Who knows, Norma?? I know it'd make an interesting read for the hardcore TT fans, to see NMS's side of things.....

I'd love him to do a book. I'm sure he's got loads of stories to tell. I can imagine that the guys would be dreading it. And for sure, the really hard core (i.e. nutters) Take That and Robbie fans will hate it!

Go for it Nigel!

Wasnt he planning to do so but there was alot of legalities to sort between take that and robbie.

At the time of the Ultimate Tour he said he was on a 'gagging order' until after it. But that was three years ago now. I honestly don't think he's as bitter about the TT experience as they are! You know what ... I'm going to come out of the closet here and say ... I actually LIKE Nigel Martin Smith ... and I think all five of those guys owe him a greater deal of gratitude than they think. Not many managers of a band that was rapidly going down the toilet would mortgage their own home in order to get them a third single!

Honestly i never liked him myself, he always seemed rude and arrogant to me, yes he did do alot for the boys but it worked both ways. He wouldnt have re mortaged his house if he honestly thought he would make no money from them. Dont get me wrong it was a great thing to do but at that stage of his own career it was make or break so that was his last chance to do well himself. I know not many people would do it, i know the Corrs manager did the same for them and it worked for them, only difference is they still get along and work together.

Smith did have his own agency (which is still going) so he hardly needed to do it. And by all accounts ... he's not an extravagant being ... I think he still only goes on holiday in the UK. He did a hell of a lot more than similar managers would have done. Certainly expendible 'boybands'.

Do you know what ... I've actually tuned in for 10 minutes to Chris Moyles ... and Robbie is without doubt one of the most boring people he's had on his show. Two minutes in and he mentioned 'self-loathing' and now he's talking inanely about pet names. Off to work now!

Norma

I missed Chris Moyles this morning but have managed to hear the song about 5 times already on the radio! It's been on all day. It's really strange because there's parts of the song that I like but there's parts that I don't. So all in all I think it's a bit meh really. It may be a grower but I expected a bit more from a 'comeback' single. I presume he was asked about TT? Might have to do that listen again thing as I'm mildly curious about the interview.

I listened to the song about three times today although I missed the Chris Moyles airing of it (got to hear a bit of the interview in to work - but missed the song). Like you ... I like bits of it ... the first 30 seconds to be precise ... but then it goes very 'meh' as you say. I'm so glad that I never fell for the 'Rob has a great voice' bit as well ... as he's proven with this even more so that he is an average singer at best. But ... I don't want to go on about Rob in the TT forum. But ... Moyles did mention Take That ... and Rob said he'd love to do something with them again ... when Chris said that he'd asked Gary the same thing and Gary (and the rest of Take That) were rather non-committal - Rob said that he didn't want to either. He was joking ... on both counts ... I don't seriously think he ever wants to do anything with them again no more than they want to with him.

Verdict on Rob's single ... I'd give it 6/10 and am relieved that it is as average as it is.

The song is all special effects - I don't think that he actually sings well on this at all and I don't know why but parts of it remind me of millenium! Anyway enough of Robbie!

Agreed! Lets banish him to the sin bin where he belongs!

Back to the hypothesis of a NMS book! What do you think he'll reveal?

Norma

Maybe that there was more to his and the person that we are not talking about anymores relationship than meets the eye! :heehee:

To be honest ... I think they've all treated NMS a bit badly! None of them would be where they were today if it wasn't for him. Gary would probably be playing northern circuits and Rob would have been doing summer seasons at Butlins. I don't know where the other three would be.

Well that's true - without him it would never have happened in the first place. There's no doubt that he worked very hard for them. But I don't think that Take That would have worked this time around if he was still managing them. They were younger then and to a certain extent they could accept him dominating their every move but that would never work now. It seems to me that his style of management was very much divide and rule (if that makes sense!) and I think that's why they seem to be so much closer this time around.

I have to say though that I did feel a bit sorry for him when Gary mentioned in his book that he was upset at the premier of the documentary when people were laughing at the jokes made at his expense. I do think that he was genuinely fond of the lads.

Do you know you're the first one I've known who agrees with me on that. I do believe he did actually like them all. To me ... he had the same affection for Gary, Mark, Rob, Howard and Jason as Brian Epstein had for John, Paul, George and Ringo. And equally had as much faith in! I am glad that Gary still does give credit where credit is due (i.e. in his book and in various interviews - Attitude, Q, etc).

I've been told to get lost from the Robbie forum because I dared to give an objective review to his single. I wouldn't mind ... I didn't say it was crap ... I just said it was 'ordinary' and given the hype I was expecting something akin to the pop equivalent of Rachmaninov! Rob fans are so easily pleased! He could fart the Birdie song and they'd think it was ACE!

My god - Rob fans can't take criticism. Even here in the Take That forum ... we criticise Take That - I'm the first to admit that Gary Barlow is an arrogant so-and-so ... but Rob fans think the sun shines out of Rob's arse! They can't see that all this time ... he's just been smoke and mirrors. Averageness surrounded by other people's talent!

Poor, deluded fools!

Norma

Now you see why I syay out of criticising anything there.....especially since I wouldn't know what the fark I'm talking about, anyhow concerning Rob's music....the only Rob music I've been exposed to is a cd someone made for me, with some of the more 'less liked' songs.....I like it, mind you, but, not enough to be so totally gaga over his stuff.....

Anyhow, back on topic, I'm definitely not any expert on NMS, so, I'm not going to say anything good, nad, or indifferent about him, other than to say, it'd be interesting to see his views on Take That, then and now....

Now you see I'm well 'ard! It comes from living in Leeds for 10 years of my life! I say what I like and I like what I bloody well say!

Biggie ... you're right to stay out of arguments. Have you ever been exposed though to any of Take That's stuff?
