That's the point - they don't "really need to" at all! Literature by Byron is certainly not for everybody, particularly those who read as an occasional past time rather than an outright passion. I'm not bashing classic literature by any means but it isn't for many readers and that's fine. The judgemental element of your argument is outrageous - why can't you see that enjoying the Twilight books doesn't make people uneducated or inferior?!

If you guys want to see a decent vampire romance* film, you should watch Nosferatu.

*may not actually have much romance in it.

Maybe not uneducated, but certainly un-imformed..... I happen to believe that one should have as wide a cultural palatte as possible, and appreciate some of the finer things in life, Byron, Stoker and Polidori would be examples of this, as would Poe, Horace Walpole and other classic Gothic/Romantic novellists and poets..... Surely that's a LOT better than just staying in your "comfort zone", and once you'd actually appreciated Byron or Polidori then it would actually make you see things like "Twilight" in a different light, maybe you would think it was "inferior" (which I happen to believe that it is in terms of actual literature).....

What people like you seem to forget Jark is that the likes Byron, Poe, etc, were NOT really considered High Art at the time, they were POPULIST literature, they were actually mainly read by women, as was Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, etc, and therefore considering the Patriarchal times of which we are talking, they would almost certainly be considered "Low Art" consumed by "inferior" females... Bram Stoker's Dracula was considered a "Victorian Pot-boiler" and totally dismissed..... So, sorry, I dont believe it to be "snobbery" to extoll the virtues of the likes of Byron, Shelley, etc, at ALL mate, rather I think YOU are guilty of an inverse snobbery which rather foolishly dismisses classic literature as somehow being irrelevant, even though it's Byron and Polidori who are the genesis of Vampire fiction and introduce Vampires into popular culture..... It's called "having a well rounded reading diet".... Try it some time....

The irony is, if "Twilight" had actually been made into a good film, i'd've had no issues with it..... I'm not a particular fan of JK Rowling, but have certainly enjoyed the Harry Potter films, because they are GOOD FILMS by and large, very cinematic, very well made... Twilight, frankly, came across like an inferior episode of "Buffy" or "Angel"..... It scarcely deserved to be given more attention than trashy fodder like "Blood and Chocolate" or, "The Covenant".... This whole "Twilight" hype is frankly ludicrous..... An unbelievably dull, badly conceived film given undue prominence...... A bit like "Titanic" really......

It's quite tragic actually... Ellen makes the ultimate sacrifice (her own life) in order to stop Orlok....

A good companion to this is "Shadow of the Vampire" which puts across the theory that Max Schreck was indeed an actual Vampire who agrees to do the film when Murnau promises him the blood of the leading lady.. Willem Dafoe plays Shreck/Orlok absolutely superbly, and John Malkovich is equally as good as the obsessed film-maker Murnau.....

Well I have to say I was disappointed by this in the end. Perhaps I shouldn't have expected so much given that the book was by far the worst of the four but it really dragged. One major downer was the score and soundtrack, both of which were really dull and samey, especially compared with Twilight's which created a really perfect mood throughout that film. Also Jacob and Bella really don't have much chemistry, and both Taylor and R-Pattz remain wooden as anything. On the upside the cinematography and writing were mostly decent and the supporting cast were entertaining (Jessica, Mike, Emily, Charlie) but that wasn't really enough. I just hope this turns out to be a blip and Eclipse, well... eclipses it! 6.5/10, mostly for Kristen Stewart.

Ive heard this is quite meh. Although of course all the girls i know are orgasming over it. I think this shall be one for the download.

Tbh, for girls it could just be two hours of a picture of Robert Pattinson on a big screen and they'd think it was the best movie ever.

Got dragged along to this and wasn't overly impressed, I really liked Kristen in it ... but apart from that, meh. Shame coz I thought the first film was fairly decent as well. It's overratedness has definetly affected my liking for it too. :(

^ ^ Bit a of damp squib then, eh guys.....?

And people were telling me that I shouldn't judge this on not liking the first film, and that this was gonna be more "plot driven" and more exciting......

Definitely one for a download by the sounds of it, if I can even be arsed.....

You're so right.... I mean, they prob could have just filmed Pattinson scratching his balls for two hours and the teenie gurlies would've just lapped it up.....

God knows why, I dont think he's really that good looking tbh.... Most actors you can see the attraction (Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, etc...), but, nope, Pattinson, really just cant see it.... I dont even think he's as good looking as David Boreanaz when he was in his prime..... In fact, he kind of looks rather.....unevolved to me.... You know like they probably had to shave his back and feet before actually filming any of the semi-clad scenes.......LOL....

Well I really liked it, it did drag a bit like and was rather depressing (but then the book is aswel) and its my least fave book tbh. still I thought it was great, and I need to see it again without screaming and talking girls to judge better I think.

This got $72 million in one day at the Box Office. Bizarre :s

It currently has a rating of 4.4/10 on IMDB, fail.

The soundtrack was very poor I felt. I did really enjoy the film though. I felt it was a lot stronger than 'Twilight' and knitted everything together really well. But the chemistry between RPatz and Kristen was just absent for so much of the film, it did get a bit tedious in places. I really don't like Taylor at all. I just cannot imagine him being the Jake in the books I'm afraid. Sure he buffed up and it got everybody in the cinema swooning so obviously the writers knew what they were doing...

I also felt the Volturi weren't menacing enough. Though maybe because I knew that nothing bad was going to happen anyway...

Everything else was quite wonderful though especially the special effects. The wolves were so huge! :o

Roll on for the next fil anyhoo. Loved the 'cliffhanger' ending haha.

That's the other thing I meant to mention! The ending sucked! I liked the idea of him popping the question in the final scene but it came across as a soppy way to end the film - casual viewers would've had no idea that Bella really hates the idea of marriage. It would've been much better if the very final shot was a look of disgust crossing her face :heehee:
Just went from the movies. Well, i didn't want to go particularly, was literally dragged there. But i quite liked the film in the end. Not that I'm orgasming over it like most people i know but it was good.
Oh and please tell me that Jane character is going to appear again in the next movies

I really enjoyed this. Didn't think it dragged at all.

Personally even preferred it to Twilight. My least favourite of the books though. ^_^

Shoulda just waited for the DVD rip to appear on the net mate.....

Yep, in a rather stark contrast to "Let The Right One In" with 8.1 and a place at IMDb's "Top 250" films of all time.......

I think we all know which is the superior here....
