A bit of physical excercise is great when you are doing really demanding stressful things.

Yes his Italian was good first week and has got better and better according to those who know.

Imagine if he'd sung Non Piu Andrai first week.

I'm pretty sure Darius had both the voice and acting skills to perform it, pretty much as he did, on 15th January.

I reckon if he gets through to the final there are two baritone duets tracklisted on the Nessun Dorma CD which he could sing

La Ci Darem la Mano with Katherine - Italian

The Pearl Fishers Duet with Rolando - French

I am so desperate for him to get through, to perform a duet I am sure would be his dream. I owuld love to hear him duet with Rolando - hoping tre professinals dont overpower the ametuers
Please not with Katherine, she trys to drown everyone out.
She did with Rhydian and he is very powerful. She also didnt interact with him like the girl soprano did with mika last week. she did it like she was doing a solo performance for herself. I felt that was what caused rhydian not to win.
Who did win? I didn't like rhydian at all, but at least I can remember him :)
Leon won can t remember his second name and promptly disappeared.Rhydian first album went platinum and he appears to be very busy, just returned from africa helping to build a school and appears to have lots of concerts on including the albert hall. His second album is very classical and not done as well BUT this appearas to be lack of promotion, ring some bells.

Maybe each contestant will sing more than one song? Or one new one and a re-hash of previous programmes?

Which would leave the way clear for Rolando and Katherine to duet.

Leon Jackson I think. His voice really bored me on the show, as did his personality(or lack of it).

I would have thought Rhydian would have been a better competitor in PSTOS than Danny, though they may feel his fan base isn't large enough to warrant a place??? Mind you, D hasn't exactly set the music world alight these past few years either, so who knows how people were selected

Thanks for the newspaper reports.

I think Rhydian already has operatic training. Sue

One thing is clear. The Welsh look after their own and employ them as much as possible and at all the prestigious events in Wales.

Scots have traditionally always had to seek their fortune out of Scotland. That's also true in the entertainment world, otherwise performers get pigeon-holed as regional acts and ignored by the nationals and the main TV/radio networks. They're neither fish nor fowl - not trumpeted in their own land nor accepted as equals in the rest of the UK.

Rhydian would have been far too qualified for PSTOS - Quote from wikipedia =

Birmingham Conservatoire

After taking a gap year, when he taught in a small school in South Africa, Rhydian won a bursary to Birmingham City University's (then known as University of Central England) Conservatoire to study music and become a classically trained singer.[3] Director of Theatre Studies Michael Barry commented that "Rhydian was a star pupil at the Conservatoire from the very beginning."[4] Rhydian had lessons first with Adrian Clarke and then with Christine Cairns before graduating with first class honours in 2007.

He was the first singer from outside London to win the Kathleen Ferrier Society Bursary for Young Singers, beating 13 other second-year vocal students from music colleges around the UK. A panel of judges composed of internationally renowned singers remarked on his "formidable talent" and his "immediate connection with the audience". He also won the Reginald Vincent Lieder Prize and the Mario Lanza Educational Award in 2007.[5]

In his second year he was also auditioned, on Barry's recommendation, by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra's (CBSO) Musical Director Sakari Oramo. He was cast in the role of Morales in the CBSO's semi-staged performance of Carmen. Other successes include winning the Cecil Drew Oratorio Prize and securing leading roles in virtually all of the Conservatoire's major classical operas and musicals during his time as a student.[6] This included playing Charley in Merrily We Roll Along by Stephen Sondheim (June 2004, Crescent Theatre, Birmingham), and the lead role of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in the musical by Leslie Bricusse and Frank Wildhorn (June 2006, Crescent Theatre, Birmingham – directed by Michael Barry, and conducted by Ben Kennedy).[7]

His stage presence and charisma were often highlighted in reviews. His performance as Edward Kelley in Doctor Dee was noted by the Birmingham Post as charismatic, threatening and attractive. As Morales in Carmen he was noted for conveying genuine depth of masculine charisma. In Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri his commanding stage presence was again highlighted.[8]

Knowing that he would never get a prominent operatic role early in his career, he decided to try alternatives.

HOWEVER he would have been a good guest performer on Posto instead of meatloaf.

They have to do one new solo aria plus a duet (with one of the mentors?)

As I thought because Darius was declared safe second he's getting the backlash from Kym and Marcella fans.

Did they really think Marcella could buck the trend. She was bottom 2 last week and went out this week.

It will be interesting to see the vote totals if they are ever released.

yes that would be interesing

and yes there is always sour grapes from fans of people who go out.

i dont like marcellas voicetbh, she shakes somuch and has a cold hardness that just doesnt connect with the songs

less said about kyms awful pei, and with the help of a chorus boy to help disguise her notes

and bernie, well she is the best woman, but tbh, she is just not doing anything more than she did week sago, and that high note was glass shattering and shouty,

trouble s there are always more people that dislike you than like you

i really hope darius pulls an exceptional performance out of the bag next week, cos the panel are so obviously goingto go allout to sway voters towards bernie, their favourite
