I'll have a prowl around the Scottish papers later.

I meant to say the performances have gone up in the pop stars to opera stars bit on the ITV player. I can't play it on here so I'll stick to my Dvd. A few of them are now on youtube. Danny's is of course up many many times.

I tried to edit the last post to to ask if you wanted the link to the thread, but it wouldn't let me typeanything. I'm not sure why.
thanks baytree. I read that post on DS and thought how good to see someone who is knowledgeable unlike a few kids on there who dont know what they are talking about. I hope they are not going to continue with giving Darius arias for a tenor otherwise he is not going to be able to show his voice off to its full capacity of bass baritone.

Trouble is the GBP have been fed a rich diet of tenors and think baritones are inferior. It's been quite a while since any baritones had anything in the charts.

Talking of tenors, Jonathon Anstell of G4 is doing his first musical - He's going to be playing "the Man" in a touring production of Whistle down the Wind. I'm pretty sure that's the lead role.

exactly Preston, seems somehow Darius always gets stitched up on song choices..but I suppose he started on the harders, so hopefully the song choices will only get better...unless they make him sing suprano next week, will be interesting.
Tanks, BT

and belated tanks to you for those great screen captures. They're unbelievably clear.

I did hit the 'h' in that but obviously the pc didn't notice.

I enjoyed that thread. Most took not that the singers had not had 10 yrs tuitiion as opera singers and didn't judge them as established opera singers but people who were gaining experience and learning.

I was impressed by the difference one day made. The audience were making a noise because they were told to. They were told not to during the singing but obviously forgot that. The judges saying the cheers during songs gave support to the contestants made it worse. I just wished they'd shut up.

That's the one big improvement they could make and maybe red button info about the context of the arias and English translations. I wasn't impressed with Alan Titchmarsh. I don't know why not. He looked uncomfortable.

Bring Alex James back to present with Myleene. He'd give Meat Loaf some competition too.

I think Mylene could manage very well on her own. Saw her do the lottery the other night and she was very competent. It would also save them a salary seeing as ITV are supposed to be cash strapped.

There have been a few negative things about D. It seems some take it that it's his fault that the Aria had to be transposed. I suppose if you're not a tenor your voice can't be good. It's almost as if they think it was cheating. Maybe they'll try him as a soprano next time to prove it's a fault that his range isn't suitable for that either.

It shows how different opera is to pop or musicals. There his higher range is superb but with the added power needed in opera he's a definate baritone.

More the teachers' fault for saddling him with not just a tenor aria but the one with the money notes which all the good/great tenors seem to have to have in their repertoire. They surely knew right away that they'd have to bring it down quite a way for any bass baritone. It's not cheating - he started at a point lower down but he still had to make the same stretch between the notes. They didn't change the tune in any way to accommodate him.
