Robbie Williams and Whitney Houston 'to step in for Michael Jackson at O2'

By Matthew Moore

Published: 7:00AM BST 31 Jul 2009

The promoters AEG hope that both stars will launch their comeback tours at the 20,000 venue in Greenwich, south east London.

They have reportedly been pencilled in for dates in January, February and March next year – when Jackson was due to perform the second batch of shows in his 50-date residency.

AEG refunded all tickets after the King of Pop's death last month and faced a bill of up to £300 million for the cancelled concerts.

Yesterday a source at the US entertainment giant indicated that Williams and Houston were ready to step in.

"Robbie's eagerly-awaited album will be out soon and he is likely to be touring Europe next year. It will be perfect for him to start with shows at the O2," they told the Evening Standard.

"Whitney Houston has been on our wish-list for a while – she has the voice and the hits to sell the arena out several times over."

Former Take That member Williams has amassed a fortune estimated at around £80 million thanks to solo albums including Life Thru a Lens, I've Been Expecting You and Sing When You're Winning.

Soul singer Houston is the voice behind I Will Always Love You, one of the best-selling singles in history.

Publicists for the two singers declined to comment.

TAKE THAT BATTLE ROBBIE

3rd August 2009

TAKE That look set to battle Robbie Williams and challenge the singer’s Knebworth three-nighter residency.

Knebworth House owner Henry Lytton Cobbold – whose grounds have just hosted Sonisphere – challenged my fave manband to nab the record set by the Robster, 35, in 2003.

He said: “Robbie filled the place for three nights and smashed all box office records. We reckon Take That should do four nights.

“It would mark them out as the biggest UK pop group of all time.”

(Errr, The Beatles? The Stones? Queen? Showaddywaddy? :P )

  you forgot Bay City Rollers and The Osmonds

I listened to some of the Sonisphere concert yesterday standing in my garden,

whilst my son was there head banging with the rest of the crowd

Can't wait to hear TT do their 4 nights  ;)

The Osmonds were American. Otherwise they would obviously have made my List. -_-

Speaking of TT.

I just realised tonight why I've never really liked them. The first time around I was too old for them. I was late 20s. They were teenagers. It didn't seem right somehow. I liked U2 and the Chili Peppers. :P

The weird thing is second time around I now feel too young for them. Not age wise obviously but music wise. Their music seems too old for me. Too safe. Does that make sense?

Me and TT have crossed over somewhere in the middle. They are maturing. I'm regressing.

 yeah that makes perfect sense.

Could be that your music taste has just changed over the years though.

Mine certainly has.

I'm not sure it has really. U2 were my favourite band at age 15. They still are.

I think I prefer rock to pop actually. Even with Robbie, I prefer his rockier stuff like Karma Killer :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

I am more into The Killers,Rob Thomas,U2 , & some kick ass stuff like Robbie does...his Life Thru a Lens & Sing Whe Your Winning for me were brill ... B)

You would have to tie me to the floor & torture me to make me listen to The Osmonds or Take That & the same could be said for Daniel O' Donnell... <_<
