#20 isnt that bad a drop, with the video and promo coming up I'm sure it can break top 10.

I have to say, I'm not too pleased with how this is doing. :( The released was just messed up, they should have waited for radio to be all over it and for the video to be out before releasing digitally. I think they thought it'd go straight to #1 just because it's Mariah but that's clearly not happening.

I'm hoping it'll be a sleeper hit, a bit like "Just Dance" was there. The difference is that Lady GaGa was a new artist, so it took her a while to break through. This is Mariah Carey, she shouldn't really be having a slow burning lead single. :(

Yet again, it never was going to happen because she's coming back mere months after a 'flop' project...

Below, Mariah's chart positions in Billboard magazine issue dated August 1, 2009.

"Obsessed"

Billboard Hot 100: #20 (Last week #11)

Billboard Hot 100 Airplay: #41 (Last week #49)

Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs: #23 (Last week #28)

Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay: #23 (Last week #28)

Billboard Radio Songs: #40 (Last week #49)

Billboard Yahoo Video: #1 (Debut)

Billboard Hot Digital Songs: #17 (Last week #6)

It's making pretty big gains on the airplay charts that it is currently on.

Carey 'loved dressing as man in music vid'

Mariah Carey has admitted that she had great fun dressing as a man in the music video for her upcoming single 'Obsessed'.

The singer, who donned male clothing to portray the part of a stalker, told MTV News that the outfit allowed her to walk around unnoticed on the set of the promo in New York.

"When I was dressed as Mariah Carey, there were a lot of people just standing there taking pictures, and the street was closed down, and it was a whole rigmarole," she explained.

"I went into costume as the stalker, and I told my bodyguard, 'I don't want you to walk with me'. So, a friend of mine was there, and I was like, 'Let's walk together'. I was outside and no-one noticed me and honestly, the thing is that it was fun for me to be able to just be free."

Carey previously dismissed suggestions that the video was made in response to Eminem's track 'Bagpipes From Baghdad', in which he rapped about wanting her back following an alleged past romance.

By the way... Are the UK not getting this AT ALL? I have heard it on Radio 1 once and that was weeks ago and haven't heard it since, seen no video, no release date...
I've seen the video quite a few times on TV, it's getting released 17th August. ;)
It was No.7 on the 4Music top 10 last time I looked. We're the last to get it though as usual...
I think it's been put back to September 7th in line with the album's new date...

Oh I SEE!

Well has everybody seen the video of Mariah performing this on America's Got Talent? Not too bad, vocals were pretty good, the big notes were most definitely pre-recorded as usual though, there was a lot of Mariah being picked up and put back down. Oh and WHAT were those blue pants about? No Mariah, just no.

I've got a feeling this is going to flop majorly over here. I LOVED her last album as well  There just seems to be absolutely zero buzz about it.
I'm hoping for Top20 at LEAST. Anything lower than that will be a major disappointment... Obviously I hope for Top5 a-la Touch My Body, but they're holding off on the downloads for now which (as the song grows, more airplay etc.) could be a good thing.

I can honestly see like a #23 or something, if that. I don't actually like the song either. Mariah - what are you doing?! :(

I maintain that it's better than anything from E=MC2 (And I was a lamb for the likes of TMB, Bye Bye and For The Record!). I think it'll be a decent hit here but let's face it, the UK's taste in fine R&B hasn't quite been up to scratch in recent years...

Fake version called Cover Guru - Mariah Carey - Obsessed - Single (Karaoke/Instrumental) enters iTunes Top 300 at 265 :w00t:

Sorry dont agree with that at all. Side Effects $h!ts all over Obsessed IMO.

Anyway - video of her performance on AGT:

Watch on YT for HD

Good to see the fake version enter, if we see it climb quite high we can hope the single will do quite good when released. ^_^
Side Effects is great, yep, but Obsessed tops it for me. It's the little details like the George Foreman adlib that do it. She just seems to really go for it, plus it's easy to turn the song title into an obesity joke which is always fun when it comes to Mimi!
