Posted August 5, 200915 yr Bc7nr5mtuBc Exciteddd. Should be incredibly intense viewing. The book is devastating. Plus Peter Jackson is an amazing directors (Heavenly Creatures <3). Comes out in December in the US.
August 6, 200915 yr Love the use of Cocteau Twins' Alice in the trailer. Looks pretty damn fantastic. The Visuals...whoa! But I wish Ryan Gosling was still playing the father. I don't care that he's young, I think he's a more solid actor than Marky Mark. Rachel Weisz (love her) looks good and Sarandon does too
August 12, 200915 yr Author Sorry, trailer in the first post got deleted. </3 New one: kWyNYxGZonI The girl who plays Salmon looks amazeee. I hate Marky Mark though. I'll get over it I suppose, though, because quite frankly this look epiccc.
August 12, 200915 yr This looks pure fantazm. Although I've never read the book. I'm going to buy it this weekend and crack on with that badboy.
August 17, 200915 yr So because of this thread, I popped into Waterstones with my other half the other day to buy the book. I searched it on their computer system, and whilst doing so just mumbled "the lovely boner puhleeaz", mainly because I chat bumbreeze. The system only shows whether a particular book's in stock or not, not where it's located in the shop. I get shy, so forced my boyfriend to ask a member of staff where it is, he totes just bellowed out "EXCUSE ME, HAVE YOU GOT THE LOVELY BONER?" It was f***ing 'zing.
March 1, 201015 yr Despite the frankly awful reviews this recieved, I quite enjoyed it. It was a bit messy in parts (especially the scene where it it turned into a comedy with about 3 minutes when Susan Saranden appeared which did not fit in), and some of the CGI was OTT which is a shame as Peter Jackson usually gets the perfect blend imo, but overall I felt it was a well made film with some outstanding performances, especially Stanley Tucci who was excellent as the serial killer. I could not believe that was the same guy who played Meryl Streep's husband in Julie and Julia :o The supense in the scene where Samon's younger sister broke into his house was fantastic. And of course Saoirse Ronan proves once again she is easily going to be one of the top acctresses in Hollywood sooner rather than later... she deserved a Best Actress nod for this ... a far stonger performance then the one she was actually nominated for in Atonement Edited March 1, 201015 yr by Jack Bauer
March 1, 201015 yr I must admit the book is so much better, its so different from the book, they have added more than the book. Its best to read the book first.
March 1, 201015 yr I don't agree in all cases, as had I read the book first I would'nt have enjoyed it as much...it's the same with the majority of films made from books. It is strange though that you say they added more than is in the book....it is usually the opposite with loads of key parts being left out. A friend of mine who read the book said the ending was crap and wasnt satisfying, whereas the film's ending was, even if done in a bit of a pointless way. Most of the time films made from books tend to be a let down due to us coming up with our own ideas about certain aspects of the book, only for the film to make it very different or miss out important parts. 'The Road' I felt did the book justice, and although miss out some key parts, was a very powerful and excellent film overall. I'd be interested in hearing Cormac McCarthy view on the film. Btw back to the Lovley Bones...just how on EARTH was this rated 12PG? It is totally inappropriot in so many ways for any 12 year old to see it...some of the scenes are quite distrurbing to say the least. It should most definatly be '15'... to think bloody Kindergarten Cop was 15's. I mean who comes up with this crap anyway? Most of the time they have films rated to highly, especially 18, but they are way off with this one. I mean what parent would want to bring their 12 year old kid to see a film about a serial killer paedophile?
March 2, 201015 yr I found this to be a deeply unsatisfying, and ultimately pointless two and quarter hours tbh... And it really had no right to be, the concept itself is a good one, the execution just left a hell of a lot to be desired, "Heavenly Creatures" this most definitely was not, that was brilliantly realised, perfect film in every way, in short, it was everything The Lovely Bones isn't... I've not read the book, but frankly I cant see it being quite this dramatically unsatisfying and pointless, I believe it has to be down to bad scripting.... The CGI I felt was intrusive and completely overdone, and really quite inappropriate in many ways... As for the ending... WTF??? I mean, the sister has just found the evidence to nail the creep in what is probably the best and most nail-biting sequence of the whole film, and all of a sudden it just STALLS and the head of steam that's built up just totally deflates..... And there really was never any proper motivation as to why the mother left the home either.. She left for whatever reason, picked fruit for a bit and then suddenly came back.....WTF??? This is an utterly infuriating film because there was the germ of a good film here, there is a real story to be told, but like I say, the execution of the story is poor... Oh, and Mark Wahlberg.....?? Just what the fukk IS the point of this useless, talentless tosser....? Has he ever put in a convincing performance at any stage of his "acting" career....? This extract from a review in IMDb puts it better than I can (apart from the bit where he says Mark Wahlberg is a "great actor" LOL)... There is no emotion or common sense thanks to the editorial tapering and when the film takes a nose dive into some misguided quest for a murder mystery, its done so poorly that you end up thinking on what was the real point of the whole film to begins with. Great actors like Rachel Weisz, Saoirse Ronan, Stanley Tucci, Mark Wahlberg and Susan Sarandon are left to twist in the wind while Peter Jackson tries to make up his mind on what he really wants from them and the horrible script he has for them to work with. After seeing this film, you can see that Peter Jackson abused the trust his actors had in him and in turn, he abused the trust of the viewer, who believed that he had the right intentions in mind when he was making this movie, while all along, he showed that he really was the wrong person to be put in charged of this project and the film suffers because of it. The over indulgence of visual effects used in this film speaks volumes on where the director's head was during the making of this movie and its not a place where reality and emotional truths live.
March 2, 201015 yr Oh, and Mark Wahlberg.....?? Just what the fukk IS the point of this useless, talentless tosser....? Has he ever put in a convincing performance at any stage of his "acting" career....? Yep, he has - in 'The Departed' - I even recall you praising his performance in it, saying how suprised you were at him acting Leo off the screen. :P Generally though he is in $h!t films.
March 2, 201015 yr Yep, he has - in 'The Departed' - I even recall you praising his performance in it, saying how suprised you were at him acting Leo off the screen. :P Generally though he is in $h!t films. Okay, in 'The Departed' he's not exactly required to do very much except scowl and snarl, that's first off... :P And secondly, it kind of proves a theory that I've had for a long time, that a great director can get a good performance out of the most unlikely of sources... I should have been praising Scorcese's talent as a director to get a good performance out of a crap actor like Wahlberg than actually praising Wahlberg's questionable abilities....... Doesn't say much for M Knight Shyamalan or Pete Jackson that neither of them could get a non-wooden performance out of him though does it.....
March 4, 201015 yr I quite liked this! Although i felt like the issues brought up had been watered down... Now seeing that this is a 12 i can see why... At the end of the film i felt like if we saw more of the rape/murder then it could have made the film a bit more tense (without sounding too perverted)... But i dunno i liked it, but i think it was too centered around the aftermath instead of setting up Suzie's character. Which is kinda why i failed to sympathize with Suzie's character.. Obviously i was shocked but i felt like they dragged out the Family' closure of her death. (I apologize if this didnt make any sense at all)
March 5, 201015 yr Quite honestly this movie was pretty weak...However I didnt read the book so maybe that was the issue..Be sure to check out Shutter Island though. Definitely worth the 11bucks
March 5, 201015 yr I quite liked this! Although i felt like the issues brought up had been watered down... Now seeing that this is a 12 i can see why... That's the whole problem with it, it IS watered down.. And it's really quite unbelievable that coming from the guy who did such a marvellous job of getting us into the heads of two girls who murdered one's mother and making us understand and even empathise with them in "Heavenly Creatures", that he then fails miserably to get us properly into the head of a young girl who's been a murder victim... I honestly wonder whether there are actually two Peter Jacksons out there after seeing this film, because the Peter Jackson who did "Heavenly Creatures" would surely never have made something as trite, dishonest, watered down and inconsequential as "The Lovely Bones"....
March 14, 201114 yr Well I just saw this (v belated I know) but I thought it was absolutely brilliant. Amazing performances from Stanley Tucci (I still cannot believe it was him - I didn't even realise until I saw his name on the credits), Susan Sarandon (I wildly disagree that she didn't fit in the film) and both Salmon sisters. It's such a trippy film in parts but I thought it transitioned really well from the CGI heaven stuff to the real-life stuff. Loved it.
March 14, 201114 yr This film let me down. I read the book several months before and it didn;t stay true to the book at all. I was majorly let down. I didn't feel sad the girl died. I didn't feel sorry for her family. I felt no emotion at all. The film lacked life despite being about death. Susan sarandon was totally mis cast in her part.
March 15, 201114 yr Susan Sarandon was AMAZING and brought some much needed light relief. Plus she looked phenomenal. I want to know what Ben thought of the film in the end.
March 16, 201114 yr Author This movie was so disappointing, especially compared to the marvelous trailer. Just gonna pretend that's the whole movie.
