He sure is. Thanks suggy, was beginning to think I was invisible on Devoted.

Review

Sunday was a blissed out affair in the Castle Field as Horace Andy brought an authentic roots reggae sound to the relaxed crowd. Trojan Soundsystem continued the reggae stylings but with far more energy, while Dub Pistols got everyone on their feet with a schizophrenic rap/reggae/ska/funk set. Will Young followed shortly after. Storming onto the stage in a ringmasters red coat and top hat, he performed new tracks including Grace and Changes, joking in between about how painful his boots were. The rain was dribbling down, but the crowd remained loyal, with some viewers watching from as far back as the Castle.

Thanks Sunday

I read on Devoted he had the biggest crowd of the festival. :cheer:

That's brilliant

Thanks Sunday. This seems to be the only mention of him that I can find - apart from this found by Janet on Devoted

10. Ahem, Will Young (well, we had to take a look didn't we and he was actually rather good. plus we got to watch from the side of the stage and feel all important looking out over the biggest crowd of the weekend. [Oh, please. Ed])

Of course he was - why wouldn't he be ^_^ . It really does p*** them off doesn't it.

Absolutely. I was just saying over the road that it saddens me that someone who can singlehandedly pull in a crowd of 10,000 at one outdoor concert barely gets a mention at another where their total for their three days was 15,000 and a huge line-up, where he once again had the biggest crowd of the weekend .

Edit: Julie on D has found some great feedback - this is just a little: :D :D

There's not that much that's been written in the press about Camp Bestival (been searching!) and that which has has concentrated on Saturday night and the 'cool' acts.

Been on the Bestival site-not one negative comment about Will and many have named him as a highlight-here's some of them:

From a thread called -"Who got the biggest crowd?" First post is from the guy starting the thread and the other post is from another guy-hence the 'camp' comment but still proves how Will is changing perceptions-they may find it difficult to admit but here they are posting that they loved his set!

Quote:

From my own observations, I'd say it was Will Young?! I was pretty surprised.

Not a huge fan of the Willie, but I love his set! "Camp" Bestival it certainly was for that 45 minutes lol

Just why oh why are they so surprised. If Will wasn't any good then he wouldn't still be around.

The good thing about it is that despite their hesitancy in "taking a look", they actually admit they enjoyed the set.

Thanks to Bumbling. From Virtual Festivals.

Kids, adults and the inbetweenies gather for the tea-time headliner Will Young, who, in ringmasters coat and top-hat prances onto stage and starts a typically jolly and note-perfect set, complete with circus drum "tada's" punctuating his 'humorous' anecdotes - "a grown up, 'fit' Mr. Tumble" remarks a fan near the front. When you can sing this well you can get away with the cheesy.

Thanks for the info he really has impressed a lot of people over the past 12 months
Sharing the bonkers bill was Florence and the Machine, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Mercury Rev, Tinchy Stryder and Candi Staton (Young Hearts Run Free – 1970s). But perhaps the most surreal meeting of mics was fluffy popster Will Young one day and Dorset’s resident recluse PJ Harvey another playing to the same crowds – and getting the same enthusiastic response.

Thanks Sunday. Not sure about the 'fluffy popster' but they did acknowledge how well he was received.

Camp Bestival Sunday highlightsRob Da Bank's newest came to a close all too soon on Sunday night, there were some outstanding performances throughout the day - Will Young drew a massive crowd as his unique voice filled the castle grounds, the English National Ballet brought a touch of class to the young and not so young with two chances to see them in action. Candi Staton belted it out in style and Chic had the whole of Camp Bestival dancing with an awesome set that contained hit after hit.

Rob himself gave out a truly eclectic closing set on the main stage as the English National Ballet danced their way through a set that ended all too soon, Camp Bestival then ended with the most awesome firework display we've seen - impressive and awesome.

Full review and images coming very soon...

Hi all! Just catching up with this thread - there's some great quotes I'd not seen! :yahoo:

Pleased to see that he's had some really good comments, thoroughly deserved too from what I saw myself. The 45 minutes whizzed by in a haze of perfect singing and great stage presence..

Not jealous http://bestsmileys.com/kick/2.gif

Despite the wet, sprits were still high, no more so than mine as Will Young was due up – yes I know, bang goes any tiny bit of street cred I might have. I’ve never hidden the fact that I’m a fan, but by the size of his audience, a huge amount came out of the closet for him today. With by far the biggest crowd of Camp Bestival, even in the downpour, he clearly misinterpreted the camp theme, bouncing out in military tunic and top hat – but blew everyone away with his astounding voice and easy going manner.
