January 1, 201015 yr Is the MTV European Top 20 still going strong? :o I used to watch this nearly weekend - especially back in the early 90s. When my dad first got Sky TV in 1991, I became obsessed with MTV Europe and remember watching Pipp Dann (I think she was called?) present the then Braun MTV European Top 20 with the navy blue graphics. I even came across an old clip on YouTube which was great to see. Still think it's a shame how rapidly downhill MTV became - espcially after it became MTV UK & Ireland in 1998. By 2000 it was just too Americanized. When they started showing shows like The Osbournes, Cribs (hey I'm MC Question Mark let's go check out me crib, dude!) <--- no, let's not!!! :) and other grate MTV shows I just stopped watching the channel altogether. January 1, 201015 yr Author I think MTV UK & Ireland deteriorated much faster than MTV Europe. MTV Europe was still pretty amazing until around 2004. My favorite years were actually 1997-2001.
January 2, 201015 yr I think MTV UK & Ireland deteriorated much faster than MTV Europe. MTV Europe was still pretty amazing until around 2004. My favorite years were actually 1997-2001. The only good thing about MTV UK & Ireland between 1997-2001 was when they showed MTV Hits which was pretty much 2 hours of non stop music videos. Now we have MTV Hits, a channel dedicated to just playing music videos 24/7 whilst MTV really needs to be renamed ATS (American Television Shows) because they hardly ever play music videos on MTV anymore - maybe one between two shows if there's 5 minutes to fill. The MTV spin offs are much better (MTV Hits, MTV Dance, MTV2). Not so much MTV Base but that's down to personal choice.
January 2, 201015 yr Author Oh no, MTV Europe was great in that period. We had shows like MTV Live, So 90s, Music Non Stop, Select, Top Selection, Dancefloor Chart, Partyzone, Chillout Zone, Nordic Top 5, Hitlist UK, The Fridge, Bytesize, Videoclash, Euro Top20, US Top20, The Lick, Superock, Alternative Nation, etc. There were still many vjs, some of them fantastic, nice shows, good music, etc. The only non music shows I remember from that era was Daria and Celebrity Deathmatch. Now MTV Europe is pretty boring with no vjs (since last year) and many reality shows ruining the day. But I think its the channel the plays the most music out of all the main MTV's I think. Plus its the only channel that still tries to play some hits from all around Europe.
