I'm going to guess that because Fawkes's tears dropped onto the wound, which healed him, just as his horcrux was slowly dying?

If Harry was a horcrux then how come it wasn't destroyed when the Basilisk bit him in the Chamber of Secrets?

OMG. Childhood ruined.

Isn't it because the hocrux is dependant on the body/object it inhabits, therefore as the Basilisk didn't kill Harry (/or 'destroy his body'), it managed to remain intact?

Finally caught up with all the other films and just been to see this and just wow. I didn't know what was gonna happen so I was even more on edge (apart from the people behind me giving me a live account of what's about to happen 2 mins before it happened) though I got really confused

during the scene where it was all white and heavenly where there was like a little voldermort fetus thing. Did harry give birth to that or like sick it up or something? Is that the part of him that was voldermort. and was that heavean? So confused!

I didn't cry like so many people said I would but I did have major goosebumps at some scenes especially

when professor mcgonagall welcomes harry back and was really chuffed that she could use that spell. Also when snape said to harry that he has his mothers eyes!

Really hope the Oscar's don't snub this one was like all the others and it needs to at least be nominated for some especially cinematography! Some of the shots in this blew me away.

I love how its was 19 years later and they all lokked the same

I DIED. Ron especially! Also your signature

Its limbo and Harry has a choice of whether to move on into the afterlife or return to earth to fight another day. There’s generally two accepted theories as to why he had a choice 1) When Voldemort took Harry's blood to regenerate in Goblet of Fire, he also took in Lilly's protection, as a result he unknowingly acted as a tether to Harry back on earth and 2) Harry was the real master of the Elder Wand, therefore the wand refused to perform the spell properly on its rightful owner. Dumbledore knew that this would happen and that's why he wanted Voldemort specifically to be the one to kill Harry, but didn’t let on that he knew what the outcome would be because he wanted him to accept his fate willingly.

As for the foetus thing; Voldemort is also affected by the Avada Kedavra curse, and as a result he also ends up in limbo until he wakes up again - and that is what his soul looks like now that he has mutilated it; while Harry is of course intact. So when Voldemort dies, that's what he is going to remain like for eternity, and I assume he will travel onto to some kind of hell, although the series doesn't define if there is a heaven/hell. That’s why Harry takes pity on him, and in the book, he attempts to appeal to his last shred of humanity to try and save him, but to no avail, but the movie cut that big final speech.

oh wow thanks for the explanation Daniel! Tempted to read the books now

My main problem with this was the Bellatrix death scene! How long was it? 30 seconds? Disappointing.

I just watched it on YouTube and it's ridiculously short! In the behind the scenes footage we could see Bellatrix taunting Molly with things like "Come on Granny, give us your best!" etc.. I hate it when they cut down Helena's parts. Bellatrix is my favourite character in the entire series. <_<

I'm hoping and praying we get more individual fight scenes in the form of deleted scenes on the DVD release.

As for Voldemorts soul, it stays in limbo for eternity. He will never be able to move on to the afterlife.

Have just returned from seeing it. In all honesty, despite reading all the books and seeing most of the film - I'm only really a casual fan of the series. It's never held any sort of emotional tie for me at all and I've often pointed out faults.

I enjoyed the film on the whole though. Certain parts did disappoint me I admit, as pointed out Bellatrix's death really disappointed me, she was one of my favourite characters and in all honesty I would have liked to have seen more of the battle itself. Molly's 'not my daughter you bitch' line didn't quite sound as fierce as I wanted it either. But really, my favourite scenes and characters being cut down has always been a problem for me with the films. Not seeing Fred's death, and lack of much Tonks was also a shame.

McGonagall's 'I've always wanted to use that spell' line was rather amazing. And Hermione not ageing AT ALL during the 19 years was rather amusing.

On the whole, decent, not outstanding, but very good all the same. A solid 7.5/10

I thought Bellatrix's death was incredible!

The way she froze and shattered

. Truly cinematic!

No problem, any excuse to put my inner Harry Potter nerd to good use; and you definitely should, if you enjoyed the films then I think it's a safe bet you will enjoy the books too. The first three are pretty easy to storm through given they are quite miniscule in length, and once they start becoming tomes latter on, the mythology is appropiately deepened with it. There are lots of character development and subplot that the movies missed that would make it worthwhile and in general there is more depth to the world and you see more of how it is run, more politics etc

Oh, I really hated how

Bellatrix and Voldemort

left no body behind, it was a pointless change.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is now the 50th biggest grossing movie (so far) with sales of $651,413,000

 It's been out for a week! Wow. I really need to see it soon.

There's a 50 Greatest Moments programme on ITV1 on Wednesday. :D There should hopefully be a few from The Deathly Hallows, which has many in both parts. :D

Friday Box Office

Despite being the last to strike, the most famous superhero of Summer 2011's comic-book onslaught delivered the best opening salvo of the bunch, while the wizard wunderkind's last stand fell prey to the adage, "the bigger they are, the harder they fall."

Captain America: The First Avenger made an estimated $25.8 million on approximately 7,100 screens at 3,715 locations, edging out fellow Avenger Thor's $25.5 million to top the summer's superhero launches. If Captain America sees a trajectory like past comparable movies, its weekend would land in the $63-68 million range.

Plummeting 84 percent from last Friday's record, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II was a distant second with an estimated $14.6 million. The Friday-to-Friday fall was far more severe than past opening weekend record breakers The Dark Knight (65 percent), Spider-Man 3 (71 percent) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (67 percent) and by far the worst yet for a Harry Potter movie. However, that spoke more to the fan frenzy of opening day than to the fans' reaction to the movie, and, with a whopping $240.7 million tally in eight days, Deathly Hallows Part 2 was still the fastest-grossing Potter yet, topping Deathly Hallows Part I's $190.8 million eight-day run. In fact, Deathly Hallows Part 2 posted the second highest-grossing eight-day opening ever, behind The Dark Knight's $261.8 million, and it ranked fifth in estimated attendance.

Meanwhile, Friends with Benefits got off to an estimated $6.8 million start on around 3,500 screens at 2,926 locations. That was a tad less than fellow "friends-with-benefits" sex comedy No Strings Attached's $7.3 million back in January.

Here's another interesting article from the same website, for any box office nerds, about the upcoming movies that could challenge Potter for the opening weekend record.

I can genuinely see Twilight breaking the record. Fan frenzy is going to be even greater for the finale for Twilight.

Me too, although I think overall Part 1 is not going to get near Eclipse's $300m and I can't see Part 2 doing much better either. It will be more frontloaded than the Deathly Hallows films.

I agree I think Part 1 will take around $260 - $280 million in total when it closes but could surprise people as everyone thought Eclipse would close lower than New Moon but ended up out grossing it in the USA. I think Part 2 will close around $350 million. But yep they will be immensely front-loaded as the fans are right loons. I love going to the early showings to see the reactions of people crying and screaming. It's fabulous.
