people and there is very much an more diverse set of music tastes than when we started out.

You have the Indie vote, a Pure Pop vote, a cross over vote, a scandipop vote, a dance vote, a RnB vote.

We really are quite a diverse group of people and all our former winners do have that something special.

More then 2 years :o :P

though predominantly Pop, indie is quite minimal as no indie band has ever done that well and RnB also tends to lean nearer the pure pop route if it is ever to do well.

I think VV Brown will do alright, not as well as it deserves too obviously. Paloma Faith will also do alright if you ask me, something similar to If This Is Love.
