A strange album chart with 7 albums by Jim Reeves, who died in July this year, in the top 20. Amazingly all 7 were in the top 20 throughout September. Another amazing thing is the remaining albums are by some of the biggest artists in the history of music....The Beatles , Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan and Cliff.

as sandie shaw scored the first of her 3 #1's the supremes became the highest new entry with their best known track (?) 'baby love' even though the (superior imho) 'where did our love go' was still riding high.

i dont know the new entries by the honeycombes, barron knights, dave clarke! or tommy quick... i should know the first 3 but i dont.

'dont bring me down' and 'google eye' were 2 excellant (but dated) tracks, very contemporary, capturing the rhythm and blues flavour of the time.

i bet you can guess whats coming! , yes, my fav new entry is the superb 'losing you' by dusty...

1964, Manfred Mann started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy', possibly the first No.1 with a nonsense song title. Also a No.1 in the UK, the song was first released by the US group The Exciters

crikey, the yanks must have been desperate!

1964, The Animals kicked off their first headlining UK tour at the ABC in Manchester with Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent and The Nashville Teens supporting.

1964, taking a day off from their British tour The Beatles go into the studio and complete the recording of six album tracks and the A-side of their next single: ‘I Feel Fine’. They also complete ‘Eight Days a Week’, ‘Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey’, ’Mr. Moonlight’, ‘I'll Follow the Sun’, ‘Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby’. ‘Rock and Roll Music’ and ‘Words of Love.’

Decca notably, but HMV and Columbia, both EMI labels, also turned them down.

The Beatles were eventually signed up with Parlophone, a small label of EMI that specialised in novelty acts, but wanted to branch out into pop music.
