Posted July 25, 200915 yr Robert Rodriguez Panel: Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez appeared at San Diego Comic-Con today to talk about his new family film Shorts, during which time the Sin City and Planet Terror director also updated fans on what's happening with several of his upcoming projects. Rodriguez said that he's producing the remake of The Creature From the Black Lagoon now, which he said was as fun as any of the family films he's made. He is also producing Predators, which he recalled was a script that he originally wrote back in 1994. 20th Century Fox reapproached him about it recently because, as the filmmaker put it, they thought the Predator franchise had gone astray with the Alien vs. Predator movies. Rodriguez said Fox is letting him make the movie his way at his Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas, and that his '94 script will be the basis for it. K&B are already doing effects work on it for a 2010 release. The next project that Rodriguez will helm will be Machete, based on the faux trailer he did for Grindhouse. That will start filming in the next few weeks. He recalled how he and Danny Trejo have actually been kicking the idea around since 1993. Rodriguez promised fans that Machete will be as good or better than the mock trailer, "out of control," "crazy" and "a lot of fun." Rodriguez said his dance card for the next year is full so don't expect Sin City 2 to go before cameras for at least another year. Nightmare On Elm Street Remake: The folks over at Platinum Dunes unveiled a brief Comic-Con trailer today for the upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. The trailer, no more than two or three minutes in length, demonstrates a clear return to the dark, terrifying roots of the series and a clear relationship to the tone of the original. After a brief depiction of the burning of the iconic character in which Freddy Krueger is show being chased through an industrial part of town toward the boiler room which will hold his fate -- all the while screaming, "What do you think I did?" -- Jackie Earle Haley is shown as the Freddy that fans remember -- brutal and relentless. The tone of the nightmares is decidedly surreal and creepy -- featuring some first-rate imagery and a great throwback to the first film's bodybag sequence. While the make-up isn't shown in tremendous detail, the posture, voice and performance all indicate that fans should be very pleased with the casting when the film releases next April. Roger Rabbit 2 a possibility  At the end of Zemeckis' first trip to Comic-Con, where he presented some very impressive 3D footage from A Christmas Carol, the director discussed the possible return of a popular 2D character, Roger Rabbit. Following the clip screening, during the Q & A, Zemeckis was asked if he plans to revisit Toontown for a sequel. "I can neither confirm nor deny", he said, three times, each time with more of a wink in his voice. He then clarified that, "if it [the sequel]ever does happen, the 2D animated characters will remain in 2D" animation, but other components might be in 3D. Thank you, Comic-Con. Well done. What say you about more Jessica Rabbit in 2D? Sound off (but keep it PG-13, guys, in the Comments.) Avatar Revealed: James Cameron only had two questions for Comic-Con before he unleashed our first look at Avatar: "Have you ever wanted to take a trip to another planet?" (Yes, so say we all.) "And are you ready to go to Pandora?" With that, 25 minutes of Avatar in 3D played, and it surpassed all expectations and anything the guy who gave us Terminator 2 has ever done. What Cameron has done with CGI and performance capture, and making it look photo-real in 3D, is akin to what Miyazaki has done with animation. Fox honcho Tom Rothman introduced Cameron to the Hall H crowd, and Cameron cut to the chase, saying, "you're here to see cool stuff" and cool stuff is exactly what we saw. Cameron addressed the environmental and political messages that run through Avatar's story, comparing the Na'vi's eco-minded ways rebelling against the human's war-mongering practices to current world events. But the clips we saw weren't preachy, which isn't to say that the movie may not, at times, drift into a $240 million Inconvenient Truth. We don't know yet. These 25 minutes revealed a film endeavoring to find a solid balance between message movie and epic, Cameron-ized entertainment. We could get Aliens, or we could get The Abyss, which is a win-win compared to the recent onslaught of sequels and remakes. One member of the Hall H crowd thanked Cameron at the Q & A for giving us, finally, a truly original idea. Whatever Avatar ultimately ends up being, it will be something that no one has ever seen before. It will be a film four years in the making and 14 years in the planning. It will be something that tells us, definitively, that the only limit to imagination is that there isn't one. I cut out the spoilers from Avatar (theres a LOT of them) that was in the article unless people want me to post them... Anyway more to come and feel free to post any movie news you get from SDCC :)
July 25, 200915 yr Next Batman shooting next year - from Gary Oldman i'm not gonna post all SDCC news i see in here, it would take me hours.
July 25, 200915 yr Well, I'm certainly glad to hear that we may be getting a proper third Predator film.... The 'Aliens Vs Predator' films were utter sh!te..... Of course, if they'd actually followed the storylines from the Dark Horse comics, as opposed to letting Paul W(anker) S(meghead) Anderson practically ruin both franchises, the films would probably have been pretty decent....
July 28, 200915 yr Author "300" Sequel Coming... Zack Snyder told IGN that the sequel to his blockbuster historical epic 300 will be based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller, just like the original. In a video interview at a hotel near the convention center where Comic-Con is still going strong, Snyder said that rather than going directly to script form, he is waiting for Miller to create the next iteration of the history of the Spartans before he begins production on the next film. As for what story the next installment in what appears to be a budding franchise will tell, Snyder said that there's still a lot of history to draw inspiration from. Although King Leonidas (portrayed in 300 by Gerard Butler) perished with his soldiers at the battle of Thermopylae in the first film, the director didn't rule out the possibility that Butler will return in some form for the sequel.
July 29, 200915 yr How can you actually even have a sequel to "300" anyway...... exactly. Frank is just gonna embassas himself again Spirit-style. I think he should go back to comic books, he hardly went wrong there.
July 29, 200915 yr Frank is just gonna embassas himself again Spirit-style. The Spirit - probably one of the worst films of the year.... Bloody awful stuff that was, I dont know anyone who had anything good to say about it..... I think Miller's really lost it big time tbh.... Dark Knight Returns, Sin City, Daredevil, Ronin, Give Me Liberty, etc, are all seeming like a VERY long time ago now......
