Lester William Polfuss, known as Les Paul (June 9, 1915 – August 13, 2009[1]) was an American jazz guitarist and inventor. He was a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar which "made the sound of rock and roll possible."[2] His many recording innovations included overdubbing, delay effects such as "sound on sound" and tape delay, phasing effects, and multitrack recording. He is often credited as being the 'father of modern music'.

The Les Paul is probably the most iconic guitar design, probably even moreso than the Fender Strat.... I'm pretty sure the Strat came along later than Les Paul's design anyway. It's really no exaggeration to say that Polfuss really is the father of the modern Rock/Metal sound, his inventions made it all possible... The word "genius" is so often overused these days, but in the case of Les Paul, I think it's entirely 100% warranted...

RIP Lester, you made most of the music I love possible.....

The music industry owes this guy so much. If Michael Jackson was a genius within music, then Les Paul was a god. RIP :(

:heehee: It's not like I meant to bring it up. :teresa:

A legend of the music industry, and an uncelebrated hero.

The Les Paul is the model of guitar I love most, and one of my aims in life is to own the Slash Custom Les Paul some day.

My thoughts and prayers are with Les' family and friends. RIP a true musical icon.

I dont accept that hypothesis of Jackson anyway, Jackson didn't actually create anything (not even the Moonwalk...), Jackson's success came from collaborations with other talented individuals (eg, Quincy Jones, his brothers, etc...). Les Paul created Rock/Metal (in fact, modern guitar music in general) music with his invention and his genius.... In fact I'm pretty damn sure if you look at old footage of the Jacksons performing, they're more than likely playing Les Paul's creation....

I'd even personally go as far to say that Les Paul played a major influence within modern music today. I'm sure that almost 90% of pop songs/chart music feature a guitar, or produced using overdubbing, multitrack-recordings, etc.

Absolutely.... Which is basically why I believe that Les Paul's death represents a far greater loss to modern music than Michael Jackson's tbh... Sorry if that offends peoples' sensibilities, but it happens to be a fact....

spot on

no comparison between that jackson creature and a true legend, creator, inovator

....94? a bloody good innings!

And once again, a pathetic Jackson argument ensues... LAME.

RIP to Les anyway, a real legend of the music industry.

Wasn't me that brought it up in the first place, it was Josh.... :P I was merely putting it in it's perspective.... A more appropriate comparison would've been Jimi Hendrix (being, as he was, a beneficiary of Les Paul's innovative genius)....

And once again, a pathetic Jackson argument ensues... LAME.

RIP to Les anyway, a real legend of the music industry.

oh lord...im so sick of fcukin children telling me , YES ME! (who is jackos age and has grown up with the bloke) how 'wrong' i am

the only thing 'lame' and 'pathetic' here is the overt praise that paedophile creep has by young idiots.

I think Josh is now beginning to wonder what he started.....
