Unfortunately , this guy Jeff,wrote to me that MTV doesn't keep archives for it's charts from the years so far.Or at least the people at the current MTV Europe team don't have them.I asked him exactly about the charts before 1991 and DFC before 2005 but the answer was negative.

 

MTV Europe keeps video tapes of all the shows shown on MTV. This means that older European Top 20 and dfc tapes do exist in their "library" of video tapes. I´m just not sure if the entire MTV staff have access to them...

Yesterday I checked out the "Macarena" song on Youtube and it had the MTV logo with the European Top20 sign next to it :)

tsetsi, according to MTV Europe's website, the number 19 is "Hotel Room Service" by Pitbull, not "Party In The USA" by Miley Cyrus...

By the way, I'm really happy that "You Are Not Alone" hasn't entered the chart. This shows that not every number 1 in the UK chart is going to debut in MTV European Top 20...

Thanks for this correction - it was my mistake.I really hope that soon they will realise that high placed songs in the UK are not hot anywhere else sometimes............

Was anyone of you watching the European Top 20 10 years ago, specifically in 1999? The chart dated December 18, 1999 was obvously the last chart of that year in which 5ive´s "Keep On Movin´" rose to number 1. If memory serves me, Eden the week after that presented the BEST OF 1999 chart and at the end of the show she said that "next week Trey will present the best songs of the decade". We were promised the BEST OF 90´s chart but the following week after that the same chart (BEST OF 1999) was aired once again. The week after this they showed the first chart of 2000. Did anyone actually see this BEST OF 90´s chart or did MTV not bother compiling it at all???

They didn't show that chart at all.I was curious to see it but.............

For now Lady GaGa is far away from that.She has 82 weeks in the chart so far and that is far from even the Sugababes at No.20 with 138.But if GaGa makes such big hits in the future as she does now this will surely happen soon. :cheer:

I'm extremely happy with the last edition of European Top 20 for 2009. It's again one of those "made up" ones that isn't based on any edition of the Eurochart... The chart looks interesting and actually resembles the "old" European Top 20 as there are no debuts in the Top 10 (the fact that nowadays almost every week there are new entries in the Top 10 is probably what makes me sad the most about the "new" European Top 20)...

Jamse, thank you for the question! I didn't watch the chart at the end of 1999 yet and I always wondered why there were no "normal" editions of the chart for 2 weeks in a row! Now you confirm that they broadcast the chart with the Top 20 for the whole 1999 during both weeks! It's a pity they didn't broadcast this "best of the 90's" chart - it would have been interesting to see whether there would be songs from 1990 and 1991 in it (which would mean that they must have an archive from those times)...

 

Speaking of year-end charts, I want to ask something not related to European Top 20. At the end of every year MTV Europe broadcast a Top 100 for the whole year... but this year I don't think they did. However, I'm not 100% sure. Can anyone confirm that? It would be sad as this Top 100 was also a big tradition...

Tbh, I prefer the new version of the MTV Euro top20. Its become more fresher, with more variety, with a lot more new entries, and with a fairer representation of what's selling well across Europe. In the last few years the older version was so boring.
