I should have added, except for my husband and he's been brought up to do nothing. Aleshia's song really fits.

I thought mine were...the middle one still at uni is very much, but if they think mum will do it all they try it on!

son now has two tiny pet gold fish in one of my vases!! seems our four fish became about two hundred while we were away!! tiny little speckled shabunkin fry everywhere in the pond!!

I like their tails. My son had cold water fish for a while. They were a compromise. He'd wanted to move on from plain goldfish to tropical fish but I thought he was too young to be responsible for those, and I didn't fancy all the stress of keeping their environment just right either.

I was really glad my son was biddable and interested in everything. He sort of absorbed just about every skill necessary to run a home. It stood him in very good stead when his wife took breast cancer a few years ago. Thankfully, she is back to rude health and they're expecting their first child in November.

He'll be able to put all the experience he had looking after his younger cousins and nephews and nieces to good use now.

I know I moan about our son living with us, but deep down I know I'll miss him if he goes. Sue

I've seen most of the HP films in the cinema here or in France but I just can't get into the books at all and if anyone asked me about any of the films, I couldn't even give the broadest synopsis other than of the first and second, which I've subsequently caught a few times on TV.

Some of the books are very slow in parts and then rushed in others.

She isn't the best of writers.

But I do like the stories.

My young men do their own cooking and cleaning and have done for a while.

The youngest has just fed his mates.................

...............I now need to re-stock the cupboards!!

But I do love they feel they can bring their mates round and feel comfortable enough to feed them too.

my son said its being at home makes him feel like a kid, and he starts leaving everything to mum--I have made an effort to not make meals for them etc - and he takes himself off to visit Birmingham most weeks for a few days, he found a site that he gets 3 pound tickets from, so he reckons its cheaper going up there than round here!! wednesday is half price cinema day LOL so he visits to see GF - its a shame he just couldnt find work up there
Finding work seems to be a problem for everyone. Most of the normal Saturday/ evening jobs seem to have very nice Polish people in them but the kids are getting absolutely fed up of never getting anywhere.

We have a large Polish community too. Most of the supermarkets stock Polish produce too. They do seem to be hard working.

It is a shame for the school kids. There is a government/local authority inspired apprentice scheme here, but businesses have taken heavy blows from the credit crunch and haven't been able to provide as many places as it was hoped.

I personally think the education system is all wrong with its emphasis on getting as many as possible to university. What for, if there are no jobs for them when they graduate? Some ofthe courses that have been dreamt up are laughable.

Why can't we take the kids who are more practical or technical and train them in their chosen field from the age of 14. By all means insist on English and Maths and other appropriate academic subjects but do them in the mornings only or on a couple of "day release" days.

There hasn't always been a snobbish division between academic and vocational skills in this country. A trade used to be regarded as a good job. Now you're nobody without a degree or diploma.

And that wastes so much talent. The ability to 'do' is something I admire. Skill exists in all formats and we don't make the most of it. Lots of kids would benefit from apprenticeships far more than a levels and university. If someone has a dream they should be able to follow it without the pressure of further education in the wrong direction for them. Some sem to ge trapped in 'good jobs which jhust aren't what they wanted to spend their lives doing.

I can't believe our luck....

We went to book Uni accommodation and got the last room :o

Just need to find £250 deposit now and £1500+ on 22nd August!!!!

I can't understand them asking for the term payment before they get their loans cheques....not that they cover the cost but at least it's some help

its scary, luckily My daughter is at Wycombe now Chalfont campus has shut due to the wycombe uni being extended and updated - (god I hate this new boxy architecture!!) so she is living at home.

she didnt apply for the loan this term, luckily she has a job part time. Mind you I see the fee is now a loan - so she will have to repay that anyway!!!!

Mark has a debt from university and his girlfriend, who is on her second degree course, has double his amount so it's like having a mini mortage without the benefit of the house! Sue
the scarey thing is the interest keeps piling on each month, so the loan keeps growing - they arent told that, our son reckons he will try to find jobs under 15grand - so he doesnt ever repay..not that he can find any job at present!! everywhere wants experience, so how do kids get on the first run while firms have a resevoir of older employees who have lost jobs elsewhere
