June 24, 200916 yr Author Am I being dim? Because you've lost me there TiP :P[/size] he means it wouldn't be as cheap as Girls Can't Catch I think :heehee:
June 24, 200916 yr Hang on, does that f*** me over for Mercy Mercy or not? :drama: No, don't worry :P Samples are fine...unless the whole song is centered on them as mash-ups are, in which case it's only not fine if a song in the mash-up has been sent ;) I found it quite odd that Rich objected to Katy Perry and Lady GaGa given neither were anything even approximating cheap (or uninspired for that matter!) at the time...
June 24, 200916 yr I'm so disappointed. I really thought by now most people would have grown up and realised that sending big artists with the latest leaks really isn't the way forward with this contest...seriously, can anybody actually tell me what it achieves? And don't give me that bull$h!t about 'I'm just sending what I love' - I love Umbrella to pieces yet I wouldn't bloody send it because it's pointless! And examples such as Owl City and Beautiful Small Machines just prove that fantastic discoveries are out there to be made, so why do people bother going down the uninspired route? Phil, I really hope you aren't sending Girls Can't Catch as that would be supreme hypocrisy up there with Nonsuch's u-turn on the contest... I'm sorry. But as I've said numerous times. The way forward is to ban these songs from being allowed to be entered. Hence I would ban ALL songs that are on the release schedule for a 10 week period (4 before & 6 after the Final takes place, banning songs that made the UK Top 40). If a song on the release schedule subsequently flops (fails to reach the UK Top 40) then it can be used in future contests as it is affectively a "slipped disc". If an artist leaks a new track on their myspace or appears on Radio well in advance of the release date then I regard them as fair game, the same as a big hit single in the USA, Australia, Sweden, etc that may or may not turn up as a single. I personally think allowing songs like these to compete then boycotting them with your votes is far more hypocritical as it is condescending other competitors. Whilst I fail to see why Never Leave You was singled out (it's release date has been further put back to 10th August by the way, presumably to give time for the Girls Can't Catch sales to die down), as the video was not available, and the track had not been playlisted anywhere at the time, in start contrast to Cascada or JLS (but at least they were a male act not a girl group); or Black Eyed Peas worldwide Top 10 hit or numerous other previous contestants such as Love Story which was #2 in the charts at the time.
June 24, 200916 yr I don't think banning songs from being used will lead to something to be honest. I seem to be calming down with my Anti-Cheapness moves because it's inevitable that we will be getting more and more cheapness if we continue struggling to take them... I remembered VI. What a contest!... no argues, no 'cheap' word yet. :kink: Nevertheless, I'm still a member of the ACM, I'm just really tired of all this cheapness neverending story. Let us have a break for at least one contest! :P
June 24, 200916 yr or La Roux-Bulletproof which deffinately it was sent to achieve a good result, if not win the whole competition.
June 24, 200916 yr So I wouldn't be able to send the new Rumble Strips single but I'd be fine to send 'Remedy'? It's not really a solution at all. It CANNOT be made workable as far as I'm concerned.
June 24, 200916 yr :heehee: Was that aimed at me? I'm thinking so... either way Christina Aguilera certainly isn't my first choice. I'd send her song if it leaked in time, was phenomenol (another Umbrella/Fighter) and I had no other choices. So basically there's a 1% chance I'll be using her. Am I being dim? Because you've lost me there TiP :P Not particularly, it's just aimed generally at everyone who's after something that will be an obvious hit...attempts to send Work, Girls Can't Catch, as well as others -_- And Rich, you still have yet to explain how we allow for stuff on the release schedule that isn't cheap! Barely anybody would have heard La Roux - Quicksand if it hadn't been sent, despite it being on the release schedule and it being released the day after it won! And again, how do we deal with songs that change release date or songs that are blatantly cheap but not on the release schedule - e.g. Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone?
June 24, 200916 yr It isn't particularly hypocritical either Rich, as there's no sensible way to allow them to not compete without getting rid of a lot of songs that aren't cheap...
June 24, 200916 yr Whilst I fail to see why Never Leave You was singled out (it's release date has been further put back to 10th August by the way, presumably to give time for the Girls Can't Catch sales to die down), as the video was not available, and the track had not been playlisted anywhere at the time, in start contrast to Cascada or JLS (but at least they were a male act not a girl group); or Black Eyed Peas worldwide Top 10 hit or numerous other previous contestants such as Love Story which was #2 in the charts at the time. So you're saying 'Never Leave You' is fine but then branding 'I Gotta Feeling' cheap despite it being released a week AFTER?!

Let us have a break for at least one contest! :P 'Cheap' has existed as a concept since the first contest, so don't try to fool yourself that the past was as good as you remember it :P Plus, hello? Evanescence came third! And what do you mean by having a break? There's no way of having a break unless you mean we ignore the cheap entries being sent...in which case we just end up with another Jai Ho! scenario whereby everyone thinks that just because we don't complain it's fine to vote in droves for it...
June 24, 200916 yr Author or La Roux-Bulletproof which deffinately it was sent to achieve a good result, if not win the whole competition. we all want to achieve a good result (as it means that we have introduced more people to a song that they love) but it shouldn't be the primary aim of the contest I don't think...there are more original and ultimately rewarding ways to go about getting a top 5 hit in the BJSC than reserving a song that is on the cusp of being a huge UK hit I've managed 8 BJSC top 5 hits (to my astonishment) and only Sara Bareilles could be regarded as 'cheap' I think, and even so, I had no idea that it was going to get a UK release, so it can be done if you put some effort into looking for a decent song in my opinion :o
June 24, 200916 yr Bulletproof was on the release schedule but how the f***, pardon for my language, could you possibly know it's gonna top the chart 1.5 months later?! Top 5 is what i personally was waiting for if STRUGGLE very much.
June 24, 200916 yr amazing choice quite frankly :o  if it fails to make the final I'll add another 50 points to it's score and hope nobody notices be extremely shocked Oh my. Thank you. :kink: :P Sod it, I can't be bothered to hang around until the Confirmation thread opens: Warning: The Song got banned by the BBC (well done to Radio 2's Jonathan Ross for having the balls to play this hugely ironic/flippant song and getting into trouble for it) and all other UK radio broadcasters for "making light of rape, religion, and abortion." & the suitably hilarious Tim Pope directed video similarly got banned by all UK video channels. Nonsuch entry: Amanda Palmer - Oasis One of her best. I hope I'm in your semi. :kink:

Top 5 is what i personally was waiting for if STRUGGLE very much. 'In For The Kill' selling less than only the two Lady Gaga singles is as good an indication as any it was going to be big.
June 24, 200916 yr To ban any song from the contest would be absolute madness. We're in a really sad state if that proposition is even being considered. Let people send whatever they like, and if you feel strongly about cheap songs, give them less or no points. No attempt to put strict control on how the contest is played is ever going to work... and nor should it.

Top 5 is what i personally was waiting for if STRUGGLE very much. but still it was on release schedule list and hype around La Roux was at roof. and seeing that she is still reserved for this contest :nocheer: it's a mood-kill for this contest...at least for me. and La Roux became much like sending Lady GaGa...equally.

Let people send whatever they like, and if you feel strongly about cheap songs, give them less or no points. No attempt to put strict control on how the contest is played is ever going to work... and nor should it. I would actually consider it if there was a workable way...because let's face it, nobody gains a THING (other than a cheap good result if they manage to somehow get a good result, and let's face it, did Jai Ho going top 5 prove a thing? Not really...) from a good result off something that will obviously get one (i.e. the latest leak), and it's serving only to dull the point of the contest by having these types of entries increasingly dominate it. The only problem is that there isn't a workable way to enforce something like this and Rich seemingly never reads the objections to his proposals!

And again, how do we deal with songs that change release date or songs that are blatantly cheap but not on the release schedule - e.g. Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone? Simple. I forgot to add, if I was running the contest I would go really militant: 1. Ban all acts who have a live Artist Forum on Buzzjack from being allowed to participate. 2. If an act scores a UK Top 10 hit single, their follow up single can not be entered. 3. All acts that make the Final of a contest are ineligible to be entered for the next three contests. As for the release schedule rule I suggested. If a song fails to make the Top 40, then by its very commercial failure, it can be entered in subsequent contests as it will be a discovery to a lot of people. I think it is far better to ban the mining of the release schedule, then after the event allow songs that were not successful chart wise to be included, than the other way around.
June 24, 200916 yr Oh, and funny how you claim it's madness to ban any song from the contest...yet (and I realise this may not be your personal view) the majority of the people fully in favour of cheap entries hit the roof when we proposed debanning NF entries!
