I would love this to be true :D

Chances of another X Factor shambles? Slim

WHETHER you love or hate the X Factor, you can’t deny that this year’s live shows have been, to use Simon Cowell’s favourite word, incredible.

I’m not talking about the contestants; the hype surrounding them is largely an illusion. No-one will care about most of them in a few weeks’ time.

It’s the star turns that have really done the business this year. And by that I mean providing genuine talking points, water-cooler moments.

How wild were Robbie Williams’ eyes? What happened to Whitney Houston’s dress? How much of Cheryl Cole’s song did she actually sing?

And, perhaps the most feverish debate, did you think they were any good?

For the record, I thought Robbie was shambolically brilliant, like an overexcited puppy, Whitney sang like a diva but mumbled like a down-and-out and Cheryl – well, what can you say about Cheryl?

The hat looked too big, the voice sounded too small (even the pre-recorded bits). With hindsight, we probably gave her too much credit just for doing it. It shouldn’t really have been that stressful. Being a pop star is her job, after all. But she’s Cheryl. She can get away with it.

It’s rich, ridiculous entertainment. And proof that when things go wrong – or at least a bit strange – it’s far more interesting.

So where does the X Factor go from here? Well, I wouldn’t get too excited about Sunday night’s star guests if I were you.

You will do if you’re a fan of Westlife or Michael Buble, of course. It’s just that they’re so… what’s the word? Safe? Reliable?

What could possibly go wrong? Westlife will knock out a polished ballad, no doubt, all clenched fists and constipated faces, while Michael Buble, who has an extraordinary voice, will croon his way through an ordinary song. Standing ovations all round.

But short of putting a firework under Westlife’s seats for the key change, or pumping Buble full of caffeine before showtime, it’s hard to imagine either of those two adding to the shambolic scenes of the past two weeks.

They’re just too damn predictable. Sadly, unless the judges fight each other with sticks, it will give those sinister twins a clear run on creating some chaos this weekend.

It made me wonder who could genuinely follow in the footsteps of Robbie, Whitney and Cheryl to give us the crazed X Factor entertainment we’ve gotten used to.

It’s times like this you really start to miss Michael Jackson. Just imagine that, Simon. That really would be a comeback.

But we’ll have to take the pick of who we’ve got left. Amy Winehouse would be great, of course, but then again she’s already been on Strictly Come Dancing this year. That’s like working for the enemy. She’s out.

Pete Doherty? No, Simon would hate than tuneless twit.

Just imagine the intro piece though. “DONE TIME FOR BURGLARY! NUMEROUS DRINK AND DRUGS CONVICTIONS! HALF A DOZEN MINOR HITS!”

Britney Spears? Maybe, but she’s already been there, mimed that.

My suspicion is the fun’s over. We’ve been spoiled by the opening weeks. Sure, we’ll get very polished performances from the likes of Leona Lewis and Will Young but nothing to quite beat the wardrobe malfunctioning, door jamming, lip-synching, mad eyes of the first two weeks.

That said, the word is Susan Boyle is being lined up to perform live before the series is out. Maybe there’s still hope. We can dream a dream yet.

Thanks Sunday :D

I haven't given up hope of an appearance. The first 'idol' to have a (greatest) HITS, surely has to be a milestone to mark on the show. That and the fact that half of the hits were released on Simon's original label might work in favour of another appearnce this year. Fingers crossed eh

Really hope so. Thanks Sunday.

Are Ronan's releases the same dates as Will's as he's rumoured to be on. Unless he's forfeiting his spot for the Boyzone medley.

Life & Style Introducing... Chris Sweeney, a new Spike Jonze

Guy Pewsey, ES Magazine. Portrait by Sam Christmas

23.10.09

Director Chris Sweeney, 27, has just got Will Young pregnant. In the video for his new single 'Hopes & Fears', Will waddles to antenatal classes, works on his pelvic floor and gorges on jelly and cheese sandwiches.

'The song was about transformation, and I knew that a pregnant Will would be a good way to cause a stir.' It did. A leaked still from the video made the cover of a magazine.

Thanks for the latest news and updates sunday, anyone know when Boyzone are on with their tribute to Stephen? because the only other week available as a two guester before Will's release is the 8th of november, Leona is on that night, so I'm wondering if Will is going to be on the show, it'll be then with him on first and Leona on second? I think Britney is being lined up to appear again though.

Sunday are you taking it over to the O/S - we are all camped over there for the time being and I can't see it over there.

Thanks sunday! I can't make up my mind whether I'd like Will to be on there again or not. I saw LL is on 8th November.

I'm not so sure whether Michael Buble will be a safe bet - if I remember correctly when he was on before people thought he was drunk!

BTW, my Mum said Matthew Wright mentioned Will this morning on TV in an item re: ratings with the BNP guy on QT, saying he's no Will Young!

Well it says he's postponed it and 'gone away for a few days', so he'll probably start promoting again when he gets back.

That's the way it reads to me too.

'When I was seven I wanted to be'

As the government announces plans to introduce career advice for seven-year-olds, what did some of the UK's famous names want to be when they were small children?

WILL YOUNG - SINGER

Will Young has had four number ones during his career

"I wanted to be a singer. Always wanted to be a singer.

"Or a vet. Wasn't about the money, it was a passion. I love singing and I love animals.

"I'd still do it now. Maybe the new David Attenborough."

Thanks Sunday. It's great hearing in the radio interviews how passionate he is about his singing. :D

Was reading a thread on DS & found this site interesting showing which stations are playing Will's music. We should see the plays for Hopes & Fears rising this week with it being playlisted on radio 2 & added to quite a few more playlists.

Top 6 stations playing all Will tracks over the last 30 days.

Top 4 stations playing Hopes & Fears

It's interesting looking at other artists too. JLS are definitely the darlings of commercial radio. Not surprised I'm always hearing them when I'm trying to catch Will.

Thanks TT

It does not give the full picture though It must only take a few stations into account.

take for instance Leona lewis - happy ...it says it's had 538 plays in the last 30 days. but if you look at the airplay chart for the last 28 days it's had almost 5 thousands plays so that is way out [ but it's good for looking at the top stations

15 14 Leona Lewis - Happy 1348 plays
14 47 Leona Lewis Happy 1293 plays

47 25 Leona Lewis Happy 1123 plays
25 54 2 Leona Lewis Happy 1026 plays

CC they have down as 730 plays for the past 30 days but she as had over 3 thousand just for the past 7 days :o

1 1 Cheryl Cole Fight For This Love 3082 plays
