Tsetsi, your dates are correct. Cos I remember the girl that presents it said that If I Were A Boy was the first #1 of 2009 :)

Anyway, Dido is a pretty random new entry, as are Coldplay and Kings Of Leon... none are big in Europe, yet at least. Guru Josh Project is falling way too fast considering its enormous success in Europe. Should've been a #1.

Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Pink all with 2 entries in the chart. Surely that's a record no?

Where did Just Dance peak in this chart, and when please?

"Just Dance" had it's peak at No.11 three times:last two weeks and in the chart from 22.11.2008 and this is her 10th week here.I think "Poker Face" will do better.

Thanks. It's kind of a weird chart this, though I like it. Is it based only on MTV video play?
Nobody knows exactly what its based on :P

Indeed, long discussions were about this chart in the past, also on other forums between me & Xylem :D

Lately I purely forgot about the Euro Top 20 because it's pure commercial and not interesting

I frankly consider nowadays this chart is based only on the taste of the producers, and they still produce it just for the sake of the countdown history behind this chart -_-

The '90s charts are pure fun to watch, the 2000's ones are really complicated by loads of w*** xox.

MTV European Top 20 : Dido

2000 ( 1. ) Stan

2001 ( 2. ) Here With Me

2001 ( 5. ) Thank You

2001 ( 6. ) Hunter

2003 ( 1. ) White Flag

2004 ( 9. ) Life For Rent

2004 ( 11. ) Sand In My Shoes

Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Pink all with 2 entries in the chart. Surely that's a record no?

I think it is, haven´t checked though. Britney`s "Circus" is on its way in soon...

Welcome to the first chart of the year 2009 and Beyoncé continues to rule it for the second week running with “If I Were A Boy”. This single was released simultaneously with “Single Ladies” which happens to be the highest new entry this week going in at number 14. She maintains the theme of shooting videos in black and white just like she has done for one of newer videos “Diva”.

The next new entry is Coldplay with “Lovers In Japan” entering at number 19. Kings Of Leon slip in at number 20 with “Use Somebody” and replace themselves considering that their first song “Sex On Fire” leaves the chart.

Have you noticed…the chart is moving a whole lot faster these past few weeks as evidenced by the rather frequent exchange of the throne, the income of several new entries per week and the big movements in both directions.

Let´s start with Katy Perry who moves in the right direction and becomes the new number 1 with “Hot N Cold”. This is her second time at the top after her first hit “I Kissed A Girl” that reigned this countdown for 5 consecutive weeks last year and is still in the top 10 at number 8. This song has been present for 21 weeks and has managed to collect 385 points so far and these could lead the song to be one of the highest point collectors. An interesting fact is that this song wasn’t Katys first appearance on the Euro Top 20…we saw her first seated on a bench at the end of the video for “Cupids Chokehold” by Gym Class Heroes in 2007. Speaking of them, the lead vocalist for the group; Travis and Katy ended their relationship recently.

Someone who also ended a relationship but last year although are on relatively good terms lately is P!nk and Carey Hart. She is also the highest new entry this week with “Sober” climbing in at number 16. She now has two songs in the chart and this is also true for Lady GaGa with “Poker Face” going in at number 18. The difference is that GaGa has two songs in the same half of the chart and so do Beyoncé, Katy Perry and Coldplay and this is the first time ever that such a distribution of doubles happens in the countdown. This is very special as two songs by the same artist usually have a tendency of repelling each other in such away that they land in separate halves of the chart. On the same note, I think we also have a record for the number of doubles in one countdown – a total of 5. The lowest new entry is Dido who carefully slips in with “Don’t Believe In Love” at number 20 and it was about time considering the four year absence. She last paid this chart a visit with “Sand In My Shoes” which peaked at number 11 in late 2004. Her biggest hit was “Stan” together with Eminem and this was her first appearance in the chart back in 2000. It was number one for 5 weeks in the beginning of 2001. “White Flag” from 2003 was another hit which spent 4 weeks at the top.

A group that has never spent that amount of time at the summit or even worse, has never been in the chart at all is the English R&B group, Mis-Teeq. Despite this, Alesha Dixon´s appearance in the chart isn’t her first. She first appeared dancing in the video to “She Wants To Move” by N.E.R.D. in 2004. She´s now dancing very quickly in the right direction with her first single “The Boy Does Nothing”, currently number 6.

Ok I found the one with 3 new entries. The numbers from "last week" dont seem to match the chart we have here, so its likely that this is a future chart.
I'm shocked too!!!Never thought that i can vote, but is there any sence in this voting thing?I prefer to think that this chart is based on airplay across MTV in Europe.......Btw good new stuff this week.........
