May 24, 201015 yr Best television i've quite possibly ever witnessed. It was all so beautifully written and directed, and I thought everything came together quite nicely. I pretty much just sat in a stunned silence at the end of it, couldn't really think of anything to say  But yes, i'm gutted it's all over but all good things come to an end. Like Roo, i'd have liked to have seen more of Ben and Hurley as the island's protectors but nevermind. They only had the 2 hours to work with, they couldn't include everything. Brilliant finale to a thoroughly enjoyable series.
May 24, 201015 yr Right i'll deal with the island stuff first and then the sideways stuff. The island stuff was very well executed. There were a few little moments of 'wtf' e.g. Ben being stuck under a tree, and then magically reappearing on the cliffside! I thought the Jack and Locke final battle was a bit of an anti-climax, although in the end both characters were the end of each other. I guess Jacob referring to the cork was actually literal. I think Desmond believed he would die when he pulled out the cork, but he didn't. If you think about it, Desmond had known he was going to die at some point as he did say to Locke "none of it matters anymore". He'd already accepted his fate and knew he was going on to a better place. I thought it was a bit odd how Richard, Frank, Miles, Kate, Sawyer and Claire all left the island, presumabley to lead out the rest of their lives. I didn't see the Jack twist coming either, that it was never meant to be him - it was always meant to be Hurley. Ben being asked to be his adviser, sort of gave closure to his character and acted as a final redemption. I'd have liked to have known how long the two of them had been protectors of the island for, although I guess we're just meant to assume a long time. Now onto the sideways stuff. It was beautifully played out aside from one moment of ABSOLUTE CHEESE from Sayid and Shannon. The Jin & Sun, and Claire & Charlie realisation moments were fantastic. Locke's was also beautifully written when he wriggled he toes like he did in the Pilot. I guess David was not real at all. He was a figure of imagination Jack had conjured up in order to block out his father issues. That scene where Jack "wakes-up" is hands down my favourite scene of the entire show. It was magical. It was Jack who had the hardest time letting go, and it was played out just as he was dying in real time. All of the Oceanic815 members were ready to move on to the next life, as they'd found what was special to them and that was all that was needed. The final Locke & Ben scene was also just brilliant. Locke had accepted Ben's jealously and he had finally realised why Ben had killed him when he was alive. I thought it was touching that Ben was not ready to move on yet - he still had to redeem himself more. Elouise Hawking must have known like Desmond that she was in purgatory. Characters like Ana-Lucia, Miles, Daniel, Charlotte etc. were not ready to move on yet, which is why they did not enter the church. I guess it explains Michael's absense from the purgatory aswell - he was still stuck on the island. I'd have liked to have seen Walt, as I know for a fact that he had filmed a scene, but I guess it wasn't neccessary, otherwise it would have been incluced in the finale. Poetic. Lol I forgot about Ben being stuck under that tree, good old continuity errors. I dont think Ben becoming the number 2 was his final act of redemption, I think quite clearly he is going to give Alex a great life in the alt universe before he finally moves on, then he has finally found redemption. I'd love to know more about Elouise, she clearly knew she was dead, but was she, she was also very special in the original timeline, she knew exactly where she was, i'd love to know what was so special about her. Interesting Walt did have a scene, im sure we will see it sometime. Wow great final, the scene with Jack and Locke were fighting it out was brilliant executed, and when Locke's reaction when Jack threw the first fist, and tasted blood, he knew the game was up instantly, it was priceless to watch. Finding each other was emotional, like when Charlie finds Claire. Oh and when did Richard lost his powers I didn't see that getting explained, because when Miles plucked his grey hair and show it to Richard, he was a bit clueless. In the end to sum up all the whole series, I'm glad it found closure, it sort of tied everything up. The only thing I did not understand Juliet was Jack's wife, and then Sawyer and Juliet started snogging their faces off. as rooney sort of said, i'm pretty sure Richard losing his powers was because the cork was taken out, just how it made Locke mortal, but who knows, maybe when Jack put the cork back in, it made Richard the power to never die again.
May 24, 201015 yr I did wonder why Ben didn't enter the church was he still in purgatory, or still protecting the island as he is immortal now.
May 24, 201015 yr I think why Ben didnt enter the church was left open, I personally think he wanted to continue as a father figure to Alex to make up for letting her die.
May 24, 201015 yr i'm rewatching the end right now, Richard's grey hair was before the cork was pulled out, maybe with Jacob's death his agelessness disappears?
May 24, 201015 yr Author i'm rewatching the end right now, Richard's grey hair was before the cork was pulled out, maybe with Jacob's death his agelessness disappears? Yeah I think it signifies Jacob's reign as island leader is over. I can watch that final 10 minutes of the show over and over again. Everything about it is so beautiful. Locke was probably my favourite character throughout the show and I was annoyed he didn't get closure. But he actually did. He doubts whether he was ever special and that handshake with Jack at the end just brings a smile to my face. Both characters are finally at peace with one another after everything they went through on the island. I always wondered what the ending would be, and i'm delighted that it's not something I hate. The actual last shot with Jack was the ending of his actual life, but even though the characters moved-on, that wasn't the end for them, it's just the beginning. It reminds me of the Narnia books, as there's a place than they're already in, and the characters have just got to reach that place.
May 24, 201015 yr yeah looking back John was probaly my favourite and definatly one of the most important characters by far in the show. I love it when Jack went ape$h!t at Flocke like "You are not John Locke, you disrespect him by using his body, and he was right all along".

I love it when Jack went ape$h!t at Flocke like "You are not John Locke, you disrespect him by using his body, and he was right all along". Well it just shows how much he'd come on as a character, he was a man of science when his eyes opened on the island, and when he died on the island he was a man of faith. I don't actually think John was important or special at all. It was just he believed he was special on the island. He believed in the island though. I wish they'd never used Terry O'Quinn as MiB though, it sort of ruins the character of John Locke... Big viewing figures for the show as well, 20.5 million was the peak audience!
May 25, 201015 yr It's interesting how last seconds worth! It's amazing. I have read many comments, people are angry, people are satisfied... I didn't expect that. I actually don't know what I expected... But, I'm pretty sure there isn't the better way to end it, then closing the circle from the beginning, from the first scene. Jack died then. Everybody (in plane 316 died later), but the point is that they are later at the same place. And, to me it's also interesting how everybody was in that church, and Ben said that he'll stay out. Is he still alive?
May 25, 201015 yr Its so amazing They are all together.I cant believe that it is over.I used to watch every week.OMG......so upset LOST FOREVER!
May 25, 201015 yr I admit I stopped paying attention to this season and some of last due to being a bit less interested in the show and overall and being more busy. But my mom would always fill me in when I got home about what was going on. I did tune in for the finale on Sunday and I really enjoyed it! I thought it was very well done. A great end to the series! And even though I haven't watched it properly in quite a while it was still a bit sad realizing it was finally done. Oh, and I quite enjoyed the Lost special and cast reunion on Jimmy Kimmel Live they aired right after. It was quite amusing and interesting to see them talk about the series.

I think John Locke is very very important, as his importance lies in Jack, Jack who came to the island would never of been "the new Jacob" it wouldnt of been him who kills MiB (well Kate sort of killed him but still) and it wouldnt of been him who turned the island back on, he wouldnt of done it if it wasnt for John. I do sort of think John was special (but only on the island), in the final alt universe shot where we see all the characters sat down, the only one who isnt in a couple is John Locke and someone had read into that, that he was with the island,. I agree with it being a shame they had Terry O'Quinn using MiB's body, although it does show how amazing an actor he is (I genuinly saw him as a whole different character this season) but I agree it ruin's John Locke's character, although I do love how we were led on at the end of last season thinking it was John but then found out in LA X it was MiB.
May 25, 201015 yr f***ing hell. I'm gonna miss this show so so so so so much. Brilliant finale! So glad they all got back together. Looks like the alternate reality and flashbacks weren't in vane  I don't know if it's been mentioned here or anywhere on the internet but i figured out what 'Lost' actually means. Of course, it wasn't about they got lost in the world stuck on that island, it was they lost something/someone. The things that brought their memories back were all things that they lost. Hurley - Libey (sp?); Claire - Charlie; Jack - his father; Sawyer - Juliet, etc. There're some quite not that obvious moments about that such as Locke's 'loss' but i'm sure it could be thought out and some stuff like 'faith' will surface as the answer lolz. Again, sorry if it's been already mentioned or anything but i'm terrible at seeing actual sense and the main idea in shows so that's quite an acievement for me ha! I'm so going to rewatch it this summer. I am sure as hell i will be spotting things i've never noticed before, such as when Jack and Kate found that couple of people's skeletons with two stones, that was new to me  <3
May 25, 201015 yr Author There's an article from a guy who claims to work at Bad Robot, who has basically said the last 10 minutes was always how it was going to be. It makes me wonder IF it's true that perhaps they were going to end the show with the characters in purgatory, and the island was a chance for them to move on, and once they'd redeemed themselves they were able to die. They say that's the real reason why Ben wasn't in the church and why it's primarily most of the Season 1 characters (aside from Juliet, Libby and Penny). A few people I know, actually think they were always in purgatory and that's why they showed the wreckage of the plane at the end as they all died on the plane. Don't buy that for a second, I think the island events did happen.
May 25, 201015 yr Yeah I thought it was OK but feel slightly let down that the ending was pretty straightforward and rather cliched. The creators had said for years that they hated alternate realities and JJ Abrams himself even rejected the purgatory theory so to then spend 50% of the final season with a purgatory narrative is a swindle. It's been an entertaining ride and has had some great characters and plot twists but then just seems to have taken the final chapter from any number of similar films and shows. Angel Heart, Jacob's Ladder et al have been there and done that and I expected something cleverer and more imaginative and I think the audience who have stuck with it over 6 years of sometimes wilfully nonsensical and arguably arbitrary plot lines are smarter than average and deserve better. I feel like it's just been one 6 year long big cock tease with nothing more than a half arsed hand job at the end. That said it has been a great show and I shall be starting at season 1 again at some point soon Also would have liked Mr Eko to have appeared somewhere Edited May 25, 201015 yr by Severin
May 25, 201015 yr Author I still don't think the purgatory thing is a let-down though. Techincally they did not enter purgatory until the died island-time. The purgatory thing offered great resolution to the characters, it did generally mean they lived happily ever after. They all realised they needed love, and the best time of their lives were on the island TOGETHER. I can see why some people are a little annoyed, but personally for me I thought it was brilliant. It just tied up everything nicely, and even in death the characters were all still meant to be apart of each other's lives.
May 25, 201015 yr The purgatory thing does wrap up the ending in a nice Spielberg-esque sugary coating and it works as a narrative device but it's just so easy and not a little bit hokey.
May 25, 201015 yr I thought the whole thing was a bit more Steven King-esque than Speilberg myself but can see both of their influcence in the whole thing in terms of the storytelling. Overall I loved the final - although I can see why so many people are annoyed. But I felt it was done very well, especially the actual sideaways being purgatory and not the events on the Island itself, as that was always what many thought. A few people have complained that surely in those who got off the Island remainly life they met other very important people in their life that would also go to purgatory as well? Such as their possible children etc? You can spend years analysing the whole thing though - I am going to watch the Jimmie Kimmel special with the cast and then 'The Final Journy'. :D It's very sad it's all over now though - it was a truly amazing show and with I am sure have a lasting impact on how TV shows are made. I hope there are no spin off as they are bound to be a disaster - someone on DS joked about a possible Cop buddy drama with Sawyer and Miles

I hope there are no spin off as they are bound to be a disaster - someone on DS joked about a possible Cop buddy drama with Sawyer and Miles  I know for a fact Disney wanted to do spin-offs of the show. I guess with the purgatory idea they've stopped that. I guess though we could learn about what Sawyer etc. did once they got off the island (irrelevant really, I guess we're just meant to accept they lived out their lives then died naturally) and what Hurley and Ben did with the island (irrelvant again, we know they were there for many years and got on as a duo fine). You do wonder about the Aaron, Ji-Yeon, Clementine thing, but again I think it's irrelevant and it's just nit-picking. Ji-Yeon is technically apart of Sun and Aaron is in purgatory with Claire I guess? Personally I think it's such a heart-warming ending. Yes it could be a cop-out (but it's not!), but I just love the idea that they all ended up at peace with each and realised they needed each other. It couldn't have ended in a better way. It's not hit me yet that the show is over, but I just think the ending is perfect in every way possible as even though the likes of Jack, Locke, Sayid, Sun, Jin, Libby etc. died on island, they still lead happy lives in the afterlife with the people they love. Even if people aren't religious at all (which i'm not) it just gives that warm feeling inside. Of course i'm a bit annoyed with questions like Aaaron, Walt's specialness, the numbers, the outrigger scene, Ben's GF Annie, but at the end of the days those were just mysteries put in place to keep us invested in the show and with these characters. The characters were all that mattered (to me anyway) and i'm sure I read that Darlton were going to publish a LOST encyloedia detailing the whole show, so i'd presume they'd touch upon some of those mysteries more.
