I just posted a reply to this and it seems to have disappeared. Just said I was doing the bitter and twisted for him so he needn't bother.

Yeah, he's the ever dignified swan and we're the frantically paddling web feet below the surface.

I have it on record on friday and sat morning!

trouble is i am to scared to take it in whe its live, I havent stopped rewatching D's performance through to meatloafs comments, wonderful - but could hardly watch friday!! LOL

The Swan description was exactly what sprang to my mind, when seconds before he sang live, he was having a mini panic, asking for what I believe was the lyrics to be shown, then instantly re-composing and delivering an excellent performance :)

Having seen him in Chicago, GWTW and Guys and Dolls, I wasn't worried about how he would sound, just that he might forget the lyrics. After the vote closed, was the only time I worried a little, but mercifully he was announced through to this week 3rd. I would have hated for it to go down to the last 3 or worse, the final 2 :o

Darius had built those three notes into almost unsurmountable obstacles. I didn't understand that. After all he had a mike and he'd sung higher notes just as strongly in the shows. He covers his vulnerability so well that people think he's either cold or arrogant.
Singing those notes in that way was completely different. He'd also had a problem with them all the time he was rehearsing. He knows that any problem will be enlarged. I hope he's pleased with himself as he has every right to be.

Darius is the only person the GBP will never allow to be pleased with what he's done - that would be smug and arrogant but only if it's Darius.

Cheryl, Simon, Russell Brand, Wossy, Ricky Gervais, Piers,Lily Allen..................the list is endless of those who do and get more and more adulation for it.

He seemed happier with the aria choice this week. I'm not sure whether I'm feeling dread or nervous excitement.
And funnily enough I cant stand those you have mentioned apart from Piers when he is doing his documentaries. In my opinion Cheryl has got where she is with promotion promotion promotion which certain others dont get.
Meg says he seems happy with his aria for this week. It is well known but a bit worried that a certain part may get a lot of clapping along and I want to hear him not them.
I wish they'd alter the sound balance to minimise audience participation just through the actual performance.
On the dress rehearsal everyone was told to make a lot of noise but not through the performance. They did make a lot of noise but missed out the 'not during the performance' bit. Once the judges said that the cheer during the song spurred the contestant on, that was it.
well I dont mind if they scream through Danny - it made it more endurable...and more obvious that he will get their votes regardless.

I'm in two minds. In some ways it's great to hear an audience respond and complement the artist whilst they are perfoming(which is what the audience is encouraged to do). On the other hand, when the screams and squealls are so loud as to drown out the performer, it can be a real nuiscance. For me, the audience should just react genuinely to a performance, rather than being directed/encouraged by the warm up guy. At times last week, people were whooping it up at very mediocre points in some of the arias.

Just seen your post Meg, and the warm up guy was encouraging the Stars In Their Eyes type of welcome, after they had sung the first line. \that would have been fine for most of them, but some didn't do great with the first line but got a screaming response anyway. It's a shame but I guess that's what they require for live reality tv.

Not all of the audience are screamers. You can hear some shouts of Bravo! for Darius at the end of ND
