Just been watching the Mel Brooks spoof on Alfred Hitchco ck's films - High Anxiety. In a tribute to one of my favourite film directors - here are, what I believe to be the top ten Hitch films for your perusal and votes! Some may be too young to appreciate Hitchco ck so I assume it'lll just be me and Biggie taking part in this!

Biggie I know this sounds awful ... but I truly dislike Vertigo - I don't understand its fascination - I've watched it twice to try and see and I can't! I even like Frenzy more than it ... and Frenzy isn't one of his best.

if you know your Hitchcock well, could you give me some examples of the best Psychological Thrillers by Alfred Hitchcock thanks.

 

Not too sure on the best psychological thrillers from Hitchcock. Hitchcock was the Spielberg of his day ... his aim was to thoroughly entertain without boring people. One of his most famous sayings was that he made the length of his films to be as long as 'the human bladder could take'. And although lots of people saw Psycho as one of the best 'horror' or at least 'thriller' films - Hitchcock himself saw it as nothing more than a sublime 'black comedy'.

 

So ... if you ask me for my personal opinion of one of his best psychological thrillers ... it would have to be what many consider one of his weaker films - the British set .... Frenzy! Watch it and you'll see what I mean.

You may take a lot of people by surprise if you choose Frenzy - although in general - it is seen as a bit of a 'slasher' film - by Hitchcock's high standards. For pure psychological drama (but a bloody boring film) you may want to look at Hitchcock's 'Marnie' starring Sean Connery and Tippie Hedren (apart from Grace Kelly - Hitch's favourite blonde damsel in distress.) For me it is one of his worst films - centreing around a rather simple plot of the story of a Kleptomaniac!

 

However - try and seek out Suspicion - it is a bit of a revelation ... and its not until you get to the end that you realise why.
