I can't get enough of this track at the moment, I love the electronic sound and the structure, and Dave Gahan's vocals are spot on here. This is probably my favourite single of theirs since 'Precious' at least, it's just fantastic. It's out tomorrow and I doubt it'll do much, but that's the public for you.

What an AWWWWWWWSOOMMMMMMEEEEE choice for the next single... Probably the strongest track on the album, full stop...... Love the way it starts with that sort of Krautrock/DAF feel.. I'm sure this is gonna be HUGE ini Germany and Europe..... It kind of sounds very sort of DAF/Kraftwerky, very German electronica sounding..... I listen to a lot of German bands so I kind of spot the influences.....
I should hear this. I liked Wrong, but in general they're an awesome band
I've to say that I prefer Wrong, but this is still very good! The video is also very interesting

The video's ok - it could have been a blistering statement of a video, so it's a littel disappointing.... but Peace is, I think, Depeche Mode's greatest single - ever.

I agree with Scott - it is very Krautrock..... the wall-of-sound anthemic chorus, the glitchy, bleepy backing track and Martin Gore's superb backing vocals - it's a fantastic single. My single of 2009 so far - by miles.

Of course, Joe Public is bound to pass on this one..... but who cares? Depeche Mode have, since the late 80s, been a well-kept secret in their homeland, with only the faithful (and there are plenty of them) buying their music. Radio One hasn't played a DM single in over a decade, they're too leftfield for Radio Two so..... their homeland ignores the band (still not a single Brit, either, apart from a video one aeons ago.... shocking, eh?). If only their other longstanding contemporaries U2 were making music as devastatingly brilliant as this, I'd be a happy man. Not that I like U2, but you get my drift...

I hope Dave Gahan is recovering well, too, after his recent cancer op.... get well soon, Mr.

I like this second single, "Peace" even the end is quite weak.

Indeed it has some Kraftwerk sound on it

That actress is Maria Dinulescu from Romania

PS I'm very angry about cancellation of 8 shows including my city...

They re-scheduled some shows but "forgot" about Eastern Europe concerts

On the other side I was lucky enough to see Kraftwerk live last week

I think they rescheduled what they could in the timescales they have.... plus, the shows weren't cancelled on a whim - Gahan has cancer - so.... well, you have to give them a bit of leeway.

I'm sure they'll reschedule the Eastern Europe shows at some point.....

And lucky you seeing Kraftwerk.... were they incredible?

I would say cancer is a pretty good reason to cancel a show Al.... I suppose they could've put out a cardboard cut-out Dave and just played the CD in the background.... It's pretty much what they did with Britney Spears' shows.....  But, I get the impression that DM fans, unlike Britney ones, might've slightly objected to that..... ;)

Give them a break, they'll likely be round your way sometime in the future I imagine......

The attitude that the Media, Radio and TV has towards DM is absolutely disgraceful.... They really do seem to have this sort of rather fascistic, Logans Run-esque belief that once you reach a certain age you're not worthy of radio or tv airplay...... Even though it seems as if it's all the old-timers who've been doing the most challenging, "out-there" music over the past few years..... Depeche Mode and the "almost 40" set such as Placebo, The Prodigy and Manic Street Preachers have all done excellent albums this year, and the "hitting 50 and still going strong" Sonic Youth have also done a splendid album.... Jarvis Cocker's new one is pretty alright as well....

Our European friends will almost certainly take to this track... Especially the Germans, Scandinavians and French.....

It's hard to describe how much I really love this track.... the whole sentiment, the production, the almost gospel feel to the chorus.... just fantastic. Why on earth they bothered with 'Wrong' as the first single when they had this gem to launch the album is beyond me.

I do prefer the album version, but this single, had it been by, say, Kingzzzzzzz of Leon... would have been played to absolute death by ALL the stations and number one for about six months

I thought "Wrong" was cool personally.... I get why they chose that first, "Wrong" is more "old skool" DM in feel so it's a good way to announce they're back in business, whereas this is something pretty unique and different.... Choosing "Peace" first would perhaps kinda send out the, er, wrong initial signals.......?

I don't think so...

They sold over 40000 tickets and now the promoter should give all money back

It's not easy

Superb!

I was very impressed by the sound quality and how great are all those classic songs (and of course the visuals).

Ralf Hutter even sang a part of the chorus of Showroom Dummies in Romanian :P

It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen (from a great list including Massive Attack, JM Jarre, Faithless, Underworld, Thievery Corporation, Róisín Murphy and so on).

Next are Orbital, Moby, Suzanne Vega and others...

I know that

But there's a problem: when DM resumed Tour of the Universe (AFTER Dave recovered from illness), they re-scheduled some dates from Western Europe and we (the fans from the East) were left outside. They even added new dates.

I've missed DM in 2006, now the same thing in 2009...

:(

Let me just say that I'm gutted that a single like this couldn't even manage to enter the top 40. It is actually the bands least successful single in the UK for more than 20 years, which is totally undeserved. It's one of my favourites on Sounds of the Universe (Just behind 'Corrupt' probably).

I know exactly how you feel Alin. They cancelled the show in my city (Sofia) too. I bought the ticket for this concert almost 8 months ago and I was really excited about it. I totally understand that Dave had health issues. I do hope all is well with him now and it would have totally made sense if they didn't reschedule the concerts due to his illness... but he actually got better and they resumed the tour. Not only that but they rescheduled all western concerts (except festival dates) and started adding NEW, SECOND dates in some Western cities. What felt most disappointing to me was when one day (after a month of total lack of information) they annouced new additonal shows in Germany, Italy and Spain and on the very next day they said their schedule is too busy to fit the postponed Eastern show. I don't blame the band personally but whoever fault this was it was absolutely unprofessionally handled.

Anyway, I'm glad I saw them during the previous tour because they are definitely one of the best live bands out there.
