There's another clip from that interview where he talks about Harry Hill using the jacket bit.

I didn't get the link though.

:)

I loved that interview. It's good to see him relaxed and laughing. He's right though, 'Colourblind' just shouldn't be sang operatically.

Second time I've tried to post this. I only realised it hadn't gone through a few minutes ago.

Thanks for all those links, really enjoyed them. I loved him reciting Daffodils. We had to learn it by heart at school and it's one of the few things which have stuck. Sue
I wasn't worrying about tonight until I watched Alan Titmarsh's biased interview. I wont be watching him again - uinless D was on. Nor would I tune into anything he was connected with. Not only am I know worrying and have lost that feeling of anticipation, I just feel that something will be put in the way to prevent him winning. I bet LLB's remark is on the VT for Darius this week.
supportig darius has always been hard, i feel sick already, all i can do is vote nonstop, and hope the negative treatment makes people vote for him more,if t wasnt for the otig, tis would have been a joy to watch, i feel as if i cannot take anymore of darius being judged, and people so obviously having no intentiono f letting him win if they have a say

Singer Darius Campbell falls victim to radio prankster posing as Billy Connolly

Feb 19 2010 Exclusive by Lachlan Mackinnon

POP star Darius Campbell fell hook, line and sinker for a radio prankster posing as Billy Connolly.

Funnyman Des McLean got Darius on the phone and pretended he was the Big Yin wishing him luck in tonight's final of ITV's Popstar To Operastar.

And trusting Darius gushed: "I'm talking to a legend. It's such a privilege to meet you."

The penny failed to drop for Darius as "Billy" subjected him to several minutes of outrageous ribbing.

He asked the former Pop Idol contestant if he was "the wee cheesy fellow who did the Britney Spears".

Then he urged Darius to get the better of fellow Popstar To Operastar finalist Bernadette Nolan and win the contest for Scotland.

Des told Darius: "Think of the shame of getting beat off someone who sings I'm In The Mood For Dancing.

"Just remember the end of Braveheart and think, 'If I can do this for Scotland'.

"We've not had a lot to shout about recently. Our football team's rubbish, the Old Firm - you could buy them now for the price of a Happy Meal.

"So now you're our last bastion - our man, Darius Campbell."

The skit, aired this morning on Clyde 1, got even cheekier as Des took the mickey out of Darius's upbringing in wealthy Bearsden, near Glasgow.

He told his victim: "This is what I love about you - the cockiness.

"You're from Bearsden. We used to go there on holiday.

"The kids in Bearsden think BMW are the first three letters of the alphabet.

"It's so posh the women don't go to the gym, they go to the James."

Darius took the merciless ribbing in his stride and told Des/Billy: "It's such a pleasure talking to you."

But then Clyde's breakfast DJ George Bowie broke the news to Darius that he'd been had.

George said: "The good news is, everyone's behind you in the final.

"The bad news is, that was Des kidding on he was Billy Connolly. He has that voice down to a T, does he not?"

Darius laughed and admitted: "He's got that voice down."

George said: "Des's Billy Connolly impersonation has fooled the likes of Sean Connery and Rod Stewart, so we were pretty confident it would work.

"Darius was a great sport about it. He's a top bloke and we'll all be voting for him in the final."

Darius

It’s no real surprise really having appeared on a singing reality TV show that former popstar Darius Campbell has confirmed that he will release his 3rd album after Popstar To Operastar.

Darius is in tonight's final of the ITV1 reality show against Bernie Nolan. The popstar has revealed that he is looking forward to "hitting the road" when the series ends.

Campbell's last studio album Live Twice was released in 2004.

“I am going to be making a record and releasing my third album. I'm looking forward to hitting the road again and it's great to be back in the UK,”... “I've spent a lot of time [in] the States and it's great to be back over here. I'm having the time of my life at the moment with this show, singing again, making news friends and working with classically trained experts.

“I'm enjoying this show so much, it will definitely influence the third album”

Darius had 5 Top.10 hits between 2002 and 2005 (Including the No.1 ‘Colorblind’) after he finished 3rd on the first series of ‘Pop Idol’.

Cue Kym Marsh’s comeback... God help us!

Its hard not to get stressed out. The timing of that prank and its content is pertinent and I remember when he was in the final of pop idol a similar article about his background etc appeared in the press on the day of the final and I felt then it was tim ed to perfection.

The thing is the real Billy Connelly wouldn't baulk at saying very similar things to anyone, so even if Darius was a bit suspicious, he wouldn't have wanted to say so.

I actually think the Clyde listeners in on the joke would have laughed along with that and especially at how far he could push it, rather than at Darius himself.

Darius could return to Scotland tomorrow and he'd be welcomed with open arms and be able to do what he loves - singing and acting - until he wants to retire.

I forgot to say that I sold a copy of Darius' book today, I have several spare copies and I thought I would take it as the show was on tonite.Anyway a lady bought it who had been watching the show and liked him so needless to say she got a lecture about voting for him and she said she would.

at least darius took it in good humour, and iam sure people would have thought he was a good sport,

to end it with everone is bhind you is no bad thing, i am sure darius didnt mind, he seems quit able to laugh at himself

Luckily he has a good sense of humour - even when he's the target. I think most would be with him.

Missed this - it may be the only written praise of Darius by LL-B. If that's what he genuinely thought, he had a very strange way of putting it over orally on the show.

Popstar to Opera Star Blog Week 4The Sunday SpaTo quote Monty Python’s Life of Brian ‘he’s not the Messiah, he’s just a very naughty boy’. If only Darius took this to heart.

He of all the popstars has the strongest conviction that success should be his. He has without doubt got an incredibly good voice and a real talent for performing. He would make a marvellously sexy Don Giovanni or a great swaggering anti-hero of 18th century big fat lush opera.

If only he would just let himself get on with the performance. I find it bemusing and rather saddening that such a gifted performer wastes so much of his rehearsal weeks with chasing his own tail and comparing himself against the other performers rather than getting on with the job in hand.

There is no doubt in my mind that he deserves to be in this week’s final but I have to say not based on his performance in the semi-finals which showed only too clearly that opera needs commitment, hours spent in rehearsal and a degree of insight to make it work.
