Sir Terry Wogan returns to Radio 2 this bank holiday weekend. He invites actress Samantha Womack in for a chat and Will Young performs.

 

Samantha Womack is best known for playing the role of Ronnie Branning in EastEnders from 2007 until the character's departure in 2011. She also appeared in the BBC sitcom Game On, and represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 1991. More recently, she appeared in Famous, Rich and in the Slums for Comic Relief, where she visited Kibera in Kenya, Africa's largest slum. This month she is currently appearing in South Pacific at the Barbican Theatre in London.

 

The British singer-songwriter and actor Will Young rose to fame in 2002 after winning the inaugural Pop Idol contest, making him the first winner of the now-worldwide franchise. Hiya, I'm just back home after a weekend away including yesterday of all things no access to the net or radio! :rolleyes:

 

All I managed to see was a single tweet from Will on my phone re: having a number 1 album and top 5 single bit nothing else would load on my phone. That's the last time I want to be in the Lakes when it's a big Will weekend!!!

 

The one good thing is catching up!

Hi Gill, yes, managed that as we had Internet access in Liverpool and we got back from the match hospitality in time. Well, I made sure of that!

 

We went over to Newby Bridge in the Lake district yesterday and was sunk and just couldn't get a connection. Talk about timing.

The 'Jealousy' singer has changed from a classic pop style to embrace a more synthesiser driven sound reminiscent of the 80s on his new album 'Echoes', and although it was "tricky", he was ready for the change.

 

He said: "The album refers back to the Pet Shop boys, Communards, that kind of very simple synth pop.

 

"Changing your sound is a tricky thing to do, but I think it's come about at the right time and from the right place. It's not a massive change, and it's very genuine."

 

Will, 32, has not done many tracks with other singers in his career so far, but is a fan of Gossip singer Beth Ditto and is disappointed he couldn't get her to appear on a planned track for 'Echoes'.

He added to website DigitalSpy: "There was actually one collaboration that was meant to happen on this album but didn't in the end.

 

"I'd love to do something with Beth Ditto - that would be so cool! Her EP is so amazing - very Madonna. I don't know why she didn't do a full album!"
