Oh nooo :o I was so afraid of those dolls when I was a kid :( I had nightmare about it and stuff :lol:

looking over my diary, I'm on holiday on the week Sat 11th-Sat 18th July, so realistically, I could do the semi results on Sat 11th but the final results will have to be on Sat 18th as I definitely won't be able to get it all together in the hour after I finish work on Sun 19th

 

do people mind having the results on a Saturday night? it's the only option really as I work late shifts, so it's either that or a Thursday night (my only other day off) :heehee:

 

so I'm sorry to mess up the mods plans for a break, but as the host, these are the dates that I'm going to have to do (or I'll have to pass the hosting to MKL, which I really don't want to do :kink:) to be able to fit it in with my lifestyle and booked time off and I really don't want to have it all rushed into 2 and a half/3 weeks which it would be if we implemented this break

 

Monday June 22nd (9pm) - Artist Reservation thread opens

Saturday June 27th (Time TBC) - Song Confirmation thread opens/Artist Reservation thread remains open (so 2 weeks to decide a song)

Saturday July 4th-Saturday July 11th - Semi Final Voting

Saturday July 11th (7pm) - Semi Final results

Saturday July 11th-Saturday July 18th - Final Voting

Saturday July 18th (7pm) - Final Results

 

this leaves a week for each stage of the competition (Artist reserving, song reserving, semi voting, final voting)...if the mods don't agree with these dates I will have to pull out of hosting it as it's the only time I can do it

The bottom line is that you are the host. Therefore you have to fit the itinery with what is best for you.

 

If it is not ideal for others (such as I knew I would not be around for the Final Results thread yesterday), then so be it.

Oh my goodness...yeah, it looks fine, but just you watch when everyone wants confirmation to end next Monday :manson: I'd say you could fit reservation in starting at Wednesday, otherwise you just get massive complaints...

 

Or, how about we just open a combined reservation/confirmation thread from Wednesday 24th at 9pm until Saturday 4th? ^_^ Could that fit in with your timetable? I'm not quite sure at what point we got a defined split between reservation and confirmation, but thinking about it it doesn't make much sense...

As T.I.P stated just fit it in when you can. Saturdays are really much better for me, as I give it 100% committment

 

And come autumn the X Factor results are to be screened on a Sunday evening, so some members might have to re-juggle the BJSC comps to a Saturday.

I am definitely opening something tonight at 9pm (as I said I would), it can either be an artist reservation thread OR a combined artist reservation/song confirmation thread that I will leave open for 2 weeks (and will not be closed early under any circumstance :kink:), what do people think would be best? I actually agree that the split reservation/confirmation threads are a bit pointless when it could all be put into the same thread...

 

people who want to leave BJSC be for a bit will still have a good couple of weeks to select a song, and if there are any artists they desparately think that they might want, get here at 9pm tonight to reserve them

Rich - I'd suggest only the Reservation thread.

 

that's fine by me, although it would make it so much easier for the hosts if the two threads weren't separated I think, all it takes is for the country to have (CONFIRMED) in brackets next to their name and people can see what artists are already off limits without skipping between threads

 

of course there is the danger with this method that people will confirm some track asap and then want to change it by the time the two week window is up

That's exactly why I'd suggest you only open the reservation thread - Chances are if people confirm a entry now they'lll want to change it.

See RyRy's thread in the reality forum, :cry: I do prefer it on a Saturday. Its to do to give voters more voting time, more likely to clash with SD

 

I think opening the artist reservation only is the best option, that's reasonable and everyones happy. :)

Do people think I'm insane when I say that I don't think Mods should have more power than us when it comes to making decisions? :(

 

I think when it comes to making decisions for the contest, each participant should have an equal say/vote (that includes mods as participants)

 

Mods should definitely have more power with the actual forum, I'm not at odds with that just in case you're wondering, but I just think that the contest is something separate from the forum and should be treated as such.

 

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks absolutely everything should be put to a vote? :nocheer:

 

I just have more thing to say, we all spend so much of our time at this contest so I think we deserve an equal say as to what direction the contest goes in.

 

Before anyone says anything, I'm not contesting the mods power of the forums, just their power over the contest itself.

I really really hope you don't feel we mods are being all dictator-like in running the BJSC, that definately isn't what I want and I would step down immediately if you think we're on some sort of (mini) power trip. When I was asked to be a mod it was simply to ensure the smooth running of the contest and that is all we want to do. Obviously you can't put absolutely everything to a vote so we have to make very small decisions ourselves but we do (and will be) putting any changes to proposed to the contest to a vote.

 

 

I think it's a bit ridiculous to ask that EVERYTHING be put to a vote - while I'm not by any means suggesting mods are the be-all and end-all on these matters, and am quite frankly one of the last people who would want others to think I'm going on a power trip with these things, to suggest everyone's opinion is equal with regards to these things is a little silly - look at Liam for example, who came in and all of a sudden started trying to call the shots on basically everything from the word go and telling us how to do our job when he frankly didn't have the contextual experience to know the effects of what he was suggesting. Thankfully most new members aren't at all like this, but I would say that to have participated (or at least followed) the contest for a while counts for a lot, especially with regards to the fundamental debates, as you actually get a degree of context with these things - for example, the three contests generally remembered as being 'cheap' (II, VIII and XIV) are hardly remembered as classics, but you try telling that to someone (relatively) new who's pretty set on sending something cheaper! :lol: Anyway, more on topic, I would hardly say asking for a break of at least a day is a 'major change' in any form whatsoever, and some of you are quite frankly being absolute drama queens with these accusations of power trips - yeah, democracy is good and all, but does something as minor as having a short break for a couple of days really need putting to a vote? The matter's been resolved now, but seriously, would making your reservations on Wednesday make all that much difference to making them tonight? You still have a week before anything starts, and it's just speculation either side of it anyway - what difference does it make at all? :wacko:

Oh, and given Saturday nights are pretty inconvenient for a lot of people (some of us do have lives occasionally! :heehee:), I don't think a move to Saturday night BJSCs would really be all that good...and also, how hard is it to watch a results show at the same time as the BJSC? :lol:

We can cope for one contest though, seeing as it is the only night Rich can do (plus we can catch up the next day if need be)
