July 20, 200718 yr Nope. Chris Braide and Andrew Frampton Also Gotta Know Tonight and Stars Crash Down
July 21, 200718 yr I am loving the new introduction, now that is very much Darius!! I could read that all day
July 21, 200718 yr Yet again, he did say that he'd really try for a monthly update. We do have his story rewritten, so maybe that's it for this month.
July 21, 200718 yr  you are probably right...he has done a lot of changes recently and the Bebo site
July 21, 200718 yr It' good to see though. The pages loo fresh. It fels like something may be coming. I wont hold my breath though
July 21, 200718 yr I'm hopeful that if he stays here for a while he make some arrangements for the future as well as recording. Also, does anyone know if Matthew Marston is based in London? He's the co-writer of Devil In You.
July 21, 200718 yr He's a classical and jazz composer/singer for sure. I don't know if he writes/sings in other styles too. He had an album out in April so he may be busy.
July 21, 200718 yr I'm really not into jazz at all. I do like some things by singers like Billy Holliday though.
July 21, 200718 yr I enjoyed the jazz nights. I listen to Darius' songs all the time...if he went jazz I'm afraid I would only listen occasionally :(
July 21, 200718 yr Can I ask a question that I have wondered about for ages. Using matthew marston the co-writer of devil in you as an example, how come he and a lot of other artistes who have not been or are not likely to be in the top twenty albums, continue to put out albums without being dropped. I know a number of them have perhaps a strong fan base yet so much is made about someone from the top ten being dropped and all these other virtually unknown to me artistes, continue to get the chance to put out albums. I find it strange.Sometimes I hear on radio 2 or elsewhere about an artiste who is perhaps album of the week etc and I have never heard of them virtually.
July 21, 200718 yr Niche market. It isn't that expensive to make an album if the artist is able to do the bulk of the music him/herself. What causes the cost to rocket is putting out singles to promote the album. Videos like D's Colourblind cost a small fortune. Then there's all the people involved in drawing up a promotions campaign, designing adverts for press and TV,. There are others again who are trying to whip up as much air/TV play as possible, shuttling the artist around the country from radio/TV station to station with transport and accommodation costs for eg Darius, 3 band members, driver, radio plugger/minder - 7 people minimum. Then there are distribution costs. And that's not all I'm sure. The major record labels spend huge sums and need huge sales to recoup their outlay. The albums from people you mention get sold through independent stores often for their genre of music, direct to fans at concerts and gigs, through websites - it doesn't really matter where if the company/artist only want to make the music available and sell it and don't need/want to get into the charts. July 22, 200718 yr Thanks Baytree. I see what you are saying but for instance I sometimes hear radio 2 interviewing one of these artistes so they must think they are worth it yet they dont get general airplay and never the top ten or dropped yet the artistes who are aiming at the top ten get dropped all the time. Presumably they must make a living doing it the way you say. Its very strange.
July 22, 200718 yr Well as I said, preston, niche market. A lot of these people have been playing/singing for years in small venues and are actually very well known and respected in their field. Radio 2,3 and 4 listeners in particular may be far more aware of many of them rather than most people in the charts, other than the odd CD which they keep seeing on the supermarket shelvesand the blandest of which they buy as audio wallpaper just to give the impression they're still in touch with the modern scene. Just take an example from MT - John Barrowman. He had a very good reputation in his field, the West End, and I've no doubt he was occasionally interviewed on Radio 2 but I was blissfully unaware of him until he started to appear regularly on TV and his name came up in magazines. Then there's Dave Willetts, a stalwart of MT who's worked regularly in the WE and done umpteen tours to venues all around the country. He's released albums too. I wasn't aware of him and when his name started to come up, because he wasn't on TV, I couldn't put a face to him and erroneously thought he was a comedian.
July 24, 200718 yr Somewhere it said, that most albums released don't sell more than 1000. If that's true, I suppose it's possible without the cost of publicity, paying writers or producers to do it. On top of that, no expensive singles or vids to provide.
