My favourite Eros song, Yo Sin Ti:

I can search for singles but the albums are more difficult to find.

Oh well, I know about www.charts-surfer.de, I'll try there :)

Seems to have been crippled by copyright though :(

Suprised Fuoco Nel Fuoco did so badly, that song was in the MTV European Top 20 for months, and was my introduction to him, the album it's from along with the following four hits, Stilelibero, is superb

It's summer, so I'm in a latin mood right now

I made a graph that shows the development of the number of new entries (black) and re-entries (orange) per week in the German singles chart since 1994 in a yearly average. As you can see new entries had their heyday in 2003 and then began to decrease, but they seem to have stabilized in 2009. Re-entries are climbing steadily since 2007, although the download era already began in 2004.

thanks Ash, very interesting!

Do you know how big of a share have the downloads in the official chart? I mean how big influence has it to the positions and if there will be any changes in the future for the downloads rules?

I don't know exact numbers... Emiliana Torrini is now only #12 although she's #1 on the download chart. I don't believe that all the 11 songs above really sold more than her only because of their physicals. I think this has to do with Media Control's rules... They don't count all sales for the chart. If a song is mainly sold on one retailer, most of those sales are excluded. Maybe it's because Emiliana was #1 on iTunes, but only ~ #16 on Musicload...

I hope they will let every download chart very soon, but I haven't heard anything like that... Maybe it's the influence of Media Markt and Saturn who don't want empty spaces in their chart shelves.

Although at least Media Markt apparently has its own chart now.

When I went to Austria to the Media Markt/Saturn (same company actually), I was wondering that they don't really sell many singles anymore. I know Austria is not Germany but the structure is quite similar.

I didn't know though that MM/Saturn have such a power in the music industry in Germany :o

Well, it's only guesses... But why else should download only songs only be allowed to chart if the record company wants to? I really think MediaSaturn is quite powerful... and they're playing on it. I once worked there and know some stories I better not tell in public :teresa:
Ooh, gossip please! I went to a Saturn when I was in Trier about 5 years ago (on a day out from Luxembourg) and it was like an Aladdin's cave of maxi singles... I swear I spent about 150 euros

Mad shopper

But I use to spend a lot too when I go a German Media Markt or Saturn

Hahaha, me too. I love German MediaSaturn shops. Hungarian ones suck! :( (they are too expensive, have no special prices - only for crappy Eastern Europen releases, and usually have music released in 1-2 years time)

Is Hungary close to Germany? Didn't know :o

Yan's German Chart Comments - Issue Date 5.06

Perhaps it is not a surprise that the freshest DSDS winner, Daniel, remains at the top of the German singles chart for a second consecutive week, while Lady Gaga sticks to the #2, just refusing to go down. The biggest news comes at #3, where Norwegian band A-Ha enters with its comeback single "Foot of the Mountain". The song not only becomes their second biggest hit in Germany, after debut song "Take On Me" (their only number one) but it may be said that it comes from nowhere. So far it has had no video to promote it and has been popular only in their home country. However, the fact that A-Ha have several top ten hits in Germany, most recently "Summer Moved On", means that they have never ceased being popular there. The single headlines the forthcoming ninth album of the group.

After a somewhat failed start of their chart career, the girls from Queensberry, the latest winners of the Popstars TV show (which has given us No Angels and Monrose, among others), manage finally to score their first top 10 hit. Though being a beautiful ballad, "Too Young" benefits also from the fact that it is not available on Queensberry's debut album. Perhaps now we may not have to write off the group so fast...

Kudos also to Alexander Rybak, who unlike UK, manages to fall by only four places this week, which seems that the Eurovision hype in Germany is still on. Pay also attention to three good songs on the rise - at #9 (Sportfreunde Stiller), #16 (Laura Pausini & James Blunt) and #20 (Lily Allen - YES!).

The third biggest new entry can be seen at #13, where Australian newcomer Daniel Merriweather enters the German charts with his debut solo single "Change". It may be a great song, but seems so old for people like me following the UK charts as well. And "Red" is the better single ;)

We may also marvel at the consistency at which U2 make top 30 singles in Germany. "Magnificent", despite a total flop in the UK, somehow manages to come in at #25. Don't expect it to be in the top 50 in the next week or two though, when everyone who cares will have a copy.

And finally for the singles chart, the prospects before Kelly Clarkson, whose previous single "My Life Would Suck Without You" was hailed as a return to form, do not seem so rosy as its follow-up "I Do Not Hook Up" enters outside the top 50...

There is a bigger action this week in the albums chart, with five new entries in the top 10. Thus Green Day are kicked off from the top position by Sportfreunde Stiller and their MTV Unplugged (great!), while the latest album of Mark Medlock comes in at #3. His three previous albums all charted in the top 3, with "Mr.Lonely", his debut hitting the #1 slot.

I quite like this week's new entries in the singles chart! :D Shame Fedde le Grand is so low. From the other side, I'm not surprised that A-ha are so high: I think the popularity of Polarkreis 18 has helped them.

I also want to mention that funny song at #12, I really like it! :D I wonder about its release in the UK...
