Katherine looks the best on the poster! I love how she's got a dreamy expression on her face whilst defiantly clutching a deathly weapon. She's brilliant. Really hope she's in the credits this time although I doubt it...

Felicity Huffman's character Lynette is considering whether to tackle the biggie debate, piggybacking onto last season's cliffhanger in which the Scavos find themselves with two more little ones on the way (to join the four plus one they've already survived). Our Desp source tells us that Lynette is "seriously considering it," but kept mum on the details about how the taboo topic would be handled.

 

But word on Wisteria Lane is that network execs aren't allowing Marc Cherry & Co. to even mention the word abortion during any of it. Similar to its aversion to showing cigarettes onscreen, ABC is getting totally paranoid and forbidding any name-drop during the scenes in which Lynette and Tom have the major discussion. Jeez, and we thought Bree was the only thing that was still stuck in the '50s?

 

I'm looking forward to seeing Lynette with babies lol.

Still wish we'd got to see Gaby with hers though!

 

Chances are we will get flashbacks and stuff. Ever since this 5 year jump, 50% of the series are flashbacks!

Question: Do you have any info on Drea de Matteo’s Desperate Housewives character? I heard some weeks ago that she was going to be a troublemaking vixen with an Edie-like personality. But the newest spoilers suggest she’s nothing like Edie. What’s the deal? —Addip

Ausiello: Let’s ask Marc Cherry. “I don’t see Drea as a replacement for Nicolette [sheridan],” he says. “Her character is more a replacement for Neal [McDonough] in that she’s [the focus] of the new mystery.” Cherry goes on to describe Drea’s matriarch, Angie Bolen, as “a very loving but tough Italian woman who comes [to Wisteria Lane] with her husband and her kid. They’re running from something. We understand through her actions in the first couple of episodes that she’s a smart woman who will do what she has to to protect her family.”

 

Question: How about some Desperate Housewives‘ scoop about Bree’s romance with Karl. —M

Ausiello: Poor Orson won’t catch on to his wife’s affair — at least not at first. “We’re going to play him just not understanding what’s going on,” explains Cherry. “He finally gets wind of it and it’ll build to a shocking conclusion in our 10th episode. We’ve got an interesting cliffhanger involving the threesome.”

 

Question: I heard that Torchwood’s John Barrowman met with Desperate Housewives about a role. True? —Cody

Ausiello: Marc Cherry did meet with Barrowman, but “there is nothing specific planned at the present time,” says a Housewives insider. “But Marc is a huge admirer of [John's] work… and would be thrilled to have him on the show.”

Where you sad to see Nicollette Sheridan leave last season? Your characters were quite close on the show.

 

Yeah at the time I said “they’ve taken away my playmate!” [laughter]as we got to interact a lot so I thought “wow what are they going to have me do now?” but as it turns out this year I get a boyfriend so I’m safe. So yeah I get a love interest this year but I had good times with Nicollette playing against her and with her at the same time.

 

So what’s this new love interest like?

 

He’s around my age and he’s grouchy. [laughter] And is being played by Orson Bean, an old Broadway actor and he’s just a guy in the neighbourhood who I get to know and we get to know each other very well.

 

So does he move onto the street?

 

No, not yet. [laughter]

 

For your work on Desperate Housewives you’ve won two Emmys, what was it like to receive that kind of recognition?

 

It was delightful because the first Emmy, my son’s were with me at the ceremony and so it was a wonderful experience as they were with me since the very beginning and so it’s like the three of us all got the recognition together. And then the second Emmy was quite wonderful because it really was an affirmation that the group who decide the awards meant it and that it wasn’t just a popularity thing, they really thought the work had been deserving of an Emmy and that’s quite a compliment.

 

Your character is also getting a spin-off, can you tell us anything about it?

 

It’s not quite a spin-off. Lily Tomlin and I are both working with a writer/producer type and talking about the possibility of developing something to take to one of the cable networks to putting it into production so we’re at a point where we’re beginning to explore what might be possible.

 

Oh so it’s going to be more like say Frasier which came from Cheers?

 

Yeah we would be sisters but we wouldn’t be the same sisters we were on Desperate Housewives, those characters are owned by ABC.

 

Cant wait to see Mrs McK with a bf lol.

 

Disappointed the "spin-off" won't actually feature Karen and Roberta though!
