Hope Sandoval) Sometimes Always (1994 UK#22) Were any of you fans of brothers William & Jim Reid's outfit, or was your favourite 1980s Scottish brothers act The Proclaimers instead?
June 8, 200916 yr reckon ill get slated here by grebo and richie, but i thought they were cack! they did absolutely nothing for me and just left me cold.
June 8, 200916 yr My favourite Scottish band from the '80's with brothers in it, not Jesus & Mary Chain and certainly not the Proclaimers  , probably Danny Wilson :) . As far as J&MC go, wasn't that into them really, although Some Candy Talking was ok.
June 9, 200916 yr Too right I disagree Rob! Absolutely pivotal in 80s guitar music. Without them no My Bloody Valentine and without MBV no shoegazing although that might be a good thing depending on your point of view! Psychocandy is an absolute classic. Sidewalking is one of my favourite tunes ever.

And me..... :P JAMC are/were one of the greatest and most influential bands the UK ever produced, end of.... It wasn't their intent to make you have a warm, fuzzy glow inside you, it was their intent to be spiteful, disturbing, hateful and totally fukked up. Oh, well, maybe you just cant handle that  :P .... There really IS no band that's come along since that's matched their sound... The Horrors are certainly trying their best with their excellent new album, which is probably the closest anyone has, or will, ever come to approximating what bands like JAMC, Spacemen 3 or MBV did... Surprised that Richard missed out such gems as "Happy When it Rains", "Upside Down", "Reverence" (which got them BANNED from TOTP   ) and "I Hate Rock and Roll" from his list of Key Songs.....

June 9, 200916 yr Yep, afraid I also disagree Rob. Incredibly important in moving indie music forward combining intense garage-fuzz with Spector-esque walls of sodden romance. They also kinda gave us Primal Scream when original drummer Bobby Gillespie left to form them. My personal fave is 'Upside Down'. I first heard it when I was about 16 and fell in love with it and a large chunk of their back catalogue. Up until then I'd not really thought much of them - I remember when 'Reverence' went into the Top 10 a place lower than Ride and I thought 'Good...Ride are much better' without realising the irony that, without JAMC, there probably wouldn't be a Ride. ...and anyone who thinks they were just dour, humourless bast*rds needs to check out their cover of 'Surfin USA' or 'Head On' which, and I'm not joking here, is basically a cover of the theme to 80's Kids TV Jossy's Giants!
June 9, 200916 yr i accept im our of line here .... i accept what you lot say, but they still mean diddley squat to me !

I liked Ride at the time as well, but I dont think there was ever a point when I thought Ride were better.... The 12" version of "Reverance" is a MASSIVE tune.... I take it the Ride song you refer to is likely to be "Leave them All Behind"....? Good song, especially the proper, full-on 8 minute version, but it was always coming on slightly as JAMC/MBV-lite..... Still, it's a better tune than anything Coldplay ever came up with..... Bobby Gillespie never really "drummed" though mate let's face it (he made Ringo Starr seem like Lars Ulrich   ...), he just seemed to occasionally hit the kit every now and then....
June 10, 200916 yr Yes I know...but Bobby's spent a lot of his career billed as this or that and not really quite been there! Yep, I was 14 when Reverence came out - I'd put them on a par now ;)
