Other bands are just as much about putting on a show as Britters! Look at Iron Maiden for example! They do all their instruments and singing live AND they put on a great show and the fans leave thinking it was worth the money! My problem with Britney is the fact that people let her get away with miming and saying they just love her but the question is WHY? If she doesn't sing live or have anything to do with her music then what's to love about her?

I have spent nearly £300 on my upcoming gigs which are Blur at Hype Park, Reading Festival and Green Day at O2 Arena and I bloody hope that every one of those bands I see on those bands that I see play perform live or I'll definitely feel ripped off!

exactly, people like someone in this thread (cant remember who) said she cant sing but they dont care because they still love her, but she is famous for singing, so why would you love her if she cant sing :s

She hasn't performed in the UK in years on tour; hence why she's sold out. People do care about her lip-syncing; I suppose their just used to it. She doesn't lip every song, I know it sounds pathetic but she sings some of the songs. And people are going for other factors - to be entertained.

i think if the act can do something else really well, like dance or something then

you could look over the miming but many artists manage to combine dancing and singing on tour

very well such as Girls Aloud, Kylie (she is just mindblowing live, never saw he rlive but have her DVD's)

and also Anastacia so it is not really a concrete excuse

it's not hard to get a few lessons and give a show stopping LIVE show

Some of the answers to the Times Review of her concert pointed out that they really enjoyed the show (the backing dancers were good and the circus entertainers fantastic) but glad they only paid £5 for their ticket! And before you say anything ... I know hers isn't the only concert this happens to! The 'sold out' is bollocks - even the talk of Take That and Oasis being sold out - bollocks!

It must be very annoying though for those true fans who paid full wack at the start of the sales for people to come along afterwards and get better seats for a fraction of the cost.

The point about Britney's tour is (and it has only just sunk in with me) it is her name that has sold the tour out. Lets face it - she's put a lot of money people's way - tour operators, venue attendants, artists, musicians (ok the musicians is pushing it a bit). She has lent her name to something that is making money. She isn't so much a singer or anything to do with music at all ... she is a prime example of pitch-perfect marketing. And ... as someone pointed out the tour is entitled "The Circus ... Starring Britney Spears". I personally wouldn't go to watch her ... I'd rather go and see Pink or Katy Perry (even having heard what people have said about her live singing) but Britney seems to be making a lot of people happy and the fact that her fans know exactly what to expect ... the one thing she isn't doing is 'conning' them. The only thing that puzzles me is that since even she knows that we know (and the world and his dog knows) that she mimes .... why the microphone/earpiece?

Judging from a recent tour performance I watched on youtube of Girls Aloud, I wouldn't put singing as a talent for them.

You must be kidding :o

It's easier for them than let's say for Kylie cause they're a group so each member doesn't have to sing 100% of the time, but they are f***ing good live !

I've never heard about someone not enjoying seeing them live and their vocals are great.

I really wish I'd gone to watch Girls Aloud (I had the chance but I was so committed already what with Take That, 10CC, Coldplay, Murder Mystery Weekends etc) that I daren't ask my husband to child-mind once more!

Their performance of Womanizer was attrocious.

Haha I love that one, with Nadine's Irish accent on the "womanizer you're a womanizer" bit

Well we'll never know what Britney's performance of Womanizer was like will we?

People that buy tickets to a Britney Spears concert KNOW that 50+% of the show is going to be lipped. She sings a couple of the songs live every night, but that's about it.

People that are Britney fans really don't care about her voice once it leaves the studio, that's just a fact. Her and her people put on one hell of a show though and make it worth every penny to be there, I can assure you that. I have been to every one of Britney's tours and her first two tours she sang EVERYTHING live, but then as they made it more about entertainment, props, costumes, dancing, etc the live singing went away. That's fine if you aren't fine with it, but alot of people are considering every scheduled date of her tour has been sold out to the last seat.

I'm ok with the miming for the reason of I love her music, I love her persona, and I love the connection she makes with her audience... that is the main reason I became such a HUGE fan.

Well if you as a fan don't mind the miming then that's fine. Its your money! Do you ever go to see any live acts though? To remind you of what the real thing is about?

Of course. I have seen Christina Aguilera, The Used, Katy Perry, Avenged Sevenfold, Buckcherry, Hollywood Undead and Shinedown.

Some of those I were dragged too (Shinedown and Buckcherry) All of my friends prefer rock, except for two or three. But because of them I have actually started to really like rock music, the shows were all good in different ways. Christina's was good because of her amazing voice, allt he rock shows were fun because everyone was jumping and getting $h!t faced, Britney's was amazing because of how spectacular they make everything, her dancing is great, and her connection with the audience is almost magical. IDK, it's hard to explain, you are just glued to her even when all this stuff is going on around her, and I can say I thought that before I became a huge fan of hers on her first tour.

Britney was my first tour, first single, first album, first poster. So I guess everytime I see her live or listen to her music there is just all these combination of emotions that go around in my head that just make everything about her nostalgic, exciting and just... awesome.

I think it's appalling if artists lip-synch at a live show. It's outrageous that they have the audacity to charge money to see them and not even sing one word. Pink is a great example of someone who puts on a hell of a show (I'd go as far as saying much better than Britney's from the clips I've seen) and she still sings live amazingly. There is just no excuse when you're job is a 'singer', even if Britney and/or her fans class her as an 'entertainer'.

I think the odd TV appearance is fine because issues always come up like illness or sound problems and that's not the end of the world. But when people are paying money I expect them to sing live.

Who in the right wants to pay and see Britney in concert?

It's just a local dance troupe performing to a CD!

Has Britney ever sang live?

Some of the audio is out of sync but that's actually her sining live.

Mid 2004

And this is on her current tour:

And I think another reason her voice is weak now is because she naturally sings with her diaphragm, but her record label has her singing through her throat for a "sexier" sound, and that's what has been said by alot of people who used to work with Jive.

When she was really young:

She uses it to talk to the crowd!

Besides, I think they switch it on for a few songs

I'm no expert on what she sings live and what she doesn't, but it's been said in here before, she's an entertainer.

Yes, I understand that P!nk can do it live, but we all know P!nk is a much better singer than Britney.

I certainly don't feel ripped off or anything just because she mimes, because she's putting on a show.

I would much rather have her lip sync and put on a show, than let her attempt to sing the songs live and just stand there.

Maybe you'd feel ripped off if you went to see her, but you certainly would be entertained.

I love Kelly Clarkson to DEATH, but on her last tour she kinda bored me as all she did was stand there and sing (amazingly well, may I add).

I'll still see her again though because the main thing about being a fan, especially in the pop world, is that you get to see the artist.

Well, in 1999 she was new and this fresh, innocent girl.

The Frank Skinner thing is a live vocal, and it shows Britney has to mime after hitting a demanding point in the song.

That second clip does not mean anything - it's shouting and talking.

Watch the clips of when she was young.
