ITV has revealed a new-look drama schedule for Thursday nights.

From July 23, Coronation Street's usual Wednesday evening edition will shift to 8.30pm on Thursday, while Emmerdale's one-hour episode on Tuesday will be canned for a Thursday double-bill at 7pm and 8pm.

A 30-minute instalment of Emmerdale will still transmit on Tuesday evenings at 7pm.

Speaking of the move, an ITV spokesperson said: "Coronation Street will make a move from Wednesday to Thursday nights on ITV1 from July 23 as part of a change to the schedule to reflect ITV's contracts for the Champions League, FA Cup and England internationals, which will see ITV1's live football broadcast on Wednesday evenings."

They added: "In addition, two separate episodes of Emmerdale will be broadcast on Thursdays from the same date. We're delighted that Thursday evenings on ITV1 will be a great showcase for soap from Weatherfield and The Woolpack."

Meanwhile, The Bill's new post-watershed episodes will begin airing on Thursdays at 9pm.

ITV's Coronation Street and Emmerdale output will remain the same, with 180 minutes of the rural soap and 150 minutes of Manchester action airing across five days.

Rubbish. Far too much soap on the trot.

I dip in and out of both of them and use catch up in between. There's no way I'm spending an evening watching soaps or bothering to record them.

ITV has this afternoon unveiled a band new look to its weekly soap schedules from July 23.

The decision has finally been made to axe Tuesday's hour-long edition of Emmerdale (hurrah!) but instead of reducing the Yorkshire soap's output, there's a double bill on a Thursday night at 7pm and 8pm.

Coronation Street's Wednesday evening episode has been shunted to Thursdays at 8.30pm, leading nicely into the new, post-watershed episodes of The Bill.

So here's how the soap week will now look:

Monday

6.30pm - Hollyoaks (30 mins)

7.00pm - Emmerdale (30 mins)

7.30pm - Coronation Street (30 mins)

8.00pm - EastEnders (30 mins)

8.30pm - Coronation Street (30 mins)

Tuesday

6.30pm - Hollyoaks (30 mins)

7.00pm - Emmerdale (30 mins)

7.30pm - EastEnders (30 mins)

Wednesday

6.30pm - Hollyoaks (30 mins)

7.00pm - Emmerdale (30 mins)

Thursday

6.30pm - Hollyoaks (30 mins)

7.00pm - Emmerdale (30 mins)

7.30pm - EastEnders (30 mins)

8.00pm - Emmerdale (30 mins)

8.30pm - Coronation Street (30 mins)

9.00pm - The Bill

Friday

6.30pm - Hollyoaks (30 mins)

7.00pm - Emmerdale (30 mins)

7.30pm - Coronation Street (30 mins)

8.00pm - EastEnders (30 mins)

8.30pm - Coronation Street (30 mins)

For the first week only, The Bill will air on Thursday and Friday (July 23 and 24) at 9pm to launch the refreshed image.

Not a bad reschedule, and tbf there was little else that could be done about it. At least the hour long Emmerdales have been ditched as well and there'll be no clashing between that and EastEnders. Personally though I do think this sort of soap schedule would be better; since they all started going four or five episodes a week I've only watched Corrie:

Coronation Street

8.30pm - Monday, Thursday and Friday

Emmerdale

7.00pm - Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

EastEnders

7.30pm - Monday, Tuesday and Friday

Back to roughly how it used to be, and no overexposure of any soaps. The influx of Emmerdale's episodes has certainly damaged it in the ratings...

2 hours of soap on ITV every Thursday what a turn off... I only watch EE
