Now I wouldn't know Stacey Solomon from Chantelle Houghton or Rhydian Roberts. They are all simply names I know because other people whose articles and tweets I read watch them on various "reality" (ie - as contrived as possible) shows.

But I understand that she's recently "won" one of these things, and I did find it terribly depressing to turn on Five Live this morning to hear Max Clifford being asked what her future career held, and reeling off a long list of TV ads - "M&S, Iceland, basically all the stuff I did for Kerry Katona after she won it".

 

If any of these programmes took somebody obscure and gave them a fulfilling, self-directed career, I might just about see the point of them. Will Young springs to mind as a decent example, but I get the impression that the boy Cowell wasn't too impressed with Young's single-mindedness and aptitude and clamped down in subsequent series so that he was left with people he could control a bit better.

 

So we're left with a situation where the definition of "celebrity" now appears to encompass "didn't win previous freak show", and where Simon Cowell and Max Clifford control the lives and careers of dozens and the viewing habits of millions. Horrible.

 

Never was a truer word spoken. There's Cowell's puppets & then there's Will.

I noticed that too, I think Will can usually suss out people fairly quickly and the girl seems to have quite a penchant for posing with celebs etc.

Yep - bit of a celeb groupie.
