Interesting World Cup, eh?

Quite! I'm more sad at the States going out than England. At least your team played with some passion and grit (not to mention skill). Having said that, Ghana's goalkeeper is Wigan's (my hometown) goalkeeper - so I'm rooting for them now.

Well, the US defence just couldn't tighten up, like they did against Algeria.....( of 24 goals allowed were in the first 15 minutes of the matches leading up to their loss Saturday against Ghana....England were just to disorganised all way round, I think.....too many I players in the team.....a saying that the US squad seems to live by is, 'there's no I in team'....also, the English squad just seems to have too many massive egos, like the French squad....my opinion on the English and French squads....

I'm a bit gutted.....Ghana blew their golden chance to put out Uruguay, by missing a penalty kick at the end of extra time, due to a red card to Uruguay's Suarez for an intentional hand ball on the goal line....

I have been gutted by many of the matches at this years world cup, i dont know is it just me or has this years world cup lack the usual magic?

I think it's an overall lack of magic, Pete.......at least from my untrained perspective.....

I think Norma will be gutted, as well, since I know she was rooting for Ghana to advance, as well.....

Well the right team won in the end I suppose. Spain were definitely better than Holland in the final and I found it disappointing that the Dutch team played as nasty as they did. They were lucky not to be down to ten men before half time.

Well then! How are we all?

You know Biggie I've found that out. In 2004 I quit a job in a case of cutting my nose off to spite my face ... and yet right now ... I'm temping working for the average hourly rate I was on all those years ago! Had I stayed in that job - I'd have been (for the region of the UK I'm in) on a much higher hourly rate than most.

Having said all of that ... 12 years ago when we lived down south - I was on 20K a year for a very easy secretarial job ... up here ... you'd be lucky to be on half of that ... and they'd expect a lot more for their money. Northern bosses are such b*stards!

Jobs are so fickle these days and we all really have to go with what we can that suits us, the days of getting great pay is getting harder to find and i dont know about the UK but i think here in Ireland it will be a long time before those days return again.

Speaking of Nigel ... I think is the perfect time for him to make an absolute bundle from his memoirs! I'd buy a dozen copies for friends and relatives at Christmas! Seriously ... I don't see why he shouldn't clear up from all of this.

Have you been watching any of the golf Biggie (or don't they bother showing sports stuff on US TV unless Americans are doing well in it?)

Norma

I've watched it in bits and pieces, Norma....congrats to the South African, Oosthuizen, or however his last name is spelt, for winning the Open, on Nelson Mandela's birthday, no less....John Daly, and Phil Mickelson both finished at +1....and Tiger was at like -3 0r -4....The Open was aired all 4 days on ESPN here...

Well, a week ago today, twisted me ankle at work, which as it turns out, is fractured....went to an orthopædist today for him to have a look at my handiwork....he confirmed that, indeed, it is fractured, and, put me in a removeavle fiberglass boot, until I return to him next week, for more xrays, to see how it's healing.....if it's not healing properly, surgery may be involved, to repair the damage I caused....now, I can't get comfy with this boot on me ankle.....

I had an accident a few weeks back ... a collision between my toe-nail and the sofa. The sofa won. Then ... the week after ... I broke the middle toe of my other foot!
