I thought it would be an idea to discuss other artists who have worked with any of the Beatles, and Bowie worked briefly with John. The single "Fame" which they worked on gave him his first US #1, and its a pity they didn't work on more stuff.

Here are a few songs from David Bowie...

Imagine

Penny Lane

Mother

Fame

This is an open discussion about David Bowie's music, as a huge fan he probably did for the 1970's what the Beatles did for the 1960's.

Any other artists that worked with the Beatles can have their own topic.

Well David Bowie is my all time favourite artist.

So I could talk and talk about his work before his apparent unofficial retirement in 2004 after his near death heart attack in Germany whist touring the Reality album.

A couple more Beatles related covers of a solo John & solo George song:

Tin Machine - Working Class Hero (1989 live)

David Bowie - Try Some Buy Some (2003 live)

At first glance I though Liam Gallacher and Daman Albern had got together

I too would rate Bowie as my top rated artist, level pegging with The Beatles of course.

Another well known Beatles track from Young Americans

Obviously, that microphone David Bowie had was the same one that Paul McCartney used at Live Aid.

Althought I remembered his song "Space Oddity" from 1969, by 1972 I had forgotten who he was, until I heard his song "Changes", which was never a hit, but was actually Tony Blackburn's record of the week in early 1972 (I remember :D ), however once I had seen him on TOTP singing "Starman", that was it, I was hooked from then on. Over the years I had bought lots(by no means all) of his albums, and a few limited editions.

here are videos of his early stuff that really got me hooked for life...

Changes

Starman

Oh you pretty things

Within a few years I had Hunky Dory, The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane & Diamond Dogs. Still 4 of my favourite albums of all time.

There is no doubt in my mind that he filled the gap in popular music after the Beatles split.

No excuse needed to post some of my favourite Bowie performances:

David Bowie - Queen Bitch (Old Grey Whistle Test 1972)

I think it is clear that this song influenced The Killers on their career dfining anthem "Mr Brightside". lol:

David Bowie - 1984/Dodo (1980 Floor Show 1973)

I think it is pretty clear where Lady GaGa got most of her ideas from.

David Bowie - Young Americans (Dick Cavett Show 1974)

What a performance, featuring a young Luther Vandross on backing vocals.

I was playing Hunky Dory just last week and I noticed the similiarity to the Killers track :D .

A few more tracks that I have always liked, none of them were singles but should have been.

Suffragette City (Live Hammersmith 1973)

One of my prize possessions is the cd of his last performance as Ziggy Stardust, and his famous line " Not only is the last show of the tour, but it's the last show that we'll ever do. Thank You."

Panic In Detroit

A great live performance

Bewlay Brothers

I just love this song with its catchy hook chorus, and only he could get away with the ending :D

Three more Bowie live clips coming up, all two tracks originally featured on his Space Oddity album & another originally recorded back in 1966:

David Bowie - Space Oddity (First TV performance 1970 - Ivor Novello awards)

David Bowie - Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud (1973 Ziggy Stardust OST Hammersmith Odean)

David Bowie tells a story about the 1960s then sings Can't Help Thinking About Me (1999 Storytellers)

Thought I would put up 3 songs that he covered, I think he did a good version of them on his Pin Ups album, sometimes forgotten and underated.

Sorrow - by The Merseys

Friday on my mind - by the Easybeats

Shapes of Things - by the Yardbirds

Three live versions of tracks from his The Man Who Sold The World album:

David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World (Live Reality tour 2003)

David Bowie - The Width of a Circle (Ziggy Stardust OST 1973)

David Bowie ~ The Supermen (Live Earthling tour 1997)
