Posted June 26, 200916 yr With the runaway success of her third album, WHO I AM, in 2002, Beverley Knight became one of the most important figures in the U.K. R&B scene. Though she's often compared to the U.S. neo-soul artists Jill Scott and Angie Stone, Knight looked back to the aesthetics of '60s and '70s soul for inspiration, specifically to the influence of Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin. In 2006 Knight was awarded the MBE (The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for her contribution to British music and her charity work. Tracklisting: * 1. Shoulda Woulda Coulda * 2. Come As You Are * 3. Rewind (Find A Way) * 4. After You * 5. Weekend Thing * 6. Same (As I Ever Was) * 7. Queen Of Starting Over, The * 8. Shape Of You * 9. What If * 10. No Man's Land * 11. Special Kinda Cool * 12. Shoulda Woulda Coulda [blacksmith mix] So basically EMI are releasing a cheap collection (£4.99 on HMV) on the 20th of July in an attempt to cash in now she's left the label. Can't see it doing that well at all to be honest and I'm kinda glad it wont. What kind of track list is that?! I do like every track (though I don't know that remix) but it doesn't even work as a collection. It seems to be her two top 10 hits combined with her MCS singles and some of her weaker material. "What If", "Weekend Thing" and "Special Kinda Cool" are al B-sides. I suppose they had to make it a bit different to her Greatest Hits but they'd be better off re-releasing that than releasing this. She has better B-Sides and album tracks (I believe "Same (As I Ever Was)" didn't get a release?) to put on there.
June 26, 200916 yr Author Yeah, the only reason I'd get it was to get CD rips of the B-sides and the remix. But I've got the B-sides from iTunes, so they should be a decent quality already. Kinda want it to keep my complete collection of her albums but this isn't really her...
June 27, 200916 yr Author Stupid label. Yeah, don't think it's a very clever thing to release. I doubt it'll sell more than a couple hundred copies. It wont be promoted, the tracklisting is rubbish and her proper fans will be annoyed by it.
July 16, 200915 yr Her full release greatest hits did very well so i cant see many people buying this, on saying that hardcore fans will probably snap it up when they see it in the shops as hardcore fans will want all her albums,
July 16, 200915 yr What remix are you on about, the Blacksmith Mix of Shoulda Woulda Coulda? If it is then don't bother paying 5 quid for that one remix, I have them all on CD rip so will send you them for nowt!
July 17, 200915 yr Author Her full release greatest hits did very well so i cant see many people buying this, on saying that hardcore fans will probably snap it up when they see it in the shops as hardcore fans will want all her albums, Yeah, that's what I mean. I'd describe myself as a 'hardcore fan' (pretty much) but I'm not really tempted by this though, as you say, it'd be nice to own all her albums. What remix are you on about, the Blacksmith Mix of Shoulda Woulda Coulda? If it is then don't bother paying 5 quid for that one remix, I have them all on CD rip so will send you them for nowt! Yeah, that one. Is it any good? Could you PM it to me? ^_^ I don't have CD rips of the B-Sides, but I bought them from iTunes, which is good enough for me...
July 17, 200915 yr Just uploading now so by the time I have written this message, it will be ready to PM! I think it's much better than the original version. As the name suggests (Philly Mix) it's an R&B version of the track but she has re-recorded the vocals which are sublime! As it gets to the end when she keeps repeating ''Shoulda Woulda Coulda Means I'm Outta Time'' listen out for the harmonies! It's best to listen to it on a set of earphones as it splts the harmonies properly, in the left ear you get the main vocal line and in the right ear you get it in a higher key. Also, on the parts where she sings ''Wonder what I'm gonna do'' rather than the ''do-o-o-o-o'' she changes it and adds on falsetto inflections. Sounds much better!

Ooh well it's quite different, that's for sure. I'm used to the original and this one drags a little, but I'm sure it'll get better in time as I do think the vocals are good on it. ^_^

I don't blame you, you must be too used to the orignal after 7 years of it. I prefer the slower tempo of this version, much more paced and relaxed but you're probably used to the quicker version that it seems to drag at this tempo. If you've hard her live itunes set, she sang the Philly version of Shoulda Woulda Coulda there. Most times she performs it live, she does the Philly version.

Yeah, that's what I mean, seems natural now in the normal version. Oh yes, I have heard the iTunes set, so I have heard it before without releasing. I'm going to see her 2009 set, wonder if she'll be doing it again, or releasing any of them?
October 21, 200915 yr Was in the record store a few weeks ago to replace Music City Soul but they didn't have it, all they had was 100% and this so I begrudgingly bought a copy. It does have a great Biography in the booklet but the tracklist is so odd. Funny how on the back they spell her name 'Beverly' ... lol

That's a huge pet hate of mine, you would have thought that after 10 years of having her on their label that they'd get her name right.
October 22, 200915 yr I know, it's annoying enough when showbiz and news websites get it wrong but her old label of 10 years? Wouldn't have been so bad if it was inside the booklet but it's right on the back. Muppets

I'm not sure if it's because I'm a fan of Bev's, but seeing the name without an E (for anyone) looks wrong to me.
May 1, 201015 yr It is the kinda of relesae that would suit someone who isnt to familar with her catalogue and may like a song or 2, its a cheap way to get those songs, for hardcore fans its nice for the collection.
May 1, 201015 yr Author I don't think it's preferable to the Greatest Hits though. In fact, I think this album and the Greatest Hits would make a decent pre-"100%" greatests hits as it's basically the two biggest hits, her MCS singles and some B-sides/singles that didn't make the original GH. I've started a bit of a collection but I'm still not an owner of this.
May 3, 201015 yr Im a beverley fan but not a die hard fan, if i was a die hard fan i know i would buy this im wicked for buying releases like this from Kylie even though i usually have tracck on the albums i still feel i haveto buy it to keep the collection complete, id assume for many die hard beverley fans they may buy this for the same reason.
