mm, probably explains why LLB was harsh - he thought Darius was over confident did he..thinks hes the messiah dig..so spent his time trying to bring him down a peg or two, what LLB knew about rehearsals is beyond me, of them all Darius seems to have put more into every aspect, Nolan with her 'I dont do anything" that backfired when her voice went haywire on the final night. to me she was one of those who beleived the hype of the panel, and thought winning was in the bag! Darius just as usual thought others were better than him, and just strived to take it seriously and do his best.

I think Bernie just couldn't conquer her nerves and perhaps her difficulty was partly the weight of expectation. She was the bookies odds-on favourite. Everyone thought she was a shoo-in.

Maybe GMTV revealing the results of their poll 60/40% to Bernie gave Darius a steelier determination to go for broke and raise the bar further. Who nows?

I wonder if the voting results will ever come into the public domain.

There was a real clash of programmes at 9 last night so the ratings will be interesting too.

I think new formats do take time to build a following so perhaps we will see another PSTOS. Popstars now have some idea of what they'd have to do. the eight they got this time had such spirit and heart. it was a joy to see such camaraderie again. I thought it had all but disappeared. You just have to hear Bernie's scream of delight when they announced darius as the winner.

Isn't it amazing how many people KNEW Darius would win when we know his voice and talent better than most and we were frazzled every week?

Oh and did you know the whole show was set up as a vehicle to launch Darius as an opera singer?

You could have fooled me.

Apparently John Humphries was wondering if Darius could keep it up for 3 hours , by which I presume he meant, take part in a staged operatic performance.

LMAO  If that was the case a suitable analogy would be trying to get someone to gain weight by starving them. How many times did they attempt to knock him off track or leave him in the shade throughout the series? He's just too damn good :P

Facebook message from Darius:-

OMG !! I don't know where to start really. It feels amazing to be the winner and I am so happy. I did my bit but I just could not have done this without all of you and your continued support. I thank every single one of you for picking up the phone. I love you all and will be back in touch very soon with news !! D xxxxxxxx

 Excited! Moi?

BTW they might have given him some sort of trophy. Nice of Myleene to thinkof giving him the photo as a memento.

Yes, I agree a trophy or perhaps a beautiful, engraved crystal decanter or something, just to remember the competition by. It would have made a nice end for the show after D's last performance and also would have been an excellent press shot for the papers to include in the report.

I hope the very soon is very soon and not D's very soon  LOL greedy or what! I've had six weeks of D on tv, seen the dress rehearsal and the first live show from inside the studio, and managed a brief chat with D and snapped a photo of him, but I'm still hungry for lots more :)

If I had, I'd not be facing huge bills for both telephones. And I'd have gone to see him perform.

Realradiorobin Darius booked to come on Monday's Real Breakfast Show. Any Qs? Happy to put them to him.

This will be where the John Humphries quote came from I suppose. It may be on BBC iplayer. i think you can listen to some radio programmes there.

MarkSimonJones: The Today programme on Radio 4 had a great piece on #poptoopera around 8:30am

listened to it - not that interesting IMHO. .................someone in favour of the show someone against it, usual stuff with ala of them using the word "patronising"

If the show averaged 3.5 million viewers(which must be there or there abouts) it's likely a few thousand maybe as much as tens of thousand, were opera fans, but the rest would be people like me, who wouldn't have considered watching opera on tv unless there was something of a twist, which in this case was obviously Popstars to Opera stars. Surely if only 1 person(and I am sure the will be very many more) discovers a love of opera and wants to go see it live, then this show should be viewed positively!

If the opera buffs or others who made negative comments wanted a more serious approach, they should lobby the BBC. If successful, they can produce a documentary over the 4-5 years or so it takes to become reasonably proficient(in some people's opinion) and then enjoy watching it with the other 20 to 30 thousand over on BBC3, but it will have significantly less impact/benefit to opera than this show has IMO.

My only negative regarding the show would be that some of the artists comments from the mentors were OTT, and if their performances had been made in an actual opera, it's likely they wouldn't have received a fantastic reception from a group of paying customers, who are more familiar with what's very good and what's not.

from that critic to whom rolando replied so splendidly.

He may be be trying to be sarcastic but just look at his anticipatory statement at the end.

He doesn't know Darius. Someday he may get that wish.

Depends whether Darius really wants to have a go or not, knowing how hard it is.

If he does, sometime in the future, you can be sure he'll put everything into it and he's pretty unstoppable on a roll. Mr Christianson may just have to grovel a bit like his fellow theatre critics who sneered and sniggered when Darius was chosen as Rhett.

What a load of tosh. Heres another lot - Daily star - I only bought it because it was 20p - Mike ward o n telly -

Darius's reality check in - Well done Darius Campbell. Hes finally won a reality show - his victory in fridays popstar to operastar at last making up for the letdowns hes suffered in popstar and popidol. And thank god I wasnt sure how much more of this guys pain I could take. In fact I had been feeling so sorry for him I was about to offer ITV1 an idea for a brand new contest, designed to tip the odds ridiculously in his favour. The title Popstar to Darius - searching for a singer who most conmvincingly looked, sounded, acted, breathed and if need be broke wind like Darius himself. Course he would have probably still come fifth.
