WILL TO RECEIVE LIPA HONOUR

Earlier this year you may remember Will gave a talk at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Well now the same university has just named him as one of their LIPA “companions” – an honorary status given to people in the music and arts industry!

Along with fellow “companions” - casting director Pippa Ailion, choreographer Natricia Bernard, theatre designer Richard Hudson and community theatre expert John Fox - Will will be named by Sir Paul McCartney during the organisation’s graduation ceremony held at the Philharmonic Hall in July.

The ceremony for this is tomorrow.

Thanks TT - isn't this 'old' news though.

Edit: Just checked my old RSS O/S feeds. This was posted back in May. Looks like they are recycling old news  .

McCartney hosts 'fame' graduation

(UKPA) – 36 minutes ago

Sir Paul McCartney has led graduation celebrations at the 'fame' school he set up in his home city.

Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (Lipa) opened in 1996 after a long campaign by the former Beatle.

Alongside the graduating students, musician and actor Will Young and actor Joe McGann were made honorary Companions of the Institute.

Other Companions this year included casting director Pippa Ailion, choreographer Natricia Bernard, artistic director John Fox, set and costume designer Richard Hudson and music producer Tony Platt.

Sir Paul, 67, who remains lead patron of Lipa, gave a speech to the graduates before they were presented with their certificates.

Lipa offers degree qualifications in acting, dance, music and theatre studies.

Companionships are awarded in recognition of contributions to the world of arts and entertainment.

Companions also provide "masterclasses" to students.

Founding principal and chief executive Mark Featherstone-Witty said: "Aside from our teachers who have done what they now teach, performing arts luminaries have been good enough to make their way here."

Approximately 300 students from 18 countries were graduating.

Thanks Sunday. Wonder if he attended.

He most certainly did TT:

LIPA graduation 460

POP singer Will Young and Liverpool actor Joe McGann were among a host of showbiz stars to be named LIPA companions at the Philharmonic Hall earlier today.

They joined five other entertainment professions to be presented with the accolades by Sir Paul McCartney at the institution’s graduation ceremony.

Around 300 students representing 18 countries graduated in front of an audience that included dancer Wayne Sleep and actor Nickolas Grace.

Young, 30, said the event reminded him of his own graduation from Exeter University, where he studied politics.

He said: “The most popular people got the loudest cheers so my mum decided to cheer for everyone there.

“I’m glad to see that all the students here have a lot of enthusiasm for everyone graduating.”
