Here is the new trailer for the new Sherlock Holmes movie which is out towards the end of the year, shaping up to be one of the Christmas blockbusters of the year, starring Robert Downey Jr (Sherlock Holmes), Jude Law (Dr. Watson), Rachel McAdams and Mark Strong, directed by Guy Ritchie.

From the trailer it looks pretty impressive and I can't wait for this

Saw the trailer a little while ago it actually looks really excellent! I have such a soft spot for Robert

From what I've seen, it's coming across a bit like "Brotherhood of the Wolf" in terms of the actions sequences......

A lot of people are going to scream "sacrilege", but they seem to miss out the fact that in Conan Doyle's stories, Holmes actually knew the fighting arts and sword-play, he was pretty handy in a scrap  .... So, if anything, the "classic" adaptions have somewhat downplayed (to the point of ignoring) this aspect of Holmes' character..... Besides, this is a younger, brasher Holmes than the one you see portrayed by Jeremy Brett, Peter Cushing or Basil Rathbone....

Downey Jr is a good actor, so I've no real doubts he can do a good job.... My only real doubts are concerning Guy Richie... I just dont really rate him as a film-maker.... His past few films have been utter rubbish frankly...

Me too  And Jude Law is somehow cuter with a tache :kink:

Anyway, saw this today, excellent film! Guy Ritchie doing period doesn't sound like a good combination, but there was a good mixture of pathos and action, the casting was excellent (I actually forgot that RDJ was american at points) and the setting was totally believable too (it was very weird seeing a fully believable early 1900s Picadilly, and then walking five minutes from the cinema in Leicester Square and seeing Picadilly as it is now). I already can't wait for the sequel :cheer:

How was it?

Just saw it, quite good, nothing special.

Good work from RDJ and surprisingly Guy Ritchie didn't disappoint.

we actually went and saw this, its the first FILM ive seen at the cinema since 'sleepy hollow'...lol

i agree with osiris, good enough but nothing special.

Saw it over the holidays and thought it was really good. Albeit I did have really low expectations going into the film, considering the last Guy Ritchie movie I saw was Swept Away

The time is 1891, and the place is still London, but Ritchie can't be bothered with period details, especially dialogue. Noticing that the villainous Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) has scratched bloody messages all over his filthy prison cell, Holmes quips, "Love what you've done with the place." Holmes scholars will cry their eyes out over this update from hell. Rachel McAdams is mere window dressing as a mystery woman from Holmes' past. In place of romance, we get cheesy computer effects (that collapsing bridge — please). Ritchie is all about the whooshing and headbanging, leaving no space between Holmes' words to savor their meaning. Downey is irresistible. The movie, not so much.
