I really really hope you don't feel we mods are being all dictator-like in running the BJSC, that definately isn't what I want and I would step down immediately if you think we're on some sort of (mini) power trip. When I was asked to be a mod it was simply to ensure the smooth running of the contest and that is all we want to do. Obviously you can't put absolutely everything to a vote so we have to make very small decisions ourselves but we do (and will be) putting any changes to proposed to the contest to a vote.

 

No way! I don't see the mods like that at all. I just think that maybe this contest would be better if it was up to all of us to help the contest move forward and not just the mods

 

The bottom line is that I just don't like how something was just randomly decided by a small group of people and that another group of people had no voice.

 

 

I think it's a bit ridiculous to ask that EVERYTHING be put to a vote - while I'm not by any means suggesting mods are the be-all and end-all on these matters, and am quite frankly one of the last people who would want others to think I'm going on a power trip with these things, to suggest everyone's opinion is equal with regards to these things is a little silly - look at Liam for example, who came in and all of a sudden started trying to call the shots on basically everything from the word go and telling us how to do our job when he frankly didn't have the contextual experience to know the effects of what he was suggesting. Thankfully most new members aren't at all like this, but I would say that to have participated (or at least followed) the contest for a while counts for a lot, especially with regards to the fundamental debates, as you actually get a degree of context with these things - for example, the three contests generally remembered as being 'cheap' (II, VIII and XIV) are hardly remembered as classics, but you try telling that to someone (relatively) new who's pretty set on sending something cheaper! :lol: Anyway, more on topic, I would hardly say asking for a break of at least a day is a 'major change' in any form whatsoever, and some of you are quite frankly being absolute drama queens with these accusations of power trips - yeah, democracy is good and all, but does something as minor as having a short break for a couple of days really need putting to a vote? The matter's been resolved now, but seriously, would making your reservations on Wednesday make all that much difference to making them tonight? You still have a week before anything starts, and it's just speculation either side of it anyway - what difference does it make at all? :wacko:

 

Ok first of all when I said everyones vote was equal I meant everyone as a whole not just Liam.

 

Maybe we shouldn't put it to a vote, but I think we should at least have something in the schedule, like a week long break so everyone knows it's coming and it's not coming out of the blue randomly.

 

I wouldn't really have a big problem with a weeks break if it was in the schedule like every 3-4 contests we take a week break and it could become the norm.......but it's just because it came randomly out of the blue that annoys me.

Just some questions for clarification since this is my first BJSC and I don't want to get any bad surprises. :D

 

I can basically use any song as long as it didn't comepete in an ESC or BJSC yet and the artist isn't already taken for this BJSC, right?

Does the song have to be recent or can it be some years old already? Does it have to have been a single or is just a track off an album also ok?

yup that's right - also you may not use an artist who finished top three in the previous contest i.e Beautiful Small Machines, Livvi Franc or MPHO. You can find all previously enterred songs in the 'Songs of the Contest' thread which has been pinned.

 

The song can be any age, either a single or an album track we don't mind ^_^

With me, you can expect mostly rock/alternative songs with the occasional pop song thrown in. From looking at previous results I can see that I most likely won't win anything with that (regarding the rock songs at least) but participating is everything and I rather finish low with a song that I find great than finish high with a song that I actually don't like myself. :D

What's better? A soon-to-be-successful Norwegian indie band's AMAZING song, GaGa-esgue European artist's decent creation, a female singer-songwriter sweet pop song Kate Nash-esque or Sound Of Arrows as a featured artist in a song by a swedish pop/rnb/techno female singer? :kink:

Okay, last week I changed Espen to Eskraine. I like it, but I can see how it may confuse people. AND ERIK HATES IT. :P
