Posted June 2, 200916 yr Chart commentary: After some weeks of relatively slow movement, the Top 20 gets a massive shake-up this week, though not at the very top, where Canadian producer Deadmau5 again holds off former chart-toppers Royksopp and Robyn to make it two weeks at number one with 'I Remember' (featuring the vocals of Kaskade). Meanwhile, Peter Gabriel era Genesis continues to find unexpected favour as 'Your Own Special Way' climbs two places to number three. But below the top three, there are such might movers that it is almost impossible to predict which of them, if any, will be number one next week or later. Daniel Merriweather will be delighted with the progress of his second solely credited single 'Red', which is already out performing his debut hit, by climbing ten places to number four today, but this is almost tortoise-like progress compared to what's going on below him. Joint biggest climber is Little Boots, up twenty-two places with 'New In Town' to number five, overtaking Swedish idol Agnes, who nevertheless makes a big jump as well with 'Release Me', up nineteen places to six. Sharing the climbing honours with LB is Kelly Clarkson, who has her 22 place climb to eight with 'I Do Not Hook Up', while in an attempt to inject more testosterone in a female dominated top ten (which also includes Miley Cyrus at seven), U2 get the highest new entry, going back to 80s basics with 'Magnificent'. Dizzee Rascal makes up the top ten with 'Bonkers', but looks unlikely to repeat his number one of last year with such intense competition. It's certainly done for the likes of Green Day and The Courteeners, who have seen their chart progress suddenly reversed. But coming back into the charts as a result of a beautiful Bank Holiday TV retrospective are The Carpenters, although with album tracks, not the well-worn singles... 'Mr Guder' is stationed just outside the Top 20, while from the album 'A Kind of Hush', the sublime 'One More Time' enters at 16, meaning that one of the greatest female voices of all time in Karen Carpenter may still be able to compete with the top stars of today on this chart at least. June 2, 200916 yr Author Thanks! I'm always so rushed, I'm sorry I never take time to thank people for commenting, but thanks all anyway. :cheer: There are so many fantastic songs I'm listening to at the moment I really have no idea what I want to be number one next week... right this second U2 have a very good chance as I have 'Magnificent' blasting out of my speakers at top volume... that song could've been on 'War' or 'October', it's brilliant... but then, so are Deadmau5, Merriweather, Lil' Boots, Agnes, Kelly, even the obscure Carpenters tracks I've been downloading since watching that programme! Feeling very musical at the moment, I think this must be one of my best ever charts... also enjoying Doves and Reverend and the Makers which didn't make it this week, but will next...
